QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:15 AM) I hope Thome retires. Because if he does, that Twins offense takes a huge hit. They'll still have Young, Kubel, Mauer, Morneau, and Cuddyer, but what made the Twins offense so good last year was its lack of bad hitters. They had mediocre to very good hitters in every spot of that lineup. Alexi Casilla sucks and like you said, their bullpen is kind of in shambles. They also have to try and retain Pavano. After that great season of attendance, you'd think the Twins would spend some money. It appears they're trying to do the opposite. Thome officially said he wants to play 2 more years.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) I can't stand him. His steady stream of titanic-bloated homerism pieces make me want to barf. He makes SS2K5, Ranger and Hawk look pessimistic. Are you kidding me? He is employed by the White Sox!

Kenny indicates they will get creative at the trade front. I have a feeling there will be a trade or two before this team reports to camp.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Where's Gordon? List is without pre-arbitration guys. Gordon, Sale, Lilli, DeAza etc. -
White Sox now focus on bullpen.

Lol putting the Hudson debacle aside not quite sure how one forgets we have EDWIN JACKSON in the rotation. Offseason I guess

George Sherrill has agreed to deal w/Braves, pending physical. He'll get a $1.2 million, base. Bonuses could bring it to $1.4 mill - Jerry Crasnick

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) The most recent update on Peavy I can find on here is a few weeks old. What do we think about him? Do we have to go grab Freddy as insurance? Kenny smokescreen? I hear he was throwing a baseball today, as I posted in the White Sox catch-all thread. http://twitter.com/JakePeavy_44 http://www.facebook.com/JakePeavy44

White Sox could be top 5 payroll team in 2011
justBLAZE replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) I dont think you are that far off. Danks probably gets something like 5.5M, Pena 2.2M, Quentin 4.5M. Thats about $12.2M, add another $1.3M for out league min candidates. That puts us at 118.05M. If JR said team payroll for 2011 is going to be $120M than we dont have much to spend to solidify 3 bullpen spots. There is no way we can have a good bullpen with just 2M to spend there so either KW is going to have dump salary somewhere or JR will have to stretch payroll a bit. I reserve at least one bullpen spot for a guy out of the minors, heck, even if it's mop up duty, someones gotta do it. Infante would be my choice. That leaves you with 2 relievers to be acquired. -
White Sox could be top 5 payroll team in 2011
justBLAZE replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Danks - 3.45M, Pena - 1.2M, Quentin - 3.2M all due for raises. Can someone predict what kind of numbers we're looking at as far as their salaries in 2011? For argument sake I have all three making 11M in 2011. Morel, Sale and Beckham will make close to league minimum. Not much money there. probably around 1.5M. That gives you a payroll of 117M+ without spending anything on the bullpen! Feel free to correct my estimates. I have only basic knowledge on how this works. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) It started with Adam Dunn signing with the White Sox. And Pena signed before Paulie, I am willing to bet Derrek Lee will have a better season than Carlos Pena.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Alejandro De Aza, unless he gets hurt in ST. Or Lillibridge, he can technically play all positions besides 1B and C.

#Mariners and Jack Cust have agreed on a one-year contract, source says. - Jon Morosi

KW: #WhiteSox are NOT looking for a closer. He's happy with in-house candidates Thornton and Sale. - Brett Ballantini

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) Um, like, where has it been said that Matt Garza is available? Thread title should be changed. The only thing I saw is that Cubs are interested in trading for Garza.
-
Paulie said today that he hansn't received any 'heads up' on the Dunn signing and when he learned of it, he thought Dunn was brought in to replace him.

I'm probably biggest TCQ fan on this board but I would love if Quentin/Viciedo could bring us a top reliever/RF.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
justBLAZE replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
According to Oney Guillen, Jake Peavy was throwing a baseball today, which would be great news. -
There was some talk albeit I don't know how truthful about him having problems with perception, flyballs etc.

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) People keep mentioning CQ as a trade option and while I wouldn't be upset or anything if we moved him, exactly who plays in right if we move him? Filling a hole by creating another. If one of the RedSox/Yankees signs Carl Crawford they might be looking to get rid of Ellsbury/Gardner. Now without doing much research I realize these guys are not power hitters but they are capable of putting up some great numbers. Both of these guys could probably leadoff too and we move Pierre to 9th.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) I don't even know if I'd count Pena as part of the mix ATM considering he may very well be the 5th starter to open the season should Peavy not be ready. And even with him in the pen he's just a LR/spot starter. We've just really got three guys we can rely on right now. One thing I will say is that I'd MUCH rather overpay for Jenks on a 1-year deal ($6M to me would be overpaying) or Wood ($7M same thing) than give out 3/$10M to someone like Guerrier or Downs - assuming we could come up with the funds to do that. We should try if at all possible to push the guys we already have down further because we are talking about a guy who has only been pitching professionally for 2 seasons and another guy who just was drafted last June. From all the information I was able to gather from random tweets, blurs, interviews etc. Chris Sale will be going through spring as a starter because that is what the Sox ultimately see in him. However, pending Peavy's health he is in the bullpen and I think Peavy will be ready in April. Kenny was quoted today saying that Pena is moving from middle to back relief. Kenny also said he doesn't want to substract from the current major league roster but he will consider anything to make the team better. We now have a huge trading chip in Viciedo and Quentin has been the name rumored the most, as one to be traded this offseason.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) Everyone is drinking the coolaid. Where else was he going to go, folks? Don't get me wrong I said yesterday that I would offer Paulie 2/25, and I'm happy we got him for the next two years. The way I look at it, we got him for 6.5M in 2013 and the deferred money is Jerry's loyalty to a legend/captain of this team. I guess I will take it.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) At first you would be shocked the Sox gave Paulie 3 years. I love Paulie but this is an overpay, however if Carlos Pena can get $10 million after the year he had its a bargain. Guys at 670thescore + Cowley were raving how this is a 'hometown discount' pretty much and Paulie took great concessions to be back with the White Sox.

Sale Thornton Santos Pena In house options: Carter, Infante, Dolsi, Cofield, Harrell, Jones (Nathan), Marquez, Nunez. Can any of these guys break the camp with the team? If two of them do, then we are one signing away from a successful offseason. Players mentioned: Byrdak, Accardo. What's your idea for next year's bullpen?
