QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) Honestly with Putz and Gueirrer getting $4M a year I find it shocking the sox had no interest, or at least no reported interest in either, especially at that price. If the sox need pen help, and they do, what are the waiting for. Again dont let 4M get in the way of putting together a solid contender. I realize a lot of times GM's go around spreading bulls*** just to take away the attention from what they are doing, but Kenny already said they have NO money to spend. Ever think that, well, maybe it's true and they need to make a trade to be able to acquire those relievers?

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) I don't know why people keep coming up with these Juan Pierre trade scenarios. He's clearly not going anywhere. Guillen loves him, and unlike with guys like Quentin and Beckham, there has been no speculation whatsoever this offseason about him being moved. He has one year left on his current contract, and he'll serve out that year as the Sox' leftfielder and lead-off hitter. People like to play fantasy GM and come out with trade ideas all the time, most of the time they are simply ridiculous.

I hear Phillies have a deal in place that sends Blanton to Boston Red Sox, per Rosenthal, Heyman.

Haven't visited this thread in a while. I got around to watching UFC 124 and well.. I actually felt bad for Koscheck. GSP, class act.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Merkin didn't exactly write that they are encouraged by ticket sales. Here's what he said: Read between the lines, homie. -

Merkin just tweeted that Kenny is really excited by the ticket sales so far (after the Dunn and Paulie signings) and if it keeps on going this way it may free up enough cash to again explore the FA market. FWIW! -
I like how Jamie Buehrle was titled "Philanthropist" during that segment. Is that a title for "spending my husband's money"

QUOTE (since56 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 08:08 AM) Jones is not on the White Sox roster. If the Sox trade Quentin and start looking at free agent outfielders then does that put Manny back in the mix too? Manny who? Because I KNOW you wouldn't use the words Manny and outfielder in the same sentence talking about Ramirez. And yes, that topic changed direction but not necessary as Cowley reports Kenny is trying to move Quentin to get bullpen help.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) Good. Are people looking at him for RF? Or DH? Does anyone know what kind of market there could actually be for a butcher in the field who is injury prone? Hopefully we can get 2 really good relievers for Q. -

Not a surprise, but you beat me to it. Please no Teahen in RF. I'd take my chances with De Aza. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Cubs are going to try and get Garza for guys like Carpenter, Archer, etc. It would be funny if they got Garza, as it would give them two of the most unlikeable players ever in Zambrano and Garza. Wait, so it isn't just me who absolutely hates Matt Garza? It's only fitting he gets traded to the Cubs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 07:45 AM) All we're saying is that if you're going to hate on Juan Pierre, make sure your hate makes sense. Don't complain about his OBP and then 30 seconds later suggest having people with worse OBP leading off. Don't tell us how terrible his sabermetric stats are when he was worth $8 million in the fangraphs player value world last year. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) He must have been injured at the time these photos were taken. Or maybe he's not a part of the 2011 All-In White Sox. Beckham not in the picture also, wouldn't read too much into it. -
#Mariners agree to 2-yr, $7 million deal w Miguel Olivo. #Seattle - Morosi. PS. Merkin tweeted earlier Olivo was Sox main targen if AJ signed with Dodgers.

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) After all the arbitration stuff is done, baseball-reference is estimating a $120.3 million payroll: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CH...10-roster.shtml I don't know if they're counting Jenks there, they still have him listed at arb-3. Also no word about Linebrink and the 3.5 we're giving away. -

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Thought we were only paying 1.5m of Linebrink's salary? First report said 1.5 but later it was confirmed 3.5. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) I think what he was saying was that Gordon has already played more games in the MLB than Tim ever will. To argue over who will play more is silly at this popint as it looks like Gordon will be hanging around for a while. Sorry I'm late to my own party. Yes that is exactly what I meant earlier. All I know about Tim Beckham is that he was taken with #1 overall in 08, and we got Gordon. Some time last year I asked Adam Foster (projectprospect.com) about Tim Beckham vs. Gordon and he told me he doesn't think Tim Beckham will every play a significant role in the MLB. To be fair he wasn't very high on Gordon or Viciedo either. I'm just passing down the info from a much more knowledgeable guy than myself.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) I find Cowley quite entertaining. I have nothing against him. This, albeit I'd love to know what's his beef with the Tribune that he likes to tweet a lot about. Sometimes the guy can be a douche tho.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 08:42 AM) LHR Candidates Downs, Rhodes (probably too expensive, and have to surrender draft pick) Choate, Randy (Mauer and Morneau combined against) 1 for 7, 2B Hendrickson, Mark=0 for 3, can also start, but never been that impressed with him...more an NBA player Feliciano=too expensive and overworked, not familiar with AL, of course, AL not familiar with him either Takahashi=can also serve as a spot starter, pitched 122 innings last year, too expensive? Denys Reyes=always hell on the White Sox, obviously familiar with the Twins Byrdak=0 for 5 Ohman=1 for 6, BB JC Romero=1 for 8, 2B former Twin, steroids, killed the Sox from 2002-2004, coming off $4.25 million with Phils last year Beimel, Joe=1 for 4 Mahay, Ron=4 for 25 2 HR's (both Morneau), was on the Twins in 2010 so he has familiarity with them, $4 million last season, most experience by far against the M&M boys Preferred=Downs, Rhodes, Feliciano and Takahashi Most Likely=Choate, Reyes, Byrdak, Ohman, Beimel, Mahay Possibility=Romero, Hendrickson Great list, albeit pretty sure Denny Reyes signed with the Phillies earlier this week.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) That line made me smile. Yes sir, I really want Sale to be the closer this season and jump into the rotation in place of Mark/Edwin next year.

QUOTE (goldensox @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 06:40 AM) What's going on with cowley anyway? Is he leaving the whitesox beat? and who is replacing him? Seems like it, he's made some comment as he will no longer be the beat writer. No idea on the replacement.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) It'll be Brignac, but Beckham is their future. Good trade for the Rays. Ramos is a nice piece. Tim Beckham? Last time I heard on him, scouts were already saying Gordon play more MLB games Tim every will.
