  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) that's exactly what I'm saying. He did a similar exception for Buerhle when he went extra years. Hopefully PK will sign because if he doesn't I don't think JR will authorize the money for other pieces. I understand that he might be more lenient when it comes to certain players but that would make no sense with the other moves we just made. I think he gives Kenny a budget and the organization operates within that budget, if 1B position isn't going to cost a certain amount then I believe "the extra" money [or at least SOME of it] will be distributed on acquiring other pieces, all in an effort to field the best team come opening day.
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) If Konerko does indeed re-sign. Over/Under 120 hrs for our 3-6? 121 HR's between Dunn, Paulie, Rios and Quentin. So I take the over.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:33 AM) I think what some people are forgetting is that while JR will give PK 12-14 million, he will not give it to someone else. If PK does not take the contract there isn't 12-14 to spend on Lee + relievers. JR has a history of offering his own guys more money that he will not authorize to spend on others players. So if PK does not come back do not expect an equal amount of money to go to others. Are you telling me that if Jerry was willing to give 12M to Paulie and Paulie decided to go elsewhere he wouldn't let Kenny give the 12M to a 1B and let's say a quality reliever? 8M/4M ? Talking about next year of course.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) Nationals are going to offer a HUGE number to Cliff Lee. Probably something like 3 years, $10 million I don't get the sarcasm since everybody knows what they just gave to Werth.
  5. Wigginton, #rockies agree for 2 years, $7.5 mil confirmed. - Jon Heyman
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) Unless that person is "Chris Sale", that's an awful option. The starters at AAA are that weak. Maybe we can bring in Sale, and sign a stop gap in the bullpen until Peavy is ready and then move Sale there (which seems what the org wants to do in the first place). Moves are being made and we're hearing Sox are going all-in because they wanna capitalize on the rotation that we have. My feeling: if Kenny was really concerned about the rotation we would see a SP being signed. As of right now they are concentrating on the field/bullpen which makes me think rotation will be fine. Just basing this on the offseason so far. Hope I'm right.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:28 AM) Kevin Correia was pretty bad last year, pitched 145 innings, went 10-10 with a 5.40 ERA pitching in Petco, and he just got a 2 year, $8 million deal. Garcia's likely looking at 2+ years and >$12 million based on that scale. It has been awfully quiet about Freddy this offseason, I'm sure we can sign a 5th starter for decent money, heck worst case scenario we bring someone from the minors and hope our offense carries the team. I'm praying Peavy is healthy to start the season.
  8. QUOTE (since56 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) A little concerned here about the pitching. Bullpen and rotation. Rotation? Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Jackson, Peavy. If Peavy isn't healthy to start the year, we sign a temp fix. (Garcia)
  9. #rangers, focused on cliff lee, "not likely'' to get konerko. paul's friend says "no way'' on #orioles. #chisox in drivers seat - Jon Heyman What a great way to start the day.
  10. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) Didn't hear B&B today, but I heard KW say something very similar to that in an interview today... And the context I heard it in was KW explaining why he didn't want to talk about the problems between he and Ozzie. Could be two separate events. But the wording was pretty similar. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:08 PM) I literally have 0 clue what the context of it was, I just got that text from my buddy saying that's what he said to Rogers. Rogers asked Kenny if he is optimistic about relievers in the WSox organization, to which Kenny responded with what Rowand44 posted above.
  11. Kenny said they will wait extra for Paulie.
  12. Rogers said Putz is going to Arizona. See ya JJ.
  13. Kenny Williams met with Konerko's agent for 45 minutes today. They both talked parameters. But no offer yet. - Chuck Garfien
  14. Kenny Williams just said JJ Putz is going elsewhere. Not coming back. - Garfien
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) Who's the competition for the Sox here? As I have read, Diamondbacks are not really pursuing him and Baltimore is out of the question. The only other team I hear 'interested' Rangers, not sure how legit is that info.
  16. KW says he had initial conversation with PK's people. Will lead to more conversations. Not optimistic. Not pessimistic at this stage - Scott Reifert
  17. #WhiteSox are engaged in attempting to re-sign J.J. Putz. Not sure if they'll match #Diamondbacks' offer but they're making late try. - Phil Rogers
  18. Told by #WhiteSox person difficult for team to do Konerko AND Putz. Sox still need bullpen help. Plenty out there. #MLB - Rosenthal
  19. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) I'd wager that's what San Diego asked for as opposed to Sox offering. Cuz, that would be bad for filling out a roster. Heck, you don't make that trade unless you have Adrian signing an 8th year extension before hand.
  20. #mlb #whitesox #redsox The Chicago White Sox were runner-up in the Adrian Gonzalez derby, offering IF Gordon Beckham and prospects. - Nightangale
  21. It can't be done without some salary shedding/trade. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Chicago...o-return-120610
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Damnit. At least the Dbacks have a good 2nd RD pick. #3 in the 2nd RD I believe. Putz has also said playing for a team that has a chance to win will matter. Dbacks, not one of those.
  23. For those who said they would welcome Bobby Jenks back on a lot smaller deal, would you be confident with him closing? Ozzie has said if Bobby were to come back he would NOT be guaranteed the closer's job. EDIT: fixed
  24. Both Merkin and Reifort spinning stories how Kenny and Ozzie are 'rebuilding' their relationship. Ozzie has been quoted saying that last year was so bad, he didn't enjoy any of the wins, even the 25-5 run.
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Things are heating up wonder who plan B is? QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Interesting... Meh, Im sure Kenny's always had a plan B, you just got to in that type of situation.
