Bobby Jenks
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) I think he'd be very good, and heck, a move to closer might help his arm out. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) The issue with this is...what do we do with Ozzie's usual desire for 2 lefty setup men in the bullpen.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) Thornton's going to be the closer. How certain are you? I personally love Matt Thornton but I don't think he will be a good closer for the Sox.

Pretty sure Oney reads Soxtalk and he is responding to me with his last tweet

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) My guess is that the likely scenario is that Oney heard something, wanted to be first to report it, reported it, then I got yelled at, so then he said it was speculation. My thoughts exactly.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) I can't find Oney's tweet, can you send me a link. Also, do you really think he has any clue whether the Sox are about to sign a big name player? http://twitter.com/#!/Oneyguillen/stat...420281768153088 But his tweets are protected. Well his father is Ozzie Guillen so I would imagine he is pretty well informed. On the other hand kid I take everything he says with a grain of salt.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) I've been wondering if he's an option for the Sox. Not the biggest fan of his, but his value seems low enough to hopefully get a steal. For some reason the whole time I thought he is much older than he really is (27), he is linked with the BoSox also mentioned in the non-tender category.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) You gotta admit, even if you swap out DLee and substitute in someone like Viciedo, and even if you swap in Flowers for AJ, that's still a decent lineup, and it could well be a very good lineup. Morel for me is a question mark offensively, adding Flowers (read: another question mark) wouldn't make me comfortable going into the season.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) WTF? That's the silliest thing I've read today and I've been in the alphabet thread. "Rival exec can add." He probably means to say Konerko will sign elsewhere, without actually writing it. And I agree about Quentin as last year proved he has no business being in RF. Now if no moves are made there we can only hope his bat can cause enough damage, that his defense won't be talked about. If the Sox don't want him DH'ing, I still think he can be an average LF, but that leaves Pierre as the odd man out and we would have to find a RF to leadoff. EDIT: Found this while browsing Carlos' baseball-reference page - Sox | Not shopping Carlos Quentin: The Chicago White Sox continue to say that they are not shopping OF Carlos Quentin for a trade this offseason, according to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. However, teams that are kicking the tires on Quentin say that the White Sox are listening. The Philadelphia Phillies are unlikely trade partners because the White Sox would likely ask for OF Domonic Brown.

Rival exec says #WhiteSox can only afford two of three: Buehrle, Dunn, Konerko. #Chicago #MLB (Unless, of course, they increase payroll.) - Jon Morosi

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) Braves are going with a kid at 1B (Freeman maybe?), so why can't we give Viciedo a shot? Rays will probably plug Jennings into the outfield. 2 examples of contenders plugging kids into important positions this offseason. I'd take my chances with Viciedo or mabye Derek Lee at the right price if we get Dunn. Heck, it's all about improving, Lee or Viciedo + Dunn > Konerko + this Mark K. fellow and I'm talking offensively, albeit Derek Lee is no slouch with the glove.

Alexei opts out of 1.5 mil- Sox have a week to accept 2.5 op
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Apparently Ken Rosenthal doesn't think that highly of Alexei, or at least isn't in his top 7 SS in baseball. http://mlbbuzz.yardbarker.com/blog/mlbbuzz...8?new_post=true QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) WTF? When you include the fact that Alexei has been healthy and he has to qualify 3 of them, Alexei winds up 3rd on that list in my book. Rosenthal is a cool dude, after being reminded about his omissions by Rangers/Sox fans (including yours truly) via twitter, he added both Andurs and Ramirez to the list and then even managed to reply with the news.

Konerko thread
So that's the second time in the last 5 years Orioles make Paulie an offer. Last time he took the hometown discount and stayed with the White Sox for less. What happens now?

Alexei opts out of 1.5 mil- Sox have a week to accept 2.5 op
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) Arguably a top-5 offensive and defensive SS in baseball who is still young. Probably worth on the open market $10 million a year. Look at what Uribe got. Alexei is way better. Well, looking at how Tulo and Uribe cashed in, and what Reyes and the other Ramirez make, I would offer Alexei 3/15 next year and it might be low balling.
