White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

So who is this Logan Morrison kid that Jerry values so high? -
This in just after Kenny was quoted saying they are trying to figure out what to do and things might look the same (read no trades) after winter meetings. My point is, don't ever believe what the media are saying about Kenny and his job.

Matsui CAN still play LF, which doesn't make him offense-only however if this rumor is true he will be a DH, no one wants Matsui patrolling the OF.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) You'd prefer Sale starting & the Sox ace on the DL, than the ace in the rotation and Sale in the pen??? I was going to write the same thing. I understand that many here would love to see Sale as a starter with the hight draft pick he was, but this team is better with a healthy Jake Peavy and Sale than Sale in the rotation and a question mark in the bullpen.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) I don't think anyone can pinpoint his exact recovery date right now. However, if it better to be conservative and to expect there to be delays. It wouldn't take too many delays before you are talking about a late May comeback. Right now the Sox are smart to not expect/count on Peavy. Unfortunately that really hurts when you don't have any guys you can look to in the farm to help you until than. In retrospect it would be really nice to have Huddy. Yes, but then we wouldn't have Edwin Jackson. What's Freddy Garcia doing these days

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/11/...2011-on-the-dl/ Bluff but apparently Bruce Levine has a source that claims Peavy won't be ready until June, per JoeCoolMan in the catch-all thread.
-
I'd love Juan Pierre, Curtis Granderson and Alex Rios outfield, but to me we would have to find a masher for 1B, and have Quentin and Viciedo split DH duties while both of them could use occasional playing time one in RF and the other at 1B. Focus on bullpen and a stopgap 5th starter until Sale is ready in the minors. EDIT: Jason you pretty much beat me the punch with your second post.

Even though Peavy ahead of schedule, KW is not counting on him being ready come April. -
Anyone else think Dexter is just same s*** season after season, I loved the show but season 5 is just mediocre for me.. still watch it but meh.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Details aren't entirely official yet, but this certainly influences the catchers market. If Buck is getting between 5 and 6 million a year, the Sox would be foolish to not offer AJ arbitration. Not much harm in him accepting, and draft picks if he walks. Bruce Levine disagrees with you.

Not sure if you guys wanna branch it out to a separate thread but here is a story on Upton and BoSOX. Link.

Justin Upton is available and the Boston RedSox are first in line. per Jon Morosi

For all the people who hated that acquisition last year I'm surprised so many of you want him back. I consider Manny this year what Ken Griffey Jr was in 2008, an acquisition that was suppose to take us over the edge, help to get to playoffs. I don't see Kenny even thinking about bringing Manny back. IF we have a brutal offseason and a huge hole at DH come February then I'd consider it.

No thanks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) I came up with this one a while ago...the only way I judge the Jackson trade a success is if he picks up 2 playoff wins for the Sox. I said that in August of last year I think, and one playoff stretch has come and gone with him winless. If we don't make the playoffs, that means in part he wasn't good enough to carry us there, so in that case the trade is a failure, because then you have to start taking the money into account again. If we make the playoffs but he's not in the rotation, then the trade is a failure because he didn't pitch well enough. If he pitches in the playoffs and falls apart, then yeah we made the playoffs, but that's a lot of money and talent to give up for a guy to pull a Vazquez. If that trade is going to be a success, he needs to pitch well enough to push himself into a playoff rotation this year, to the point that he can pick up some wins and actually perform in the playofffs. Balta I can't agree here, he can win a darn Cy Young but if the team doesn't make the playoffs then the trade is a failure? There is too many factors involved to judge this trade on the proposed criteria. -
So Phillies hired Ryne Sandbarg to manage their AAA team.

Who is going to be our best starter next season?

QUOTE (since56 @ Nov 14, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Zack Grienke I see what you did there. -
To be fair he / Sox offense did a great job last year, as a team. Quentin and Beckham were the problems. Pierzynski shouldn't need a hitting coach to figure things out in this stage of his career.
-
He could make sense pending couple of things of course. For example he needs to prove he can still play at the 2008/2009 (pre ASB), IF Paulie wasn't to come back signing Dye to play 1B/DH (for a minimal contract) coupled with the money saved can get us Dunn to share 1B/DH duties wouldn't be a bad idea.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) This is very true, and from the sound of it, they're very concerned about his mental approach to the game. Between him and Quentin someone should have hired a sports psychologists long time ago.

This was already posted in the White Sox Catch-All, not trying to be an ass but sometimes it's not worth to make a whole new thread about something, check the Catch-All.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 01:34 AM) Has it officially been reported he's not coming back? I think we all agree it'll be tough(er) to be a Sox fan this season if he's on the team again. I personally would like to hear we don't want him or Jones back, though Jones at least hit a batch of bombs. He said it himself he has different plans than being on the Sox in 2011 (read: retiring)
-
I'd give it a try.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 11:36 PM) FNL is back and picks up as my favorite show on TV. I just started watching and almost done with season 1, great!
