QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) All the makings of another Arrieta no hitter today. He's destroyed Pitt in the past and the weather is awful. That's a solid jinx right there

Getting crushed by the bottom half of the lineup. That ball bouncing over the wall could save a run -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 12, 2016 -> 07:20 AM) I think Tampa Bay wins it all. Missing a top 5 player in the world, a top line defenseman, then your starting goalie and #2 center on the road. Of course they won game 1.

The mighty Yankees have Austin Romine serving as DH? Wow, $225 million just doesn't go far anymore, huh. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) Especially when you start looking at all of those $30 million seasons coming up. Not only do you have to pay the guy, but you'd also have to find guys to fill all of the holes you would create to get him. His contract is such an interesting one. $34 million is so much money, but it's always guys in their age 30+ season ready to decline. He is only 25, it's logical to expect him to improve his pace as one of the top players ever. But the Angels have yet to win a playoff game with him on the roster.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Big difference...Jordan gambled when he was the best player ever. People knock Manziel, not because he partied, but because he sucked and partied. Look at Gronk...he parties like crazy and people love him for it...why cause he's amazing on the field. Manziel also broke his girlfriend's eardrum. It's not just about partying.

Japan's olympics bid could have involved bribes
LittleHurt05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Of all the countries involved, Japan would be the least likely on the list, lol. That's probably why they got caught, it's not as ingrained in their system like Russia, Qatar, etc. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 12, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) I read what really eats into NFL attendance is fantasy football, which is supposedly also a reason the NFL's popularity vs. other sports. A huge amount of people want to watch multiple games at the same time. It's good for bars. That's why NFL teams have been upgrading their in-stadium WiFi and some offer little TVs at certain seats. The Bears offer season tickets holders free NFL RedZone on mobile phones so they can watch at the game.

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ May 12, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) Let's remember that the Blackhawks were in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals at this point last year as well. The transition to baseball season happened much earlier this year. The Hawks going deep into the playoffs and winning the Stanley Cup is a great thing for the city of Chicago, but it eats into the White Sox TV time and, almost certainly, attendance. And by the time the hockey ended, the White Sox were out of the playoff race so there wasn't much of a reason to start tuning in.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) All you have to do is look at Tiger Woods to know how much the media loves to eat one of these guys for lunch. True, but nobody even noticed until he had a major crazy public spectacle. Before that, he had random women left and right, not a soul cared or knew.

I go to Bears games for the people watching and stay for the football. At times, I definitely think about how it would be nice to watch at home (and more closely follow my gambling/fantasy action), but I just enjoy the atmosphere of sporting events.

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ May 12, 2016 -> 08:33 AM) I'm not much into football these days, but my fiancee is. I've taken her to some preseason games in the 200 level the last couple of years. Those are kind of relaxing and fun but I'd like to take her to a regular season game sometime since I'm always taking her to baseball/basketball games. From StubHub, looks like the game gainst Tennessee in late November is by far the most affordable (aside from Christmas Eve). I can get in for under $100, which seems unheard of from what I've seen in the past. Is the 400 level really bad? What if it's within the first 15 rows? Is it worth the upgrade to get into 300? I'd like to stay under $150 if possible. I may be a bit biased as a 400 level season ticker holder, but I think the views in the 400 level are fine. I started in row 34 and am in row 20 now. Of course the closer is better, but I don't think you HAVE to spend up if you are trying to stick to a budget. However, the biggest downside is that the only entrance/exit to the 400 level is at the bottom of the section. And the stairs are steep. So if you are in row 25, that means you have to go up 25 rows each and every time. If you plan on sitting in your seat most of the game, then it's not as big of a deal. But if you plan on making multiple food/beverage/potty trips, then it becomes a bit more annoying.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 11, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) St. Louis is so good right now. They're gonna win the f***ing Stanley Cup now, aren't they? A Predators -Blues conference final could be some ugly hockey.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) C. Trent Rosecrans @ctrent Bryan Price said Mesoraco had surgery today, damage was worse than anticipated. Recovery now at 6 mos. That's why players accept those "team-friendly" contracts. He had a breakout All-Star season, signed an extension with the Reds, will have played 39 total games in 2 seasons since then and who knows what the future holds. But he is financially set for life (if he doesn't screw it up)

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 11, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) So far they fall into the mediocre category, i wouldnt count that as a good win They are tough to figure out. +47 run differential, 2nd best in baseball, yet 17-16. I'd say their magic pixie dust is finally running it out, but they are being carried by guys named Aldemys Diaz and Jeremy Hazelbaker. Where they find these guys? No idea.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 11, 2016 -> 12:57 AM) Jewel had a clearance on beer today. Picked up 5 6 packs of craft beers for 5 each. Great deal. "Clearance" beer has usually been sitting the sun for a week straight. Good luck to you.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 11, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) The Padres lineup today is absolutely pathetic. They have like 2 legit MLB hitters out of 9 guys. No wonder the Cubs are steamrolling everyone. Half the NL is horrible and has a AAA talent level. I count 3 guys, and it's a doubleheader so 3 more MLB hitters are on the bench today. While I agree with your second point, they have smoked the Pirates, Cards, and Nationals too.

Ovi out performs Crosby but we know what the narrative will be. Two days, two game 7s, fun.
