CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
LittleHurt05 replied to cabiness42's topic in 2016 Season in Review
The news is covering the hell out of two first place teams playing at home tonight. This could be a crazy summer. Good timing by the Blackhawks to crap out early -
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Toronto really sucks in the playoffs. I'm fairly convinced that the Bulls could have beat them if they got the 7th seed. I don't watch much regular season NBA at all, but as I've started following in the playoffs, I'm just amazed that Toronto is a 2 seed. I realize the East is a lot weaker, but they suck.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) I couldn't ever see Dan Bernstein making a mean-spirited Freddie Gray joke like that though. When he gets called out for being insensitive and/or racist it's usually because he was being patronizing or belittling someone when he shouldn't be. His insensitive comments are usually reserved for women only.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) She did like youtube videos or something in California. The ebay Super Bowl auction definitely got her jobs though cuz she's not very interesting or original on the air. I just can't help but think how that looks to a young aspiring female sports journalist. This top ESPNW reporter got her big break from that eBay auction, kind of a catch 22 with all of the women's issues she fights for.

Was Sarah Spain a reporter before her Craigslist date stunt or was that the way she got her foot in the door of reporting?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) Let's go back to Roman times. Non-segragated, open bench-style washrooms where you're looking the other person in the eye while you drop a duece. Is that Wrigley Field???

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
LittleHurt05 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Of all hitters that struggled with the breaking ball low and away, Alfonso Soriano is the first one that comes to mind for me. He struck out every time they threw that pitch with 2 strikes. 412 home runs later, I'd say he still managed to have a pretty damn good career despite that. I wish Jose the same. -
LOL. Same old Capitals. Poor Ovi.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Toss him in, too. I'll manage without him. I can respect consistency. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:50 PM) Roll him up with the other cheater Manny and throw 'em in the trash with Bonds, Sosa, McGuire and all of the other cheatin' bums. And Melky? -
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 4, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) AL lineups are absolute death marches right now, I doubt the Mets, Nationals and Cubs would be boasting these all world staffs if they had to face this stretch of the Sox are in the midst of. Their numbers would be a little worse in the AL, but they would still be the most talented rotations in all of baseball, NL or not. Guys like Scherzer and Lester more than proved themselves in the AL.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) Sale, Quintana and Rodon...? Ha. I guess I was more looking at it from the Cubs' and Sox' perspective, so I didn't include them. But yeah, I've said it all along, this team has had the potential to win the World Series, it just hasn't been good enough to make the playoffs.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ May 4, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) The nationals or mets will take care of them. I do have to say that while the AL is deeper, I'd much rather be in the AL playoffs than the NL playoffs. The Cubs could face DeGrom/Thor/Harvey in a 5-game series, then have the Nats with Scherzer/Strasburg/Gio. And don't forget about Bumgarner & the Giants in an even year. The Dodgers aren't as good, but I bet they add another pitcher to Kershaw. There's no teams like that in the AL IMO. It's much tougher to make the playoffs in the AL, but fewer major land mines once you get to the random championship generator that is October baseball.

Were Danks and Peavy hunting buddies back in the day? Peavy might have some free time soon as well, he's been worse than Danks in the NL.

Who will be the 5th starter at the end of the season
LittleHurt05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 4, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) Mat Latos. That's my answer. Carson Fulmer will be the #4. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) Walk up sales don't happen much anymore. I forgot the number but a few years ago I think in 2012 there was a walk up IIRC under 2k, and they said it was the largest walk up of the season. The days of half priced Mondays and bring a Pepsi can for a half priced ticket are OVA! Most get their tickets in advance, and if you are going to go to 2 or 3 or 4 games at most, why would you choose a game where you could freeze your ass off? Until the good seats from the good weather games are sold, the April/May games are going to not be that well attended for the most part. Do they consider same day Internet Sales the same as walk up sales? It's the same thing nowadays, in the past you buy at the gate, today you purchase online a few hours earlier and print at home.

Rodon needs to have his control on point against a team like Boston that sees so many pitches. -

Pretty damn funny that the Blues gave that viral fan Tony tickets on the glass.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 3, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Jim Nill put together an offensive powerhouse, forgetting about the other 2 phases of hockey. Nobody must have told him that you can only play one goalie in net at a time, not two.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) 15,025 Tazawa had nine scoreless outings before tonight. Nice to return the favor to other teams after Albers lost his streak thanks to some shaky play behind him. What happened to all the Red Sox fans that used to invade the Cell? Those games would have minimum 30k. -

Hanigan is really struggling with this knuckle ball. -
Sucks that it came to this, but there was no choice, that injury turned him into a AAA pitcher. I think this is a sign that the Sox are "all-in" right now, they would have waited it out longer if not.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 3, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) He's a habitual liar, 'roider and has a monster contract. I really doubt that this is more than speculation. Melky Cabrera fits all three of those too. He didn't screw over a tester, but have we all forgotten about his fake website shenanigans?
