  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) You can not like the rule (and we know changes have to be made), but until it's changed, Gurley's the joke. They all know they can't sign stuff for money. Stupid mistake, wait a year and you'll have all the money you'll need at this point. How is Gurley the joke? This won't affect his draft stock, he will still get paid and is now less likely to get injured. I guess everyone is trying to hold on to their perfect dream of "amateurism", as fake as it is.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) At midseason, it wasn't outrageous to predict that Ned Yost would be fired It's not outrageous to think Ned Yost should be fired after the playoffs.
  3. 5 - hole Keith! Not the best first period, but good result.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) Word has it Gurley is suspended for taking money $400 for signing 80 items, lol. NCAA is a joke. Probably better for him though, less likely to get a major injury before the draft.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) It looks like Q wants Richards on the 3rd line: lines during morning skate: Sharp--Toews--Hossa, Saad--Shaw--Kane, Bickell--Richards--Smith, Morin--Kruger--Carcillo. That's so f***ing stupid. we spend 5 years looking for a 2nd line center, and now he's on the third line with talentless hacks. After all the bulls*** in the offseason, Kane & Richards are besties, living in the same building, blah blah blah.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Not including his release from Boston, the last 3 teams AJP left, the Giants, White Sox, and Rangers averaged 21 less wins the season after his departure. The Twins improved 2 games. Before this season, the last two teams AJP was on choked away playoff berths in September.
  7. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) Yeah the NFL would never ever approve of that because of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I wouldn't want to be the one calling the players union saying "Hey guys, we are gonna eliminate 53 roster spots, OK?"
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) LA has proved multiple times that they really dont care about the NFL. Most fair-weather sports town in the country. Just like Miami.
  9. Riddle me this fantasy geniuses: Reggie Wayne or Keenan Allen??? Leaning towards Wayne, but I think Allen is due for a breakout and has a great matchup, but the quick rout potential may limit their passing.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 10:53 PM) Hmm...this is a ploy to get us emailing our friends about Marqana!!! All publicity is good publicity
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 05:43 PM) He is actually an old SIU roommate of mine who in Carbondale was the perfect person to live with. He's always been weird as hell but he kept to himself and paid all his bills on time, no complaints whatsoever when we lived together down there. This is just so bizarre and crazy though but the good news is I'm already 3 months into a 12 month lease! Sounds like Miriam needs to start paying her share of the rent
  12. The Orioles had maybe 7 home-grown players on their ALDS roster.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) I just don't see Robin Ventura as one of even the top ten issues that our team needs to address. If Ned Yost can reach the ALCS, there is no reason why Robin can't.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) I have a hard time seeing the Yankees write him a $60 million check. Especially when they are this desperate for any offense
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) I think the committee will be heavily influenced by the rankings. I disagree, but if you are right, then everything they have said for the past 12 months has been 99.999999% bulls***. I think their first rankings are due to be released the last weekend of October, so we will see. They will also have said they will scrap all the old rankings and start from scratch each time. Time will tell.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 11:19 AM) I'm not saying what would necessarily be fair, I'm saying how I think the rankings will turn out. Right now MSU is #8 and OU is #11, and if ND loses to FSU they will fall behind both those teams. Baylor may fall behind ND after losing to OU, but maybe not. Generally with the 1-loss teams, the earlier in the season you lose, the higher you are ranked. That is why MSU is in prime position right now. It doesn't really matter how good they actually are. You do realize that these rankings don't matter whatsoever right? The committee will rank the teams on their own.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) OK, trying to find something to discuss aside from the next coach at Illinois. My projections for the playoffs/major bowls: Sugar Bowl/Playoff: #1 Florida State (13-0) vs. #4 Michigan State (12-1) Rose Bowl/Playoff: #2 Mississippi (12-1) vs. #3 Alabama (11-1) Cotton Bowl: #5 Oklahoma (11-1) vs. #8 Notre Dame (11-1) Orange Bowl: #6 Auburn (10-2) vs. Georgia Tech (10-3) [Orange Bowl is contractually obligated to take an ACC team] Fiesta Bowl: #7 Baylor (11-1) vs. #10 Oregon (11-2) Peach Bowl: #9 TCU (11-1) vs. #12 East Carolina (11-1) If Notre Dame goes 11-1, I don't see how Oklahoma, Baylor, and MSU would be higher than them. The Big 12 isn't that strong and both of those teams played nobody out of conference. MSU would be closer but their two best B1G wins would be home, guess it depends who they play in the conf championship. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) Well, I essentially predicted no losses for any of the top 10 teams except to each other, which we all know isn't how it will turn out, but I didn't want to pick specific upsets. I really just wanted to start some conversation aside from the last two pages on who should be Illinois' next coach. Baylor does play at Oklahoma, TCU has to play at Baylor and all three of them get Oklahoma State at home (what a s***ty draw for them) so all three going 11-1 is not out of the question. Somehow they all get Kansas State at home too.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) It's not a broad brush, it is literally every U of I fan I know. Missouri has a bunch of Cardinals fans so I'm not trying to throw stones, but I've never seen another fanbase so focused on the payoff aspect of things. Hey! What about me? QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) My favorite are the accusations against Bill Self at Kansas. He is playing dirty there, yet there is zero chance he played dirty at Illinois?
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) Is it wrong to think he was insanely dirty at both? Absolutely not. I have no idea who is/isn't or was/wasn't dirty, I just usually assume everyone cheats. It just cracks me up when fans love to point the finger, but act like the finger can never be pointed back at them. Any kid who chooses Kentucky can't say no to Cal's bags of money, but if a kid chooses a different school over Kentucky, is he the one non-greedy kid out of them all? Unlikely.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 08:53 AM) This is the Illini special. I don't see any group of fans have these types of comments of "offered more money" "got a better package" more than those fans. My favorite are the accusations against Bill Self at Kansas. He is playing dirty there, yet there is zero chance he played dirty at Illinois?
  21. I'm still amazed that Ned Yost was only the 2nd worst manager in these playoffs. The Dodgers' best hitter didn't get an at-bat in a one-run elimination game, but he did pinch run. Fireable offense on its own?
  22. 1. Orioles 2. Giants 43. Cardinals 44. Royals
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) Finally a Boardwalk Empire episode this season that wasn't boring or terrible. Good to hear. I'm one episode behind, but it's been 5 minutes of action and 55 minutes of boredom. The Nucky childhood scenes are killing me, I don't care anymore. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 12:26 AM) He was an actor that portrayed a reverend, not a reverend. Don't overreact. Wait, it wasn't a documentary??? No way!
  24. The actor who played Rev. Camden in 7th Heaven confessed to molesting several underage girls. Is there anyone we can trust in this world anymore?
