How depressing
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) Cameron's turnover that led to the first goal was awful, but Portugal also got very lucky with all the shots they dodged. Had the keeper completely out of the net and got one saved off a defender's knee. Or when Bradley kicked it at the defender on the goal line instead of the open net. That should have been a goal.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) That's how TV works... Yeah yeah yeah, I know how it works. Doesn't mean I can't complain! -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) Getting Kesler would be awesome, but I don't think that happens. They would have to trade young talent for him, and then you have to trade someone like Seabrook to free up salary cap room. Not impossible, but it seems a little far fetched. If I'm Vancouver, my asking price starts and ends with Brandon Saad and I just don't think the Hawks should give him up. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 12:00 AM) Time to piss off littlehurt: All Hawks home games (except for those being played on Sundays, or those that will be nationally televised) will begin at 7:30 p.m. this season, as opposed to the 7 p.m. starts that the team had in the 2013-14 campaign. Haha. The weeknight games I attend, I actually didn't like the 7:00 starts. I could use the extra half hour to get to the game or do something beforehand, especially coming from the burbs. And regular season games won't end past like 10:15 which isn't bad. But whoever decides on 8:30 CT playoff games can still go pound sand. -
There is a screen shot on Twitter yesterday of Bradley alone with the ball, 94:21 on the clock, just 39 seconds from victory if you just keep the ball away from Portugal and kick towards their end. Unbelievable they blew it, just a straight choke job. Luckily, they are still in a good position, but would have been nice to have clinched already and possibly avoided Belgium.

Outside of Petco Park, Richard's career ERA is 5.22. His upside is a borderline #5 starter. No thanks.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) A couple of starts ago, he had an ERA over 3. Maybe erratic isn't the right word, but he wasn't 1968 Gibson/Drysdale/McLain either. That was his 4th start of the season. In the last 6 starts he has given up 7 earned runs total with 58 K in 42 IP. First 3 starts he had 25 K in 20.2 IP giving up 4 earned runs. He has had one awful start surrounded by 9 starts of sheer dominance we rarely see nowadays.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) There's always stars from club play that do thrive, but we're talking about two of the best players in this generation in Messi and Ronaldo that haven't exactly fulfilled expectations in World Cup play. As TheTruth05 said, it probably has to do with their teams. Ronaldo and Messi play on two of the most stacked club teams in the world. Their club teams are definitely better than their national teams. Plus, when you're as big as Ronaldo and Messi and you're going to be the target for both your opposition and your home country. Ronaldo is in a less enviable position than Messi since Argentina has better talent surrounding Messi. So whatever goes wrong probably goes on your shoulders, especially if you don't play well. It's a bigger stage and there's a lot more pressure to perform. I really wish baseball could have something similar to the World Cup. The World Baseball Classic is a joke. It's clear that the guys who participate care more about their ML career than their home country. I feel like it's almost the exact opposite in the World Cup. Reminds me of Poland's great star Lewandowski. It's amazing how much better you play when surrounded by a superstar roster. Not as easy when surrounded by ten fellow Poles.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) @SouthSideSox: Seriously, Daniel Bard's line: 18 batters faced over two-thirds of an inning, 9 BB, 7 HBP, 175.50 ERA. Look at the bright side, he's unhittable! -
Weather looking iffy up north.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) Suarez has made a huge difference for Uruguay. Of all teams, you would think the English would be extra careful with Suarez

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 07:31 PM) f***ing Illinois Bastard. Never heard it til I went to IU. Apparently it's commonly used in Northwest Indiana, and to a lesser extent Southeastern Wisconsin. I've heard it used plenty of times throughout the state of Wisconsin. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) Nothing apparently. First day on the job and the game thread title lasted the whole game with a typo and was also improperly formatted. Good job, good effort new mods. There was a game today?

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) They weren't the power of 2 years ago. They won the Euro 2 years ago. Hard to believe they couldn't perform better, but after the Netherlands game they just seemed out of it against Chile. Chile was fine, but Spain really didn't put forth much effort or quality. Given how much National and club success most of those players had, have to wonder if they just got complacent.

Heading up to Sun Valley, Idaho in the morning, pretty stoked. It's not skiing season, but it's still great in the mountains, so much to do outdoors and it's a fun little town. Plus, I paid $45 for each roundtrip flight in December when Delta had a glitch on their website, so that's always nice.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Chile looks awesome. No wonder their fans broke into the stadium to see them. IMO this was always the Group of Death.

Wow, 2-0 Chile. The Spanish dynasty is almost finished

QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) I still don't get why pitchers are going inside to Jose, but play with fire and you get BURNED. Also, the saga of Conor Gillaspie: The Kid Who Only Hit Line Drives continues. Pitchers always did the same thing with Alfonso Soriano. Throw him a slider low and away, he will swing and miss EVERY time. Instead they try to sneak fastballs in there, boom home run.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) No need to hustle if you hit it over the fence. Exactly. Don't want him hurting that ankle running to first base anyway. Just hit home runs.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) Twitter rumors that Ronaldo's world cup is over. That would be huge. Very impressed with Australia so far.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) Kris Bryant @KrisBryant_23 11m Can't wait to join the @IowaCubs tomorrow! Thank you to @smokiesbaseball and all my teammates for so many great memories! It was expected they would promote him right after the AA All-Star Game. I still wonder if they will appease the fans in September with a call-up or keep him down to prevent his service time from starting.
