  1. His laziness helped contribute to one of the most amazing throws ever.
  2. Nate Silver's 538 calculates each teams's odds to advance from the group stage and stay alive in each knockout round. http://fivethirtyeight.com/interactives/world-cup/
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) yeah...the fans have been calling for Towers head out here now for a while. With Larussa in the picture now...it's just a matter of time. I'd kick the tires on Cahill. He's owed probably 3.5-4M for the rest of this season...but a gnarly 12M next year. I bet the Dbacks would eat a chunk of that. He's been crap this year...but even since he breakout year with the A's...his ERA hasn't been that awful bad. That being said...it all depends on how much the Dbags would eat. It sounds like they will hold on to him and send him to AAA to work on his problems., which he has said he will accept. (Assuming no team is dumb enough to take on his full salary)
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) 26.3% K rate for Bryant He's probably ready for AAA, but keeping him out of the majors at this point is justifiable, especially given that K rate.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) But they didn't. You really don't think it's human nature to try harder to impress new teammates, especially when you're going from one of the three worst teams in the majors (with perhaps the most negative attitude/mindset of any Sox team in recent memory, and the most mental mistakes) to one of the best franchises in recent MLB history? Fair enough. What do Rock Raines and bucket think about this specific question? There's no way I'm going to be convinced we would have won more games with Rios still around. We can look at their record before he left the team (.377) and afterwards (.417) and that's just as compelling as virtually identical OPS numbers. 1. You are comparing 114 games to 48 games. 2. Peavy was also traded, maybe getting rid of him from the clubhouse was the reason the Sox played better.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) Actually I mentioned it several times on the HFBoards surprisingly. 2OT games so far in this Cup finals so it hasnt been very close. Last night was actually the first time the kings had a lead during regulation. And they were outshot 32-15 yesterday, so it's not like they have dominated the Finals. But 2012 Quick has returned since the 3rd period of game 2, add in a little puck luck and they are on the doorstep of the Cup again.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) Watch Martinez's slowest home run trot ever? They dont respect the Sox at all, they think they are the baddest team around. As 3-time defending division champions currently in first place, I wouldn't expect any less from them until another team actually beats them.
  8. Damnit, just realized that I will be on a plane for the 2nd & 3rd US group matches. Oops.
  9. If the Sox didn't want to just dump salary, they wouldn't have traded Rios anyway.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) Kings are gonna sweep the Rangers. Sigh... what could have been.. Same Kings team that was outscored 13-5 in its first two playoff games and spotted San Jose a 3-0 series lead, crazy. But yeah, that game 7 loss keeps stinging a bit more thinking that the Hawks should have cruised in the Finals
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) Real good news for Chicago. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06...eed-70-million/ Makes it easier to swallow the Crawford/Bickell/Bollig deals, especially with the new contracts coming up for 19 & 88.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 07:24 AM) They really need to change how they put these groups together. Just make pots of 8 grouped by ranking and draw from each pot to make the groups. Who cares if teams from the same region play each other? Just rank the teams 1-32 (I used FIFA's rankings) then drop them into groups via S-curve just like the NCAA tournament. Then you can even move teams up and down a spot to keep teams from the same region together. Not too difficult. Here are eight new groups more evenly matched. 1. Spain 16. France 19. Mexico 32. Australia 2. Germany 15. Netherlands 21. Algeria 31. Korea 3. Brazil 13, USA 17. Croatia 30. Cameroon 4. Portugal 14. Chile 20. Bosnia 29. Japan 5. Argentina 12,. Greece 18. Russia 28. Nigeria 6. Switzerland 11. Belguim 23. Ecuador 27. Iran 7. Uruguay 10. England 24. Costa Rica 26. Ghana 8. Colombia 9. Italy 22. Ivory Coast 25. Honduras
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 04:52 AM) This. Getting every bounce it seems. Can't believe there was no call on the interference on Lundquist after the Hawks got called for it a few times this post season. Hats off. Need breaks to win a cup. That goal was exactly what I had in my mind when I made that post. That goal changed the game, had they called the interference I think the Rangers win. But like you said, every champion gets a few breaks, I know the Hawks did last year, you need to take advantage of them when they arise.
  14. Australia is so f***ed. They have 3 damn good teams in their group who may need to pad their goal differential to advance. They could lose each game 5-0.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) And then he said the bat slipped after the game. Man up. Just say you were frustrated, and acted like an idiot. He's just embarrassed that it was such a s***ty bat toss, he was aiming for the pitcher. I bet he gets a ten-game suspension, then appeals it down to five. What's the point of handing out suspensions if every single one is appealed and reduced in half?
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 09:33 AM) The Sox are soft, like their manager. All year I've been hearing about how much heart this team has, but now suddenly they are soft because the best hitter in the world hit a home run.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) I didn't disagree with letting him face Trout...at that point, Sale might have been the best shot to get him out. But then do you leave him in to face Pujols with that logic too? I guess it depends how the Trout at bat went down. If he popped him up on the first pitch keep him in. If it was a long at bat with Trout hitting it hard at someone, then maybe you take him out.
  18. Had Ventura brought in a reliever and Trout took him deep, this board would have melted down. "How dare you take out the best pitcher in the league! "
  19. f***. The KIngs are a hell of a hockey team, but it does seem like they have a major horseshoe stuck up their ass.
  20. Hockey OT ended at the perfect time. Dunn!!! Hide greg!!
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) It would have to have Watterson heavily involved. I wouldn't trust a studio to do it without him And he would never ever do it either. But one can dream
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) Bill Watterson has been secretly collaborating on a comic A live action Calvin & Hobbes would be the greatest thing in the history of entertainment.
  23. OT playoff hockey is such a different animal when your team is not involved. This is exciting and intense, but I can watch sitting down and my heart's not beating a million miles a minute. It would be nice if the Ranges could steal this game.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) Reus out for Germany. Ribery from France was ruled out too, these friendly warm ups keep adding up body counts. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Not sure why the US scheduled today's game to start at 6pm ET. The biggest sporting event of the day is a potential Triple Crown winner, and you schedule right against it? There's been nothing on worth watching so far this afternoon, should have started the game at 3 or 4pm ET. Because its horse racing. I go to Arlington all the time, yet I would never worry about scheduling against a horse race. And the Triple Crown potential just popped up a few weeks ago.
