  1. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:26 PM) If Samardjiza and impeding contract situation can get the Cubs a top 10 prospect in baseball at a premium position, I think Hahn has to at least be curious about what Q could fetch with his team friendly contract. What can you trade for that puts your rebuilding in a better position without Quintana? Two top 10 prospects? I think I'd still prefer the 25-year old proven starting pitcher with the team friendly contract until 2020.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) PK wishes he was in scottsdale on the golf course at this point. The farewell tour isnt even being acknowledged by anyone. We all could have told him it would be like that. He will always go down as a legend on the South Side, but outside of here he's not remembered my many.
  3. "The Blackhawks are still losing money every year." What about the all the liquor sales at the UC that go directly to Wirtz Beverage Corp? Um. Um. Um.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) Nieto every day would be worse than Flowers at this time. Maybe in a year or two, but right now he would get eaten alive. Let's try the Phegley experiment again? Keep Nieto as the backup and let Josh take his hacks again.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) One of the more unlikely dominating starts in a while for the Sox. If it wasn't for that skinny bum Sale, it would be the 4th straight scoreless start from the Sox rotation
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) FANTASTIC outing by Scotty. 1 hit allowed in 6.2 To do that at Fenway, just incredible for him, probably questioned whether he'd ever see the majors a few months ago. Way to go!
  7. This Scott Carroll fella is really costing me some money in my daily fantasy leagues.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) Lackey complained about Nelson Cruz after Cruz destroyed him on Saturday night. Showalter responded by saying Lackey better be sure his own team is clean before bashing others. I like this Showalter guy. I hope he sticks around the majors for a long time
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) How can anybody dispute the Golden Rule being a bad thing? I don't even know what the Golden Rule is, I was just disagreeing that religion is somehow the key to stopping violence, when thousands of years of history have shown otherwise.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) I just stated AGAIN that it is a matter of negative s*** being the norm and cool and being accepted and anything positive like religion merely mocked. The basic tenets of religion - the Golden Rule - are ASSETS to society. Yet any mention of religion is scoffed at, mocked. Any mention of violence? Bring it on. I'd imagine the people of northern Nigeria wholeheartedly disagree with that statement.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) This is getting ridiculous. A woman can't even walk on her porch in the once great city of Chicago without having to LEAVE THIS WORLD after getting killed. The American dream is going going, close to being GONE. WTF is going on, Chicago??? Get your act together. All these killings in one weekend? What the f***???? You guys will jump me for this, but this is all about society. We can have violent movie after violent movie that shows murder, torture, and everything is cool. Hey ,there's nothing wrong with art, freedom of expression. Boom, let's watch some good ol fashioned killing. The more the merrier in the movies. But somebody talks about God or religion and the world jumps down their throats. How dare you talk about God. He doesn't exist. He's the same as the invisible boogeyman. There is no God. Quit shoving him down our throats! How dare you talk about gun control and keeping guns off the streets!! We need those guns!!! Everything is out of whack and God help us all. I mean that poor woman is living her life and at 66 is on her porch and boom, she's dead. Why? No reason. Somebody had a gun and was shooting it. Nobody cares, so why should I? Sickening. http://gawker.com/horror-in-chicago-as-82-...h-of-1601170588 So the reason that poor African-American neighborhoods have seen an influx of violence is because the kids sit around and watch violent movies all day and because there are zero churches or religious figures in those neighborhoods. Gotcha.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) Yes, but the pick has no protection with regards to carrying over to the next year if they don't sign the player. So they would probably want to avoid Boras clients the next time around? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) So essentially we're just like the Cubs then....maybe 2017, maybe 2018, maybe never. Not to mention the fact that they would almost be FORCED to draft collegiate players with those two high draft picks, because they'd have lost another year of Abreu and Sale in their primes. Which would make that draft even more high risk for the Sox. Yes, it's not to ideal to lose Rodon given the team's current situation. Just saying that it makes it a little easier to handle if he just wants to be a hard ass and hold out.
  13. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) The Sox are rebuilding anyway, Rodon's future is no lock and the Sox get compensated with #4 pick next year. Rodon, if he doesn't sign due to money issues, has to try and build his value even more and as a senior no less. If Rodon goes back for his senior year he will have even less leverage than he does now. I'd call his/boras bluff. Yup. The #3 pick should not get as high of a bonus as the #1/#2 picks. That's how it works? So potentially could have two top 10 picks next year?? That makes me a little less worried.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) I'll never understand why (non-drunk) people at national chain pizza places. I'd rather have a DiGiornos pizza than Pizza Hut, Papa Johns etc. Sober people college used to order pizza from Gumby's. WTF? Pokey sticks or nothing from that craphole.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:51 AM) That's the thing I don't understand. What's the Cubs' ultimate end game here? Is it "acquire ALL the prospects?" They seem to be collecting talent with no real direction moving forward. I don't understand what they're shooting for. The consensus seems to be that once these guys are ready to play, they will have traded a few for some pitching and then will open the pocketbooks for the rest of their arms. Problem is, when you pay top dollar for a FA pitcher, that can be a crapshoot and is only a good idea for a year or two. Plus, with their attendance plummeting and the Ricketts crying poor, how much money will they actually have to spend?
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) California Pizza Kitchen was one of the worst pizzas I have had. I was so disappointed after we left there I know this is "anti-Chicago", but I'm a fan of CPK. Obviously it's completely different than a normal pizza, but I still find it tasty. The BBQ chicken pizza is aweosme.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) Weird situation with Samardzija. Named All-Star, can't compete for NL and ineligible to be placed on AL roster. He can still participate in all the All-Star Weekend activities though. I think they should let him pitch for the NL, see if he tries for the sake of competition or purposely blows it to help give the AL home field advantage.
  18. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) FIFA got South Korea into the semis. I remember there being a lot of controversy but a few weeks ago I watched a youtube video showing how dirty they were and its ridiculous. Total BS how they got past Spain and Italy. Between the cheap shots and refs taking goals away from Italy and Spain, it was disgusting. Interesting, I don't remember that, but I'll have to try to look that up. That does prove my point though, the best chance for a non UEFA/CONEMBOL team to win it all is when they host it, whether it be due to the fan support or ref support.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) Poll question: When do you think the US will first win the World Cup: A) 2018-2022 B) 2026-2034 C) 2038-2046 D) 2050 or later (entire team not born yet) Bonus poll question: Yes or no, the US will be the first team outside of UEFA and CONMEBOL to win. I gotta say 2050 or later. That's not even ten tournaments. The best teams will be happy to win one or two. Given the talent gap I saw in the last two games, hard to see the US winning four straight elimination games after advancing from the group. It's hard for some of the top teams. For the bonus question, I need to see a list of the future hosts, cause that's when I think it's most likely a team makes a Cinderella run. If Mexico were to ever host again, they could possibly win it then. Maybe Japan? South Korea made the semifinals at home.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:59 PM) Since his hit tool is deteriorating, and he has been hitting like hot garbage, if we could trade him for a bag of balls, there would be a lot of volunteers willing to drive him to the airport. Ha. Well done.
  21. Nice job Conor. I picked a good time to wake up my from nap
  22. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:47 PM) I think the Cubs scouting department has earned some trust in terms of their evaluation of players, and Theo/Jed in terms of player procurement The Edwin Jackson deal is solid. I get what you are saying, but when it comes time to compete you can't depend on finding a diamond in the rough.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) If I trade Tank, I want to feel like it's a trade I will definitely not lose. Not just a deal where you walk away saying "well it's better than just giving him away!" but a deal where you feel okay if he really puts it together in a different environment I agree. In the back of my mind there is always the belief he can hit 40 homers, if he does it somewhere else that would suck
