The deification of professionals being paid millions to play a game is very amusing. Appreciating a player's accomplishments and disliking that player are not mutually exclusive.

Gavin Floyd to DL - Out 14-19 months for TJ Surgery
LittleHurt05 replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 10:54 AM) You pretty much know by now what you'll get from Floyd over the course of the season. If the Sox aren't going to be in contention, I have no problem seeing what Santiago can give you as a starter for a full year. If you are out of contention, I absolutely agree. But for a contending team, there is nothing wrong with having Gavin towards the middle or back of your rotation. Over the past 5 seasons, he averaged 190 IP, with around a 4.12 ERA. I'd love to see how many starters in the AL could say that over the same time frame, I'm sure it's not a lot. Yet Sox fans seem to think he is Danny Wright. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 2, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) crazytown. floyd is a good pitcher. i don't know why our fanbase hates him so much. People seem to think that 30-start, 4.00-4.25 ERA (in the AL) starters grow on trees or something. -
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 2, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) Why does everyone have to be a great guy? Whatever great guy means. I would imagine that half the players in baseball are not great guys, but jerks by most standards. Who gives a s***? AJ was awesome and loved by most sox fans, and now that we get to bean him it's hilarious, like tripping your best friend in front of a girl he likes. I wish more people were like AJ and didn't care about hurting someone's feelings so much. I'm all for being nice, but people are too sensitive these days. If that makes me a "meathead" fan, I'll take that over half the nerds on this site that have never played a game in their life.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) You heard about it a lot with Peavy's last deal. That's honestly the first time I had ever heard about it. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) Yes, we know all about the Royals and 2003. That was a quite different team than the one they've assembled this year. The other problem is there's probably some statistic like no White Sox team trailing by 6-7-8 games on some random day in the first two weeks May has ever come back to make the playoffs with the exception of 1983. Considering that only 6 White Sox teams have made the playoffs in the last 93 years, it's not surprising that only one of them came back from such a deficit.

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:42 AM) If he is on the DL for any length of time, insurance will cover most of the money. You never hear about insurance covering players' salary. If teams do recoup some of that salary, they sure as hell don't let their fanbase know as much, they prefer to play the "Woe is us" card. -
Sox are undefeated in May

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) Chris "Mac daddy" Kelly, 34. Damn, I just saw a VH-1 "One-hit wonders of the 90s" show a few weeks ago, he was looking OK.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 1, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) Damn, who gave up 8 runs to the Marlins? The Twins AND the Nationals

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 1, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) Uribe, Everett, AJ, Rowand, Contreras, El Duque... these were the heart and soul of a winning baseball team. These players were winners, brought a championship to this miserable city and there are a great many "Sox fans" who ridiculed these players and were happy when they left. It's people like you that keep the 85 Bears relevant in this city.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) Or you have to wait 3 hours for the game to end to watch the Americans finale. Such a great show. I 'm still an episode or two behind, life with an infant.

This board is always so much quieter when the Tigers lose and the Sox win.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 1, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) This is going to need its own thread. Meatheads enjoyed it for what reason? Meatheads disliked it for what reason? Did you observe the Reed/AJP relationship in the clubhouse? Maybe there is a legit reason?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 1, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) It was probably unintentional, but that would be typical nonsensical Sox baseball if Reed did try to hit him. All the guys our pitchers HAVEN'T hit in the past and plunking a great Sox legend like AJ. That would be dumb. Maybe the great Sox legend wasn't very liked in the clubhouse? -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 1, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) Take some balls from Reed to peg a Sox legend. Good for Addison, I respect him for that. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) I think there is something wrong with my TV. It keeps showing the Islanders & the Maple Leafs playing playoff games. And they are definitely playing like they haven't been there in a long time. -

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ May 1, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) should have built a roof over Kaufmann Stadium!! - Anibal Sanchez threw 115 pitches today (40ish in the first inning). he threw 122 in his last start. During the Twins series, all the starters went over 110 (Scherzer 115, Verlander 114). Seems early for Leyland to let his starters throw so much, but I guess with that leaky bullpen you do what you gotta do. welcome to the Jim Leyland school of managing. Dusty Baker was a student.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 1, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) Cedric Benson wasn't a bad pick. He was just a moron who, after getting a vote of confidence from his organization regarding a previous DUI, proceeded to get another DUI. Then he had a few pretty good years with Cinci. David Terrell was a bad pick. After getting paid, Benson thought he could be the man in the NFL with little to no effort. After the DUIs and getting cut, he realized it's not that easy. He showed up to Cincy and actually tried and had some success. I was in Austin the weekend he got his second DUI. He was on our flight home to Chicago, not looking very spry, in coach.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:33 AM) Gio's been pretty bad since he faced us. Roids speculation in winter, now this. And Strasburg's elbow hurts. I hope the Nationals crash & burn.
