QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 08:32 AM) Not sure if you knew this, but Alexei Ramirez gained like 50 pounds and now looks terrible in a 2 piece. And he was discovered to be a love child of Fidel Castro & Jackie Kennedy Onasssis.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 07:51 AM) Well there you have the formula for beating them. I'll add that to the list of keys to beating Indiana: 1. Limit fast break points 2. Play them outside of Bloomington 3. Put on Wisconsin jerseys -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 07:53 AM) One of my favorite lines in Moneyball, paraphrased, talks about how a kid might grow into power, after all, Giambi did it. The bigger a player gets, the more careful a pitcher is to not throw meatballs down the plate, the higher the OBP goes. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) You have to watch games like tonight, if nothing else you give yourself the opportunity to see something crazy. Well for 37 minutes it was the same painful action, but I guess miracles do happen. I saw online they were double digits late in the 2nd and forgot about the game. Then the Blackhawks pre-game host said the party is on in Champaign as the Illini upset Indiana. I looked at my wife and yelled "Holy f***, did you just hear that?!" -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) Pulling this out of the NFL thread. Kane isn't Kaner so far this year, and he's be on fire so far. Hmmmmmmmmmmm Sober Kaner putting on a clinic in Phoenix -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) Supposed to become quite the blizzard for the Northeast. I of course, am flying to New York on Sunday. Maybe not?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) This joke would be funny if Mike Illitch didn't have made cheddar and clearly enjoy spending it on his professional sports franchises. To be fair, Illitch may die any day now.

Awesome, glad to hear the Mariners were able to keep him. It's always dangerous to give a starter that much money, but his past makes him as good a bet as any.

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) Still, though, I'd advise against buying her that strap-on for Valentine's Day, vindictive or not... Maybe he's in to that kind of stuff?

Indiana (-7) @ Illinois That might be the easiest bet of the year. I assume it's a typo and suppose to say -17. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) For all of you guys: 247 Sports has a pretty cool team rankings feature where it takes the average rankings of the 4 major sites (Rivals, 247, ESPN, Scout) to get an overall idea of where the industry as a whole has your team ranked: http://247sports.com/Season/2013-Football/...iteTeamRankings 11 of the top 25 classes are in the SEC. Some of those coaches are gonna have a fun time explaining their under .500 conference record with a top 25 recruiting class. -

First meeting with Raffi tonight since the Hossa hit. I wonder if they will send Bolling after him or just let it be. Major retribution doesn't seem to be Q's style. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 11:31 PM) I am on probation with my girlfriend for whoever cared to know what happened. Keeping my mouth shut would have certainly been the path of least resistance but I'm glad I came clean. I actually read witesoxfan's post about the benefits to nipping it at the bud. For those who have never seen a 1% chance hit, well here it is. Thanks for the advice all. Good night! A get out of jail free card? You lucky bastard!

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 11:57 PM) I saw the line at 18.5 and 19.5, wonder how that stacks up. Edit: Here you go... According to SC: TCU had a 4.5% chance of winning according to the BPI game predictor. Ranks entering game Kansas 6th, TCU 246th. Larger gap in BPI than any of 1 vs 16 matchups in 2012 Men's basketball championship. So essentially there's your 1/16 upset. According to Pomeroy, TCU has played four teams ranked 300 or lower. They beat all four by a combined 13 points. I think they may be worse than your average 16 seed. With the one-year waiting rule for the NBA, we aren't far away from an official 16 over 1 upset in the tourney. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) (This isn't actually why they're losing money. They're losing money because Congress passed a law a few years ago requiring them to pre-fund their pension plan out to 75 years by 2016, something that I'm pretty sure no one has to do anywhere. Without that enormous pension pre-funding, the USPS would actually be operating at a profit right now, despite being required to maintain saturday delivery and maintaining unprofitable post offices throughout the country in rural areas). And would a private company have such a pension plan?
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) This is pretty common in small towns. My town is about 1000 people and we don't have mail delivery. We have to go to the PO every day to get our mail. The nice thing is that first class is required to be in the box by 9:00 AM. Yeah, that's the same way it works in Idaho where my wife used to live. Anytime we try to send cards out there, it's always a PO Box.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) No, I'm saying that if the USPS were a private company, it would make no sense to have delivery outside of population centers. The USPS is required by law to deliver to everyone. If they were a private company and able to make that decision, then people in rural areas would receive mail rarely, once every few weeks, if at all. Fedex and UPS don't even try to serve a lot of those areas, they just contract with the USPS since the USPS is going there anyway. Gotcha. I wasn't necessarily proposing the privatization of USPS. All things considered, they do a pretty good job IMO with the regular mail. I was inferring that a private company would have realized they were hemorrhaging money due to a non-essential service years ago, and would have stopped the bleeding much quicker.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) It also wouldn't deliver to 20% of the population of the country. Does that 20% of the population only accept mail on Saturdays?
-
What a joke that it took this long. If the USPS was a private company, this would have happened years ago.
