Yeah, I remember the Wolfe incident. Was so pumped for the game until I got there and heard about it. Ray was good friends with him but that really pissed him off. Ray was also good friends with Turner the Burner and still talks to him to this day. Great guy, too. BTW- college gameday was in BG that game, too. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) Ha I am perfectly relaxed, trust me my posts ALWAYS make me look more angry than I am. I am proud of the, they gave Tennessee a great game on the road with a half game of 2nd string quarterback and a half game of 3rd string quarterback. They play hard, it's just frusterating to see your team lose a lot of close games. As for English, he had 2 and a half sacks and a forced fumble tonight. He's right on pace for a typical Larry English season, although I have NO IDEA where he'll be drafted to be honest with you. And yes, I remember Ray Smith. He was a very solid safety who hit hard. Wore #48 I believe, and he is from NW Indiana right? We had quite a few good players from NW Indiana in those days and he was one of them. True. Kiper says middle-3rd to early-4th. Yes, he was from St. John/Schererville/Dyer. Yes, 48. Awesome kid. Went with his parents to Central Florida where he picked one off for a TD. Went to Bowling Green when they were ranked 11th or something, and they lost, which was tough. Also went to the Toledo game in DeKalb his senior year which decided either the Motor City Bowl or some other crappy one and they lost, so that was bad, too. -

I'm following the gamethread on NSBB and they are too funny. "What a waste of money." (implying Soriano's suckage) "Only 6 more years of him." (again) "We'll get 'em tomorrow!" "Fontenot is the only guy I don't hate on the team." "I need to soothe the pain- I'm going to move 6000 miles away from Chicago." -

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) For the first time, I'm starting to actually feel sorry for Cubs fans. This is terrible. I especially feel bad for my brother who probably spent $1000 to see this garbage live. Okay, so I feel bad for your brother. I don't feel bad for other fans, though. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) NIU loses 13-9 at Tennessee. This team is very frusterating, it could easily be argued they outplayed all 5 of their opponents so far, and they are 2-3 with 2 blowout wins and 3 close losses. The Huskies were once again without their starting QB tonight and the backup was injured in the 2nd quarter to never return, but the Huskies still could have certainly won this game had they taken advantage of their opportunites. If Harnish (our starter) had played, we probably win anyways, but we have nobody to blame but ourselves because we could have won anyways had we done what we should have. Coach Kill has us heading in the right direction and we'll be a very good program in the near future, but it sucks right now. You honestly need to relax. Despite Tennessee being awful this year, NIU (a medicore team) went there, an SEC school at night, and almost pulled one out. If I were you, I'd be proud as hell of the Huskies. Since you're a big fan, how's Larry English doing this year? With the Bears lack of pass rush from their DEs this year, I'd love to have him in the 3rd or 4th round. Side note: My friend played for NIU and he was the captain of the defense (I believe 2005 or 2006 was his last year)- his name was Ray Smith and he was a safety. -

When you think about how sh*tty it's been trying to watch the Sox this year with how inconsistent our offense was, just put yourself in a Cubs fan's shoes and think about how sh*tty they've been for 101 years, now. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) I am going to guess you mean you think he ends up in Detroit? At least that is where I think he might end up, and if so bring it on because as Kalapse said, whoever signs him will regret it in the not too distant future. I think that as well. Around July, many people thought it was St. Louis or Atlanta. To me, I think he ends up in Detroit, and I wouldn't doubt it if CC landed in Detroit, too. Then again, if Sabathia is really looking for a good place for his child(ren) to grow up, then he won't even think about Detroit. -
Sox @ Cubs in 2005 when Patterson dove for that ball in CF when he didn't have to, he dropped it which gave the Sox the 4-3 lead, then Dye hit a solo HR in the 8th or 9th to cap it off. Tigers @ Sox this year when we went down 8-6 in the 14th and Swisher walked us off, off of Zumaya. Cubs @ Sox in 2003 (I believe) when Valentien hit that walk-off off of Alfonsucko. Royals @ Sox this year when PK hit a walk-off in the 14th. Twins @ Sox- Black Tuesday. Angels @ Sox- game 2 of the ALCS.

Like someone said, K-Rod is losing movement on his slider and velocity on his heater. Yet still, he's going to get around $13 a year this offseason for 3 or 4 years... -

Any way we land Teixeira in the offseason? There's 2 reasons I say we have no chance: 1. Despite playing well at the end of the year, we'd never trade Konerko. 2. Reinsdorf won't pony up $180-200 million over 7 or 8 years (that's been reported as to what Teixeira is looking for). -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) their best clutch player this year (maybe 2nd behind Alexei) Quentin- I was implying not only was he the MVP, but our best clutch player (or 2nd behind Alexei). -
I sat in 531, last row for the 2nd game of the 2005 ALCS and they were great, so Tony, I don't think 2 or 3 sections to the left and about 24 rows lower will be bad seats.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) You need to work on your math skills, along with your baseball IQ. Adam Dunn had 517 AB's this year, with 122 Hits. If he got 20 more soft, looping singles, that would bring his total up to 142 Hits. 142 hits over 517 AB's gives you a .275 batting average for the season. I didn't bother to look up how many hits and ABs he had, so this really has nothing to do with my baseball IQ, but my math. So yes, then he would be a great hitter, because 40 HR and a .275 BA probably puts his OBP about 20-30 points higher, which makes him an even better offensive player. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) So basically, what it comes down to in your world, is if Adam Dunn added 20 soft singles to his 2008 season, he would be a great hitter? Well no, because 20 soft (or hard) hit singles would only bring his BA up to about .240. I said .265-.280. I just don't think that is too much to ask for from a professional player. -

QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) Semantics. Dunn doesn't hit for average, but he does everything else. Add in hitting for average, and you start talking a hall of fame caliber player. That's an awfully high benchmark. So, based on that, do you think a player who ONLY hits for average is better, or something? You really aren't making any sense. Of course I am. A guy who hits 40 HR, 75% of his hits are XBH, and has a great OBP is a great offensive player. But getting a hit 23% of the time isn't exactly a great hitter. And no, you don't have to hit for great average in my world and mix in 30 HR to be a great offensive player, but I don't think hitting .265-.280 is too much to ask for especially with someone who can hit a baseball 430 feet. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) Mora and Roberts are the O's two most popular players to their fans (Markakis is coming on) and Angelos doesn't allow his fan favorites to get traded, period. I'd love having both on the Sox, they are GREAT fits, but it's not going to happen. With Jones and Markakis, they are okay for the future in terms of offense. I think Roberts is in his 30's somewhere and they won't be winning anytime soon. If they can trade him for a young, good looking SP and an already good, MLB proven, young SP I think they'd do it. Angelos may not want to trade popular players, but I think he would if it meant building a powerhouse in the future. -

QUOTE (CQMVP @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) Who, on the White Sox roster, has even AVERAGE speed? Nevermind GOOD speed. We have noone with good speed, compared to everyone else in the MLB. Alexei Ramirez.....Orlando Cabrera....maybe Swisher? If Swisher has good speed, I haven't seen it. I heard so much about his passion for baseball and the way he hustles, and I didn't see it this year. Hopefully he hits .250 with his normal .350-.365 OBP next year.
