Hahn doesn't believe they have to pay a "suck" tax. But the Padres really didn't have to either so whatever. They just paid the guy what he wanted. I said it earlier but they have to stop only making deals they feel comfortable with. They're so risk averse which I understand but when you're in the territory of making deals with star players they should be a little more open to what the player wants considering the circumstances. With this offseason they thought they would be able to get away with it considering the lack of suitors and it blew up in their faces. In the following offseasons they're going to need to take the risks they're so scared of with more competition. Otherwise they should just stop being in on free agents and stop talking about spending.

I agree with this. The White Sox needs to be comfortable with market value and not get all cutesy with contracts. They're not in a position to demand a player agree with their perfect terms.

I honestly don't think Dave knows much anymore. Not saying that because I want Harper on the Sox. I just don't think anyone would trust him enough to tell him anything of value.

I think the worst part of missing out on both guys is if they miss the playoffs the next few years (mainly looking at 21-23) due to the offense sucking, fans will be able to point to this offseason as the fuck up. Especially if the Padres/Phillies make it and go deep.

I honestly thing in their (JR's) heads they think they have as much brand value as the Cubs, Yankees and Red Sox. Its unfathomable to me that they look at the roster and team and the empty stands and think players would be chomping at the bit to play for them. They go into these meetings and players are courteous to them saying they understand what they want to do or are building here and their takeaway from that is "Oh they want to play here so we can give them less." It's the nice guy equivalent of "Oh I'm being nice to them so I deserve sex."

And that the organization is so prestigious, the same organization that national media doesn't give a single fuck about, that superstar players will buy into them and take less to play here. As much as they want to believe it, they are not the fucking Cubs.

For real. It's not the reps fault. They're just doing their job. I wrote a letter to my rep basically saying I can't continue to support the org after this and let her know that this will be my last year as a STH unless things change. I wasn't going to ask to cancel because they already took my money and knew it would be an uphill battle for them to refund.

Basically just said they arent going to spend any more money this offseason.
