**2016 Video Game Thread**
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) Ahhh, makes sense. I ended up splurging on younger promising players but, while fun, I'm now spread too thin for training them. Was easier when I focused on two and maxed em out every week. Yup, developing players is all the fun of career mode. Good young players to target: Embolo, Boufal, Tielemans, Coman, Bellerin, Dybala, Traore. Good list here: http://www.futhead.com/16/career-mode/play...ng_beast_rating

White Sox Sign Mat Latos
There's gotta be incentives in this contract right? Very rarely do you see a guy 2 years removed from being a top tier pitcher take a flat $3 million one year deal.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) Right now they're 7th in the East. Blog I just read suggests this is 7+ games for Jimmy. Bulls are 1.5 games ahead of the Hornets, in the middle of a losing skid, now without their best player. I sure as heck would be trading Gasol for the best deal I could get in this situation, probably also trying to clear either dunleavy or Gibson out so that they can make a full max contract offer to anyone and everyone next offseason. What's the harm? Butler + Rose + Durant sounds like an adequate setup to me. Yeah we're not getting Durant.

Can we just call it quits this year and get a good pick?

White Sox Sign Mat Latos
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) What's the deal with Mat Latos? Is he still good? I heard he wasn't a good clubhouse guy. I also wonder if this means that a starting White Sox pitcher is on the move. Good peripherals, bad ERA. So bad that the Dodgers, who traded for him, DFA'd him a month later. It's a low risk high reward type move. FWIW, his fastball velocity was actually pretty decent last year in comparison to 2014.

At least it's not expensive.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) Him and Suarez are a class of their own. I do agree that Costa might be the most loathsome player at the moment. Nigel de Jong could be counted as being in their class as well. Suarez has been on good behavior ever since the World Cup incident though.

If The Sox Moved
If they kept the name and the logo, I wouldn't care. I don't live in Chicago anymore, so it'd be more or less the same to me.

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) As a Spurs fan who studied in Leicester in fall of 2010 (saw Spurs six times and the Foxes twice when they were in the Championship), this season is amazing. This season's been great to watch from the outside looking in. I don't really have a horse in this race, I just want to see chaos. Leicester City winning the Prem would be the largest dose of chaos in decades. Hasn't it been 20 some odd years since someone outside the big 4 (+ Man City) have won the Premier League? Now there's 2 non big 4 teams at the top of the table, including one that was in the Championship not too long ago.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 6, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) LC might not lose another PL game this year. Spanking MC 3-0. Tottenham wins today, they move into 2nd. The game against Arsenal might decide who wins the Prem. If LC win that one, I think they have the league in the bag. Plus, LC have something like 14 games remaining overall while Arsenal, MC, and Spurs have Champions League and Europa League to worry about.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) I had a really bad Fifa moment where I had this really creative and fun end of transfer window, and didn't realized I needed to accept their contracts after i got the "accepted" emails. So the window ended and I was like..."where is everyone". So I basically lost all my players and gained no one. I should probably be fired. That happened to me when I first started playing FIFA. But there's a reason why you gotta accept the contract offer. It's so you can negotiate with multiple players at once.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 04:35 PM) This appears done, 50mm transfer fee!! Liverpool's reported offer was 36mm. Makes sense that he was the most expensive of the bunch. Easily Shakhtar's best player this year. He's not the same type of player as Douglas Costa, but Costa succeeding so much at Bayern should say something about the quality of Shakhtar's players. He should probably score 30 goals in China. He already had 22 goals in just 15 games in the Ukraine league.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) http://screamer.deadspin.com/don-t-look-no...-pla-1755273200 Article from Deadspin expanding on your post. Shows how many really good players they've have/had over there, big focus on Brazilians. Money is coming from corporations, some state owned, not really single billionaires. I really don't think you can just buy your way into relevance when it comes to soccer. At least from the standpoint of a league as a whole. I know individual teams have done that before though (City, PSG, Monaco, etc.) There's also been issues in the past where players weren't paid what they were actually offered in China (Drogba). China's national football program isn't very good. I feel like you at least need some good homegrown talent to become a relevant league. There's also the problem of China as a place to live. Air pollution is so awful sometimes that going outside is dangerous. I'm not sure a lot of these players will want to stay there for good.

What is up with all these players getting transferred to China? Guarin, Gervinho, Jackson Martinez, Ramires, and now maybe Alex Teixiera. These are all good players that the MLS can't even attract. Where's all this money coming from? Jackson's the 5th highest paid player in the world with the wage he's going to get. AFAIK the Chinese league, outside of Guangzhou Evergrande aren't any good.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) Jamie Vardy just scored a goal almost as good as Alli's. Leicester keeps defying the odds Holy longshots... https://twitter.com/worldsoccershop/status/...627070522068993 This year has really been a perfect storm for Leceister. Chelsea's demise, United's boring play, City and Arsenal's inability to perform to their fullest, and Mahrez and Vardy becoming nearly world class players out of nowhere. They're 10 points up on the last Champions League spot. It's almost a lock that they're gonna finish top 4.

Guardiola to City next year. Toure's probably gone from the team. Also rumors of him having 150 million pounds to spend.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
Soler has more talent than Avi, but the way I look at it, Soler is more or less what Garcia was maybe 2 years ago. When people thought Avi could hit and he just needed time to develop. The massive difference between the two is that Soler actually has some semblance of plate discipline.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) The one in the online shop doesn't look quite right: http://shop.mlb.com/Chicago_White_Sox_New_...IFTY_Fitted_Hat That one's different. The ST ones are made of the sports fabric or whatever they call it.

Rockies Trade Dickerson to Rays
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) They didn't have a closer. Do now Yeah, but they're not gonna win anything. Why trade a good piece like Dickerson for something you have no need for ATM? There's gotta be a subsequent deal to this.

Love that cap. I'm gonna have to get one.

Rosenthal thought this trade made no sense for the Rockies a few days a go. They have no use for McGee...

Sox should trade for Andre Ethier
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) For that price, just sign the much younger everyday player in Upton. And, if he's sitting against lefties with that salary, it's almost like paying him $24-25 million. We had the same problem with Cabrera last year as well. A Thome-like subsidy to cut his contract down to $12-14 million, it starts to make more sense. It's 2 years vs. 6 though...
-
Sox should trade for Andre Ethier
Just looked over his stats the past few years and you're right. Good OBP, decent power, won't kill you in the OF. $36.5 million over the next two years isn't terrible. We can probably get him for almost nothing as well, considering it's more or less a salary dump.

Fangraphs WAR projections for Sox
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) Those ERA projections for Quintana and Rodon are laughable. Quintana sure, but I think that's where Rodon is expected to be ATM. His walk rate is still a bit high.
