  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) I really like my galaxy s3, might be a while before I replace it. Sorry, I had to do it. People wouldn't know if you were talking about the Galaxy Note 3 or the Galaxy S3 once the Note 3 does come out in a few months.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) You got a specific reason why? I need something, anything to grab onto to make it seem like I had an actual reason and so I don't feel bad about passing the other one over. Because almost everyone who does not own an iPhone will have one? The S4 is a beast of a phone spec-wise, just like the HTC One. But it really just comes down to personal preference. Which do you hate less, Touchs*** or NonSense 5? I use the word hate because both skins blow. What do you think feels better, plastic or aluminum? Which phone do you think will be updated faster (hint: it won't be HTC)? Do you care for speaker sound quality (cause the HTC One has awesome sound)? If you like build quality, go with HTC. If you want possibly faster software updates, go with the S4. The software on these two phones is more or less the same (although the S4 will come with Android 4.2.2 at launch, the One will not, but it will get it sooner or later (typical HTC)). Also keep in mind that there are rumors of HTC having supply issues, so you may not be able to buy the One until early or mid-April, even if you pre-order.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) I don't have as much brand trust in HTC, but I think their new One is the best phone available at this point. The stupid HTC naming results in lots of puns, intended and unintended.
  4. So how bad has Danks' velocity been the past two outings? He's gotten hit really hard.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:55 PM) My parents are looking for a 4g hotspot device so when they are at the family cottage from April-September my mom can pay bills and such online without having to drive to town or whatnot. They initially thought of upgrading my mom's phone (Verizon) to an iphone5 so that the can have the wifi hotspot capability (she currently has no data plan). While a decent option, I'd be concerned with her using any smart phone as she is terrible with technology, plus it's quite expensive for their data plans (around $40 more per month with their crappy shareable data plan pricing). So I suggested that they look into Clear so they can pay $20/mth for 2gb, plus they can just pay for the months they are using. Anybody ever use Clear? Or a similar service provider that would be about the same for costs? My neighbors used to use Clear (they might still use it, but I don't know). They said their service usually sucked, but that was like 4-5 years back, so who knows.
  6. Well, with the Celtics loss, the Bulls stay in 6th place in the East.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) They never did it before last year, and that was for Youkilis. It's just weird the Sox are the only team that observes a special start time for Yom Kippur. Steve Stone?
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) I'm interested in their thoughts on Alexei. He had some important downward stats last year, but he was coming off of a career year value-wise. He could very well be near the top next year and his placement on that list seems like a worst case scenario, which isn't that bad. They talk about ADA reverting to his "pre-2011" form -- what the hell is that? playing in the minor leagues? He had no track record until the White Sox gave him a shot and he's done well since. I think he's a candidate for regression (though his finish to the season dropped his numbers quite a bit) but that was a stupid statement. As far as 3B goes, it seems that it is just a fairly deep position in the league. Kep will do a decent job and be a HUGE improvement. I think there is some chance that they overrated Kep and underrated Gillaspie, but that's just a hunch on my part. Some platooning should benefit both of their numbers greatly. 2B seems to be on the money, though maybe on the optimistic side. Alejandro will be Alejandro. Decent lead-off man and decent defender. I don't see him reverting. He's usually pretty good at not going into deep slumps. He only had one kind of bad month last year where he failed to put up an OBP over .300. He had a .323 in April and a .340 in August, but the rest of his numbers looked very good. His first half numbers and second half numbers were also very similar. He actually hit better in the second half (believe it or not).
  9. For those of you who might not like the Xperia Z for whatever reason, Sony's making a 4.6 inch Xperia SP that looks pretty cool. It's pretty much identical to the Z and ZL, except it's smaller. It should be cheaper, too. Instead of $700 unlocked like the Xperia Z, this one might be $500. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/03/18/so...igh-end-lineup/
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) God I love that photo Reminds me of T-Mac.
  11. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) I have a "dumb" phone but it's got a touch screen and the lock button is on the top on the left. It's easy enough for me to reach up with my index finger and hit it while holding it in my right hand. How big is your dumbphone though? It wouldn't be a real issue on a smaller phone. On a phone with a 4.7 inch screen, things get complicated.
  12. So who on the Score said there's a chance he will play...?
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) Pitching will be top 10 for both (or at the very least, should be). RF could be top 10 too. LF will be middle of the pack to low 20s. All told, it will be a team that should be projected to win 85 games with a high floor (I really don't see this team losing 80 games unless there are significant injuries) with some, but not a lot, of room to grow. The 4 biggest areas for improvement come at 2B, 3B, SS, and LF, and I think LF is the only one that could be overall significant (talking 3+ wins added...I see 3B as maybe 2 wins, 3 at the most). Everybody hates Rios, so I doubt we'll get top 10 for RF.
  14. QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) I agree. It was a stupid headline (although the writers rarely/never write headlines for their articles, so I'm not sure the blame on that goes to Cowley). Unlike you, however, he actually has real sources that have inside knowledge on the situation. Joe Cowley? Inside sources? Hahahahaha.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 17, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) FWIW, I frequently make stuff happen in my pocket and/or hand with my iPhone because I forget to lock it. I think the lesson we need to learn is to lock our phones. I've never liked where the power button on the iPhone is. It makes so much more sense to place the lock button on the side of the device. You end up holding your device with your fingers near the sides at all times. This design makes it a lot easier for you to lock the phone. And I especially don't understand why HTC put their power button on the top left of the HTC One. First of all, it's a bigger phone, so it'll be even harder to lock and 2. do they expect most people to use the phone in their left hand or something? Because I can't imagine locking that phone with one hand when it's in my right hand.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 17, 2013 -> 08:56 PM) Illinois over Miami, Marquette, Indiana, Kansas, & Louisville. Book it. That'd be awesome.
  17. Well, I'm glad Illinois got a 7 instead of the dreaded 8/9, but I really doubt we can keep up with Miami. Here's to hoping Griffey, Richardson, and Paul all shoot lights out in the tournament.
  18. Thibs said Rose is far away from playing. Better hope for a miracle Steve.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2013 -> 10:30 AM) This just amazes me... Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS Lucas Harrell has looked good in #astros camp. logical opening day starter (though not named yet). Well, looks like we let one slip away. Harrell started throwing 93-94 after he went to the Astros. He was always 90-91 with the Sox. It made a big difference.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 17, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) Steve's story has now reached random people on my fb feed. The trolling for hits thing has worked to perfection. Don't you just love the internet?
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 17, 2013 -> 09:00 AM) I agree on the expanded memory issue, it's just not that necessary, and adds complexity/non-standard directory structure, except for a minor few applications, such as photography or video, most of which your phone isn't necessary for anyway aside from a select few "check this out" circumstances. People offload data onto drobos, or pc's/macs, not their phones. HSPA+ is ok, but it's not LTE. This is the same as when people said their DSL was fast enough and they didn't need cable or fios. You don't until you have it, then you won't want to go back. I had hspa+, and while its theoretical speeds are great, you never get them. My slow speeds are now on par with perfect HSPA+ speeds, without the latency. It's good enough for now, but the fact is, they're building out LTE networks now, and HSPA+ networks are stagnant, and no new work/expansion is going into them. It's time to move on. Was the device you used HSPA+42 though? There is a big difference between a HSPA+21 device and a HSPA+42 device. My Nexus 4 gets twice the network speeds my Galaxy Nexus got.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) Sale hit hard White Sox's 11-5 loss to A's http://www.heraldextra.com/sports/baseball...1191e3f812.html Love how the Associated Press (which went out all over the country) focuses on Sale, when Parker gave up more runs and the White Sox actually won the freakin' game. Wonder if that would ever happen to the Cubs or Cardinals? lol what's worse is that they got the result of the game wrong in the headline.
  23. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 09:52 PM) If his full name is Steve Henry Eric, he would put shame into the great Rick Bobby
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) It's been tested to work after being submerged for 30 minutes. I don't plan on swimming with it but it's nice to have that piece of mind if it fell in a river or the kid drops it in the toilet. EDIT: And they've already released an Android 4.2.2 version ROM (Cyanogen) for this phone. The Z isn't going to be sold on-contract in the U.S., at least there hasn't been any indication yet. AT&T will offer the ZL though, but it's not water-resistant.
  25. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) This is probably just semantics, but remember that it is more "resistant" than waterproof. I'm sure you can sweat all over it and I even heard it you could run water from a faucet over it, but I wouldn't try to swim with it if you're a triathlon type of person or something. The Sony phone is also built to withstand lots of drops. I know I gave Sony lots of s*** for glass on the back, but it appears their glass is very very strong unlike the glass on the back of the iPhone 4/4S and Nexus 4. There was some video where a few guys were basically dropping the phone from chest height for fun. Nothing happened after 3-4 drops.
