Dunn will probably have the most HRs on opening day in MLB history before it's all said and done.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 31, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) Severely disappointed in the walking dead tonight. That was a whole lot of build up for absolutely nothing. Biggest cop out by the writers. They might drag the Governor stuff into next season somehow. Whatever they're doing, they're deviating from the graphic novel.

Trayvon Martin
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 30, 2013 -> 01:00 PM) But nobody got hurt, except for the guy who wound up with a couple black eyes and probably a mean little headache. And notice how the guy who started the fight didn't initially come at them with the gun, his wife actually pulled hers out first when he was getting knocked around. Part of responsible gun ownership is not behaving like that when you have your weapon on you (you really shouldn't behave like that at all, but skip that point), I agree. But fights like this happen all the time and sometimes people really do get hurt, in the right spot a punch can be lethal, however once a gun was brought into the picture nobody wanted to fight anymore. The guy and his wife took off, the kids freaked out and backed off and the whole thing went from escalating like crazy to suddenly diffused. Emotions were definitely running high, the guy was so amped he (probably) accidentally discharged a round into the pavement. But he didn't shoot anyone. His wife didn't shoot anyone... even this example of a wildly irresponsible gun owner who lacks both trigger discipline and judgment didn't end up the way liberals envision every confrontation culminates to. What you should take away from this is that if that bozo didn't light anyone up then over-f***ing-whelming majority of responsible gun owners sure as hell wouldn't either. Except in the case of Treyvon Martin, someone did die...

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 30, 2013 -> 11:34 PM) So, because Felix posting by himself was depressing, looks like the Sky will likely get Skylar Diggins or Elena Delle Donne. They are both good enough and pretty enough to possibly be marketable in Chicago. Just an interesting thought. Why is this in the NBA thread? There's a WNBA thread isn't there?

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Mar 30, 2013 -> 09:10 PM) NBA upgrades Taj Gibson's foul on Lebron to flagrant They clearly don't know what a flagrant foul is then. Taj had no intentions of hurting LeBron, unlike that shoulder LeBron tried on Boozer.

Thesis -- No Thesis
QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 30, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) I am approaching that moment in grad school where I have a choice to go thesis or no thesis route in my studies. I have been talking with the professor who would chair my committee, I have been in several of his classes and he believes I will have no problem with the actual writing of the thesis, but the research may be a struggle while also working days as a teacher. Much of the material I will need is housed at the UT library in Austin about 6 hours away from me. I may also need some papers that are in Lawrence Kansas. My PhD plans are still up in the air, who wants to hire a recently graduated 60+ year old PhD? But intellectually the challenge would be exactly what I need as I end my working career. Maybe Greg can help you with that.

Opening Day Lineup
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 29, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) Robin said, Dunn and Paulie will alternate 4/5 depending on games. Good strategy. Hit Dunn 4th against righties, drop him down vs. lefties.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 29, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) Carlos Gomez proving my point about how difficult it is to get accurate defensive metrics on outfielders. 2 deep drives , certainly covered a lot of ground using his speed to get to one but not hang onto it. The other one ,by Dunn, had to be curving away from him so, though Gomez is fast, might have got a decent jump but might not have anticipated or prepared for Dunn hitting it to left of center . So his route looked bad. No errors given but there's no way to know how many outfielders would have caught none , one or both of those balls. Those things eventually even out, which is why sample size is important for defensive metrics. But Gomez has a hell of a lot more range than the average center fielder, so I'd assume most CFers don't make those plays.
