  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) No, that's not the re-sale value for most smart phones. Maybe new ones. Like a Galaxy S2 that's less than a year old. But you can get that much for a iPhone 3gs or a 4. Not a 4s. A 4. http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Samsung-Google-Nex...mpt=Cell_Phones Say what? Looks like used for $200+.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) Myers as a starter in the AL for the Sox... What type of numbers would you expect? I'd see 200+/- innings - work horse number 4 type stuff. Maybe a 1.3 WHIP if cooper works well with him. 200 innings, anywhere from 4-4.5 ERA. So league average. For $10 million, that's not horrible.
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) That's an advantage when you upgrade. It's nice being able to sell my 2 year old device for 200-400$. That's the re-sale value for most smart phones now anyways. Apple's really set the bar for carrier subsidies. New unlocked Android phones come out costing $600-$700 as well. I sold my Nexus S for $300 and that's almost a 2 year old phone. Granted, I hadn't used it for two years.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 05:31 PM) iPhones are probably the most obvious device of people trying to have a certain image that I can think of. Yeah, driving around a BMW or Mercedes does it too, but the cheaper way to look cool is to get an iPhone. It's the epitome me, "everyone else has one, I need to one too!". There are some people out there that would love a $800 price tag, that way it can be more exclusive and people will know you must have a lot of money if you can afford to get one. Suuuuuuch a status symbol and fashion accessory, it's sickening. Unlocked iPhones do cost $800...lol.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) The only product Apple ever made that stood out to me as being really cool and different from what I had seen elsewhere, was the iPod Touch. At the time, I wasn't aware of any other completely touch screen mp3 players that had a bunch of games and apps on them. THAT was cool. Everything else they have made I have said "ok, and why is that any different or better than anything else already out there?". I don't see them as an innovative company at all. They just take things that already exist, and slap their logo on them and people freak out, piss themselves, and wait in line for days to buy it for 2x the price of similar items that already exist. I'm not a fan of Apple. I despise their philosophies on the openness of software and I think their products are often overrated. But that doesn't mean they don't make good products or products that are innovative. iTunes and iPod gave a huge boost to digital music and its distribution. Sure, you can say the piracy of music was prominent far before iPods even existed, but let's face it, without a popular device and software that was easy enough for the average person to use, digital music would not have spread as fast as it did. The iPhone is arguably one of the greatest electronic devices in the past decade. It was the first of its kind to the market. The first to truly open up the mobile ecosystem. It was innovative, to say the least. However, Apple's software policies and its limitations on what people can do with their hardware and software has, in my opinion, hindered their ability to innovate in the past few years. iOS isn't that much different than what we saw 5 years ago, when it was first released. The UI doesn't give enough flexibility to users to make it seem fresh or different either. The only solution to this is jailbreaking and even then, it's hard to make iOS look exactly how you want it to look (no, Dreamboard themes are not good enough). You can say that Apple lacks morals and overcharges for their products. But you really cannot say that the products they've made have never been innovative. Because the truth is, they have been. Apple wasn't always popular. In fact, they were close to going into the red in the late 90s. They needed to make products that were innovative and good in order to get back to profitability. It isn't all marketing or brainwashing. A lot of it had to do with the fact that the products they made were good and innovative. That brings us to your other point. Are Apple devices just a symbol for people to flaunt? I think the answer is yes. They're so popular now and they're not cheap. A lot of people like to show off that they have Apple products and that's just the way it is. So in that respect, you have a point. Slap an Apple logo on something and people will like it and buy it. But it wasn't always that way and that's not the only reason people buy Apple products.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) Are the songs you buy on iTunes only allowed to be moved to Apple devices? I am pretty sure other devices can play them. Creative players come with PlaysForSure, which ensures that any music you purchase through an online music store is capatible to play on the device. Plus, "drag and drop" is a much more simplistic and easier system to use than iTunes. iTunes is pure garbage as a software. My dad made the mistake of buying an ipod a long time ago, and he could never figure out how to use iTunes, and neither one of us could figure out how to get a video on the damn thing. He ended up switching to a Sandisk I believe, and it was much easier to work with. They are now, but iTunes purchases were DRM'd for iTunes and Apple devices for a LONG time.
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) Can somebody remind me the number of games finished in his clause? Looks like he has 30 so far. He needs 45.
  8. Screw you Valverde.
  9. That was a cheap home run.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:49 PM) Cabrera and Fielder both hit ridiculous home runs. I don't think either of them could be considered better than the other Both are still fat.
  11. Come on Boston, come back and win this thing. This is a big game for us with the Angels coming to town.
  12. Red Sox cut the lead down to 6-3.
  13. Aaron Cook sucks ass.
  14. I think we can still give Peavy his $22 million...if it's split over two years.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) Declining the option is pretty much a given, no matter how good he has been or will be. Sox are not dishing out $22M to any one player. If Jake likes it in Chicago enough to give the Sox a bit of a discount, then he will stay. If he insists on testing the market, somebody will overpay for him, just like they did for Buehrle. I'd rather re-sign Liriano for $11M per year than Jake for $17M per year. Nobody is giving Liriano $11 million a year.
  16. If Jake is willing to shave $12 million off his option for a new 2 year $20 million contract, I think we'll all welcome him back with open arms.
  17. I think this might be our best year vs. the Twins since 2000.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) He has plus control for someone his age. Nothing about him screams "thrower" to me. In fact, I think as he gains experience and the team gains further comfort of his use of off-speed stuff, you'll really see him develop. He has pretty clean mechanics and the makings of 2 good secondary pitches (slider & change). He has decent control on his fastball, that much is true. But he's thrown his fastball 78% this year. That just screams thrower (at least in my definition of what a thrower is). He needs more variety, that's all I was saying.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) It's no Zune. Zune headphones were the s***. They had magnets on them and they sounded great for something that came with a media player.
  20. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Reed is learning. He's pretty fearless. And I think the experience he's getting under pressure will page huge dividends later in the season. He needs to learn how to pitch. He's been a thrower this year and with the stuff he has that's understandable. But he's starting to use the changeup much more effectively and that's good to see. The reason he's been shaky lately is that he hasn't been able to use the slider effectively. He's pretty much been a one pitch pitcher for the last month. His slider's just not enticing for guys to chase now that there's a scouting report on him.
  21. Reed just loves to build the suspense. Good road trip! Back to 10 games over.
  22. Umpires decided to disappear in that PA.
  23. Valencia always kills us. Come on Reed.
  24. Damn it Rios.
