Javy lost a lot of money by not signing that proposed extension with the Cubs. At just over $20 million a year this seems like a fair deal for Detroit. The concern with Javy is how his game will age on offense. He did show better plate discipline with the Mets last year but that was also after the Mets collapsed and his struggles and antics were right in the middle of it.

The projection systems have Conforto as a 2.5 win player next year. He's also only 29, so I doubt they'd project a huge fall for him production-wise in the next 4 years. At the very least, I think you're gonna get 10 WAR out of Conforto in a 4 year deal. At $20 million a year, that's about the going market rate. And like you said, there's a chance he bounces back and goes back to producing like a 4 WAR player.

I still think our ceiling is 4 years and $80 million.

That's what the salary floor is for. This is just to get some more money from extra playoff games.

Kiner-Falefa looks like Leury without the ability to switch hit. Solak is interesting. He did hit really well in April last year, but I think pitchers adjusted and he got sent down to AAA. He did hit ok after he came back up though. His speed and ability to hit for power makes him way more interesting than someone like Mendick.

I doubt we'll be able to afford a guy like Kris Bryant.

It really is a philosophical problem with this franchise. We love to spend money on mid-market players. It's not like we don't have a high payroll. We do, but our highest paid player is making under $20 million and we've never signed a free agent for a higher AAV than $19 million. If you asked this FO if they'd rather have one 6 WAR player making $30 million a year over 5 years or if they could sign three 2 WAR players over 3 years for $36 million combined a year they'd probably take the latter every time.
