  1. How is using WAR worse than what they already do in arbitration? Currently, the team tries to neg the player and the player tries to sell himself to a panel. With WAR, it's at least less subjective and you don't have to go through that process that's not good for either side. Edit: I see they are saying that the figure that they come up with will be the final salary in arbitration without argument. I was thinking it was more of a guideline to go with and not how they determined arbitration salary before based on years of experience. I don't think the PA will go with the currently proposal at all.
  2. Vaughn was in the bottom 1% in outfield jump and bottom 6% in OAA among all outfielders last year. He was pretty sure handed, but he had absolutely no range. Conforto may not be a good fielder, but he's at least somewhere around average out there.
  3. Vaughn looked fine in LF, but was absolutely awful in RF in the short time he played there.
  4. Yeah, he has to have symptoms since vaccinated players don't get tested regularly.
  5. Yeah it's kind of ridiculous considering other leagues let you play if you test negative two times in a row.
  6. You think he'll get 4 years and $30 million per?
  7. The timing of this really couldn't be worse.
  8. FanGraphs' crowdsource has him getting 4 years at $23 million a year. Do you see the Sox forking over that much money? I certainly don't. It seems like the max we're really willing to go with is about $19 million a year on our players.
  9. Fuck, just when he was starting to turn it around too.
  10. Lonzo looked way more involved this game. Probably his best game yet. West coast trip is gonna be a real test. I'll gladly take .500 for the trip.
  11. Nagy's a clown. Your team just lost cause the refs totally misinterpreted an already dumb rule and you're still defending it? Why the hell is football heading towards 2010 baseball's "play the game the right way" bullshit?
  12. OAA thinks he's above average and he's had good OAA numbers in RF besides 2020.
  13. Mixed bag. But I don't think he's bad or anything.
  14. Yeah, you can easily find an 11 start period last year where he was pretty good. In fact, he had an 11 start stretch where he had a 3.2 ERA from late April to to mid June. Sox will be lucky to get a 4.5 ERA out of him next year.
  15. I'll be very surprised if we get anything useful for him.
  16. 6 bWAR is a vast over value for him. bWAR tends to go crazy when a good pitcher has a good year with a bad defense behind him. I think his true value is probably somewhere around 2-3 WAR.
  17. Miley also collapsed down the stretch for Cincy after pitching really well for the first 5 months. He did something similar for Houston a few years back. His profile of allowing weak contact is intriguing but I ultimately think he's at the mercy of luck since he really doesn't miss a whole lot of bats. The fact that teams didn't want him for 1 year and $10 million in a trade should tell you what his market really is. Good pickup for the Cubs though, since they got him for just the money alone. I wouldn't want to be him when the wind is blowing out at Wrigley though.
  18. Probably. It really nerfed him as a pitcher. He got a bit too predictable as a reliever.
  19. Just because they didn't pick it up doesn't mean they won't sign someone for cheap at 2B. I still think Escobar is the most likely guy they sign to play 2B.
  20. He actually threw more than fastball+slider when he started. I'm gonna guess he wasn't comfortable throwing the curveball without a good amount of time to warm up and get a good feel for it.
  21. Is there a live stream for this?
  22. He declined the mutual option but is still arb eligible for $9 million.
  23. Duvall also had heavy reverse splits in 2021. He couldn't hit lefties at all, but has pretty even splits for his career. A reverse splits right handed hitter might not be a bad idea for the Sox. Much better than a right handed outfielder that do most of their damage against lefties.
  24. He lost a lot of weight last year and it paid off. He probably had his 2nd best season of his career and was a huge positive defensively.
