Angels trading for Justin Upton
I'm not sure how the Angels are even in the playoff race. Besides Trout and Simmons, their entire team is pretty bad. Upton might get them into the Wild Card game, but I don't see how they'll get the quality pitching to win in the playoffs.

FS: A look back at White Sox waiver trades
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Forgot Greg's all time favorite waiver acquisition, Alex Rios. He's the reason we have Leury Garcia though.

Game 3 vs Stros
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 10:02 PM) How fast was that pitch? 98.7. Yoan can hit a fastball.

Source: Darvish Traded right at deadline to Dodgers
Say what you want about Darvish, but if he's on, he's dominant. That's what you need in the playoffs. My issue with LA's always been their lack of pitching depth behind Kershaw in the playoffs. We saw how useless their pitchers were after Kershaw and Hill against the Cubs last year. If Darvish stays healthy, they should be set in the rotation. I still think their bullpen is very iffy outside of Kenley though.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 06:45 AM) Why is it when I look at Davidson's numbers I think of him as a younger Trumbo Lite? Low BA, high K's and loads of power. I say let Davidson play 3B as much as possible. Some team might see value in a young cost controlled 3B with power and some years of control left. It's possible Davidson could bring back a decent haul a year from now. Hell, it's even possible Davidson mashes enough to be the future DH/1B. Nice thing is that his future doesn't have to be decided just yet. Davidson is the best 3B option until Burger is ready so let him play 3r and see what happens. The thing about Davidson is that he doesn't walk. He used to in the minors, I'm not exactly sure what happened. If he can bring his walk numbers up, the lack of contact wouldn't be as big of an issue. His power is there, but he needs to be able to at least get on base at a .300+ clip to be considered valuable.

Those last 2 pitches were strikes. Not sure what Contreras is arguing about.

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 12:00 AM) People really overrated DRob's value. Remember the package be almost went for during the offseason? He's had a good year, but not great. Robertson's best used as a setup man IMO. He's way too hittable when he isn't locked in.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:50 PM) Rutherford #6 in Sox system, Clarkin #18 per MLB.com Crazy that we have 6 top 30 prospects.

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
I don't quite understand this trade from the Yankees' perspective. Is their bullpen that bad? They already have Betances and Chapman. How bad can it really get? If they just needed MR help, they didn't need to give up their #3 prospect to do it. Is Frazier that big of an upgrade over what they have?

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
Great trade. Robertson and Kahnle had no business on this team. Frazier was whatever. To get the #30 prospect back in this deal was a good get.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Q looking very sharp. Wilson Contreras really heating up for the Cubs. Yup, his fastball's sitting 93-95, which is where he was sitting last year when he was pitching really well early in the year.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Did the Clippers get a better deal for Paul then the Bulls did for Butler? Nah, Lavine is better than all the players in that trade outside of CP3. Plus Houston's pick next year is gonna suck. The return should have been much less than the one for Jimmy though. CP3 only has the option year left while Jimmy has 2 years on his contract.

QUOTE (aryzner @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) Not saying Eaton is/was a great teammate (thinking of the whole Drake LaRoche thing) but wasn't Montero one of the most vocal guys from the Dbacks bashing Eaton when he was sent to the Sox? He also ran Trevor Bauer out of town.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) That is a terrible f***ing return. Jesus. I wouldnt have done that for just Butler, but the16th pick too? That's what killed it for me. I was fine with a 3 for 1, but us giving up the pick made the deal terrible for me.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) So what's the solution? No salary cap? The problem with European soccer is that the big clubs just buy the big players because there is no salary cap. The problem in the NBA is that the big name players all want to play together to form super teams. Two different problems that end with the same result: predictable and top-heavy leagues. Everyone knew that the Finals were going to be Cavs Warriors before the season even started. Maybe the Spurs could sneak in, but the East was pretty much set-in-stone. It's just like how there's 3 teams that can win La Liga every year and only 3 teams. Just like how there's maybe 8 teams that have a shot at smelling the Champions League Final. Hell I think there might be more unpredictability in soccer right now than the NBA. That's how low the parity has gotten in basketball.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) Such a whiff by Omar Gonzalez on the header there. You gotta put that on net That's twice now. I really don't understand this lineup by Arena. No Fabian Johnson. No John Brooks. No Tim Howard. So far Beasley and Guzan have screwed us and our 3 center backs stood around while Beasley forced Vela to the middle of the field like an idiot.
