Who gives a shit? Seriously. The problem here isn't what transpired. The problem is the "unwritten rule" that, evidently, not a whole lot of players give a shit about. A rule that doesn't make sense, anyways. 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, who cares when he swings???? There's no difference. The entire concept of "don't do something completely within the rules because it will piss off the other team and they will do something outside the rules" is absurd. But then again, I'm a hockey player, and pissing off the other team is actually something you strive for.

Seriously. What is this, little league? These are grown ass men being paid to play a game and ENTERTAIN us. If they can put up 30 runs, I want to see them put up 30 runs. If you don't have any pitchers left, well, sorry? Especially a division opponent. Eat up every single pitcher they've got. The MLB season is a marathon, and wearing down your opponent will pay dividends down the line. Taking your foot off the gas is one of the dumbest things to do in sports. I absolutely cannot stand it.

That's certainly a take. Not a take a lot of modern baseball people will agree with(which is obvious from all of the reactions). The entire idea of "not running up the score" in baseball is fucking stupid. So I shouldn't try as hard because your team is playing like shit? It's not like other sports where you can just run out the clock when you are up big. You still have to compete, 1 vs 1, hitter against pitcher, until they record 27 outs. If you don't want a guy to smoke a 3-0 pitch, then throw a better pitch? Put an actual pitcher in? 3-0, 3-1, who gives a shit when he swings? All taking a walk is going to do is PROLONG the game. Especially when you don't have an actual pitcher in. Should the Sox have just stood up there and not swung at anything? The "pitches" the guy was throwing were the most insulting thing about this entire situation, to me. I would have cranked that ball too. This entire narrative of "not showing up your opponent" is bullshit. This isn't little league, and guys get paid to hit the ball.

Fixed for you.

....what?

Just a snowflake like TLR, I guess?
-
I'm not sure we have anything to worry about, people. TLR will either be completely tuned out by the players within the month, or arrested for driving drunk again. The guy is CLEARLY a fucking alcoholic. Everything he says, he says with a scent of Jim Beam on his breath. What a terrible fucking decision to hire this piece of shit. But, not at all surprising, given JR's history.

Some guys are just injury prone. And a bunch of Buxton's injuries are....strange. To say the least. Of course guys get injured less playing DH. lol
-
I'm not. Do you have an example of a center fielder being worn out at the end of a season? This guy isn't sprinting around the field the entire game, every game. If a 23 year old, world class athlete is getting worn out from playing center field, something is very wrong.
-
Imagine talking about "wearing out" a center fielder in baseball. These guys sit around half the game.... How many balls does a center fielder even field in a given game? Come on.

Your assessment of the team usually sucks, so. There's that.

Luis Robert grade 3 strain/torn Hip Flexor, est. out 12-16 weeks
Paulie4Pres replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unbelievable. I would be gutting the entire strength and conditioning department with the way this season has gone, health wise. Also, this is why it's never good to be TOO ripped with muscle. It seems like you see a lot of muscle tears in guys that carry too much muscle mass. At some point, you start hindering your flexibility and durability. Speaking from a hockey perspective, here, but I feel like that applies to most sports. -
Yeah. Fuck TLR.

I was not a fan of bringing in La Russa at the time it was done. I absolutely hate the move now. This organization can't get out of it's own way.

So much this... I've watched almost every at bat thus far this season. I can only walk away thinking....why is this the first time he's had a good look at the MLB level? I think his approach at the plate is fantastic. He has a short swing, and sees pitches very, very well. I don't see why he cannot continue to hit the ball. Am I completely off base here? When he's up to bat, I just see a good hitter...

How do people not blame Ricky for today? Sox have a high powered offense, and the A's weren't throwing any world beaters out there. Dunning didn't even give up a run, FFS. You let him finish that inning unless he's in danger of giving up 3-4. It showed ZERO confidence in his team, and they were out of sorts all day afterwards. Hell, one could make an argument he contributed to whatever happened to Crochet, as he is a fucking starting pitcher... He had almost no time to warmup.

Worst manager in the majors.

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
Paulie4Pres replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Abreu hatred is so strange. He's a really good hitter, who has played in a terrible lineup most of his career. I would also like to see what his career numbers look like with some protection. There are much bigger problems on this roster than Jose. Everyone knows he's pretty bad defensively, but he plays first base...... -
A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
Paulie4Pres replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I may not be this savvy advanced stats guru, but, isn't Abreu leading the AL in RBIs? On the...10th ranked offense in the AL? Advanced stats be damned. Guys that drive in runs like he does, on a pretty average offensive team, are kind of valuable... -
White Sox ratings: up 40% on TV and streaming up over 100%

I am watching the Sox again for the first time in years. They are fun to watch. So this makes sense to me. -
White Sox @ Royals 1:15pm CST. Giolito vs Keller

This kid is pretty good. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) If ARoid started juicing at 15-16 couldn't it have been the reason why he was a physical freak when he was 18 and drafted first? And, herein lies the problem... You have no way of knowing or proving either way. Which is why I'm a fan of....you get caught taking them more than once, and you're wiped from the books. Like you never existed at any level of the sport. You get to keep your money, but all of your accomplishments and statistics are null and void. Just my two cents.
-
The thing is....nobody knows how good these guys really are when not on PEDs, except the guys taking them. We have no way of knowing how long they've been using them. Who is to say that they haven't been using some kind of PED since high school, where most PED use starts? That's the problem with using them. Now their entire career is in question... It is my opinion that most of these players have probably been juicing the majority of their careers.

how would YOU fix the sox attendance woes?
Paulie4Pres replied to ewokpelts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Concession prices, and parking are the major "f*** off" prices for me. -
KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) Now the real question is whether the Sox care about a comment like this? Do as many Cubs' fans say the same thing, or they're just paying more for the "experience" of being there, like going to Las Vegas or some random hip/trendy/cool/iconic place they can tell their grandkids? Well, the Cubs are more expensive, but they also have more fans across the nation. Wrigley is a tourist attraction. The Cell is not. Like you said, it's the hip/trendy/cool/iconic/historical place to go....
