  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) At this point someone is gonna pay him big bucks, not sure if he wants to take another home town discount. Sure, but it's not like we have a ton of guys in our lineup that are crushing the ball this year. As I said, if you don't pay him, who do you replace him with, and how much money does it actually save you? After seeing the mess at DH this year, I'm scared to see what the Sox do if they let Paulie go to another team...
  2. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) And then he threw a ball. Me thinks he was a little amped up. A ball at 99... Amped up? Yeah, I think so. But he settled down and struck out the best hitter on their team and one of the hardest guys in the AL to get out. Works for me.
  3. So, how do we not bring him back next year? I realize he's 34 this year, but I still think he has a couple good years left in the tank. If we don't bring him back, how do we replace him and his production, and what does it cost us to replace him?
  4. Chris Sale is a gamer.... Man.... I could read his lips at the end of the game there. "One f***ing pitch. Just one mother f***ing pitch."
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) There's someone else in the movie besides Carla Gugino's tits? Jessica Alba...
  6. Omar has been a huge plus this year. Amazing that he can still play the baseball he plays, at what, 43?
  7. I don't understand this team. SOMEONE SHOOT THE GUY IN THE STANDS MAKING THE "WOOT WOOT" SOUNDS!!!!!!! PLEASE!
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) Haha, no way!! Shocked that didn't hit the top of the fence the way things are going. I guess he kind of made up for throwing that one away in the ninth?
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) Sales slider>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Matty's For sure.
  10. Poor Beckham.
  11. Didn't look good, that's for sure. Especially with the area that our trainer was looking at. He was taken off the field really quickly too. Gut tells me broken bones in his hand. Hopefully it is just a precaution, but he was in a LOT of pain.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) Looked like his pinky. The way I saw it, it hit him between the pinky finger, and his wrist. That's a BAD spot to get hit. Several small bones in there.
  13. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) So far he has looked phenomenal. Yeah, I've been really impressed with him... Shades of Matt Thornton....
  14. Is it just me, or has Sale looked pretty good thus far in his time with the Sox?
  15. That didn't look good at all. I really hope he's not out with a broken wrist/hand, but I'm not holding my breath.
  16. No question about that one.... Soon as I heard it hit the bat, knew it was gone. What a pleasant surprise Rios has been this year.
  17. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) bases juiced wow....c'mon buehrle it's the indians for crying out loud....wait we play horrible against them i forgot 101 pitches and not out of the 5th. Sigh.........
  18. Why do we constantly give the other team outs? Christ. Let the guy swing the bat. He's been our best hitter tonight.
  19. Only a Major League baseball player can tweak their knee playing catch. Jesus, get these guys their tampons and be done with it already.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) Football is also a far more physically demanding sport, where you have to give 100% effort at all times you are on the field (unless you're Randy Moss). There's a reason the average running back's career is like 3 years and most players are done by the time they're 31. Baseball has also had 154 games and 162 games for over 100 years, and that's because it generally takes that many games (or more) to determine who are the best 4 teams within each league. Why does it take 162 games to determine who the four best teams are in baseball, yet, basketball and hockey take around half that, with just as many teams? I don't buy that. The length of the baseball season is revenue driven, just like every other sport. There's also tradition in place as well. There's no reason you can't determine the best teams at the 100 game mark, instead of the 162 game mark. None at all. Btw, here's an interesting fact. The ratio of regular season games to playoff games in baseball is roughly 60:1. The ratio in hockey and basketball is like 12:1... I'd much rather they shorten up the baseball season by around 30 games, and change the playoff format so six or eight teams from the NL and six or eight teams from the AL make the playoffs. Would make that last month of baseball much more entertaining.
  21. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) No TCQ in a Must Win game. Mercy. I was going to say the exact same thing.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) If you count the Super Bown in Feb, and just Training Camp starting in August, that's 7 or so months of NFL football where there are actual games going on...more if you count late July training camps. Furthermore, I think it's all but a given that there's going to be an NFL regular season expansion in the next CBA, so that'll lessen that point even more. Flip sports and it works too. Training camp for Basketball starts in October. November 1 is about tipoff time. Late June is the finals. That's 8 months from November to the end of June. If you count exhibition games throughout october, July August and September are about the only times when the NBA doesn't have games, and even then there is international competition and the Lebron James show. They only play football games for around 25 weeks. The other seasons are all much longer, and very similiar in length(36-38 weeks), but baseball plays twice the number of games during that time. The games last around the same amount of time as well, with baseball games leaning towards 3 hours, and NBA/NHL more towards 2:30. Basically, there is twice as much baseball played as any other major sport... I honestly think that most sports have too long of a season, aside from football, but that is all revenue driven. I guess I'm the only one that thinks there are just way too many baseball games being played.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) NFL Workouts and OTA's start in May. True enough I guess. Though, actual training camp doesn't start until the very end of July or beginning of August. The first pre-season games aren't starting until end of August. Season is wrapped up by the first week in February. I guess baseball is really not that different, except the ridiculous season length... They play the first spring training games first week of March, and don't finish up the World Series until end of October... Nearly eight months of baseball.
  24. I'm going to start my post off with this. I'm not a hardcore baseball fan. I'm basically a hardcore hockey fan, and a fan of all sports second. Now, that said, I don't understand why the baseball season is SO LONG. I mean really, 162 games is just...excessive. I find it difficult to really get into baseball as much as other sports, because of this. You have 162 games, and the average length of a baseball game has to be around 3 hours... When you add in spring training and post-season, you're talking 500+ hours of baseball in a year. Umm, yeah. If I, as a casual fan of the game, find watching that much baseball tiring, just imagine how the players feel? I realize it's a game and they are getting paid a TON of money to play, but that much repetition has to wear on you. I imagine a lot of what you witness in August/September is players getting disinterested. Especially the veteran guys that have been playing for 10+ years. It just has to feel like a grind after a while... I mean, as a casual fan, I really don't even start watching until August, just because there's too much baseball to be played. These guys actually report to camp in FEBRUARY to prepare for idiotic spring training games... I'm sorry, but does noone see anything wrong with this picture? Baseball in February? It would be like starting football training camp in June.... Hockey camp in July... You get the idea. By the time the World Series champion is decided, it is almost November. That's a LONG time to be watching baseball, let alone playing. My twelve cents.
