Everybody here loves Mercedes because it's exciting to watch him hit, he's fun, and it's a great story. Nobody gives a fuck about TLR, because people don't buy tickets or change the channel to see a senile old man sitting in the dugout napping. (while his starting pitcher is gassed and needs to be pulled...) The attitude of "fuck antiquated thinking that provides nothing of value" is the correct attitude to have. Not just when it comes to sports, but everything in life. The majority of these "unwritten rules" are about protecting people's fragile egos, and sucking fun out of the game. Baseball with plenty of emotion, energy, conflict, and animosity sells WAY better than "the gentleman's game". People want to see players whose entire approach is "Fuck you. If you don't like me showing you up, then stop me from doing it." Too many people that refuse to let go of the past on this planet.

It's called exaggeration, and hyperbole. The point is that the majority of players would not approve. Not sure why you think I need to "settle down". I don't really let idiots on the internet bother me.

Where is the sportsmanship in giving up, and putting guys in the game to pitch, that aren't pitchers? Putting in a position player to pitch in a nine inning game is fucking embarrassing, and an insult to your opponent. If you're going to do that, the entire facade of "sportsmanship" goes right out the window, as you're making a mockery of the game. As for the rest of your nonsense? Nope. This entire situation is over with. The Twins won't do shit to Mercedes, and I would bet on that.

Based on what? Why would the players be a fan of this at all? There's no logic behind it, and no benefit to the overwhelming majority of players.

If you asked the players, and floated the idea to them, 99% of them are going to vote against it. Even if it's only the 9th inning. Guaranteed. If "saving the bullpen" becomes a widespread problem, then they need to change the rules for the number of pitchers you can roster, and who can actually come in to "pitch" to prevent it. Until then? Tough shit if you're out of pitchers. That's on you. And if you put some scrub up there to throw 40-50 mph trash, we're going to crush him.

Guys will be upset with it. As a player, I would absolutely be upset with it. Guys want their at bats. They want their innings. They want to play. You do that enough times in a season, and it's costing guys hits, RBIs, home runs, walks, strikeouts, etc. Also, most competitive individuals want to finish out the game...

No. You fix it by getting old school meathead baseball out of the game. Because that bullshit is a big reason people don't find baseball entertaining anymore. And you do that by doing exactly what Yermin did. There's a reason pretty much NOBODY is calling him out. Because nobody gives a fuck about that nonsense anymore. That era of baseball needs to be buried(and hopefully, it soon will be) If the Twins didn't like the Sox running up the score? Good. They shouldn't. And they shouldn't be expecting any kind of "mercy" as professional athletes. ESPECIALLY playing against a divisional opponent. If they're tired of getting their ass kicked, then throw in the towel, hit the showers, and forfeit. It's so infuriating to see people continue to support the version of baseball that has been dying for years... People want to be entertained. Guys like TA and Yermin are ENTERTAINING. Pissing off your division opponent is ENTERTAINING. Animosity and rivalries are ENTERTAINING.

Sometimes people think there's a line that shouldn't be crossed. Sometimes, you need to cross that line repeatedly, to prove the line shouldn't exist. This is one of those situations. So fuck the Twins for not being happy and retaliating. And fuck TLR for throwing his player under the bus, and making a big deal about something nobody was talking about, until he opened his senile mouth.

It's pretty hard to not play for the team in baseball. Considering that....almost the entire game is focused around 1 vs. 1 encounters and individual performance. I've seen the argument presented that he "ignored" the signs. I didn't see any signs. I didn't see anyone giving signs. I didn't see anyone LOOKING for signs. I sure as shit didn't hear/see TLR leaving the dugout and yelling "TAKE!" If that had happened, surely, by now, someone would have evidence of it? It was a blowout game. I doubt there were ANY signs being given.

Who gives a shit? Seriously. The problem here isn't what transpired. The problem is the "unwritten rule" that, evidently, not a whole lot of players give a shit about. A rule that doesn't make sense, anyways. 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, who cares when he swings???? There's no difference. The entire concept of "don't do something completely within the rules because it will piss off the other team and they will do something outside the rules" is absurd. But then again, I'm a hockey player, and pissing off the other team is actually something you strive for.

Seriously. What is this, little league? These are grown ass men being paid to play a game and ENTERTAIN us. If they can put up 30 runs, I want to see them put up 30 runs. If you don't have any pitchers left, well, sorry? Especially a division opponent. Eat up every single pitcher they've got. The MLB season is a marathon, and wearing down your opponent will pay dividends down the line. Taking your foot off the gas is one of the dumbest things to do in sports. I absolutely cannot stand it.

That's certainly a take. Not a take a lot of modern baseball people will agree with(which is obvious from all of the reactions). The entire idea of "not running up the score" in baseball is fucking stupid. So I shouldn't try as hard because your team is playing like shit? It's not like other sports where you can just run out the clock when you are up big. You still have to compete, 1 vs 1, hitter against pitcher, until they record 27 outs. If you don't want a guy to smoke a 3-0 pitch, then throw a better pitch? Put an actual pitcher in? 3-0, 3-1, who gives a shit when he swings? All taking a walk is going to do is PROLONG the game. Especially when you don't have an actual pitcher in. Should the Sox have just stood up there and not swung at anything? The "pitches" the guy was throwing were the most insulting thing about this entire situation, to me. I would have cranked that ball too. This entire narrative of "not showing up your opponent" is bullshit. This isn't little league, and guys get paid to hit the ball.

I'm not sure we have anything to worry about, people. TLR will either be completely tuned out by the players within the month, or arrested for driving drunk again. The guy is CLEARLY a fucking alcoholic. Everything he says, he says with a scent of Jim Beam on his breath. What a terrible fucking decision to hire this piece of shit. Some guys are just injury prone. And a bunch of Buxton's injuries are....strange. To say the least. Of course guys get injured less playing DH. lol

I'm not. Do you have an example of a center fielder being worn out at the end of a season? This guy isn't sprinting around the field the entire game, every game. If a 23 year old, world class athlete is getting worn out from playing center field, something is very wrong.

Imagine talking about "wearing out" a center fielder in baseball. These guys sit around half the game.... How many balls does a center fielder even field in a given game? Come on.

Your assessment of the team usually sucks, so. There's that.

Unbelievable. I would be gutting the entire strength and conditioning department with the way this season has gone, health wise. Also, this is why it's never good to be TOO ripped with muscle. It seems like you see a lot of muscle tears in guys that carry too much muscle mass. At some point, you start hindering your flexibility and durability. Speaking from a hockey perspective, here, but I feel like that applies to most sports.
