  1. He wants like 4/40 or 5/50, and with Beckham waiting, I don't think they want to pay a middle infielder that much.
  2. I think "horrific" is a little bit too strong a word to use, but he definitely wasn't great, with his speed and athleticism, I think it can probably be attributed to Alexei never playing 2B before and getting bad reads/angles.
  3. Escobar was just rated like the 6th or 7th best prospect in baseball, we're not getting him.
  4. I think the deadline is 11pm CT today. today as in monday.
  5. I like that line-up, but I wouldn't like banking on Furcal staying healthy.
  6. QUOTE (MAX @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) What separates real rumors from other rumors? It being on the radio as opposed to print? I would say as soon as it's covered by ESPN/Baseball Prospectus/A major newspaper, it's a real rumor.
  7. By the way, is this actually a real rumor, or has it only been mentioned on the radio?
  8. Derek Lowe in a 3/48 deal w/ an option.
  9. I read somewhere that his fastball sits around 93
  10. I would be ecstatic if we got Morton, Lillibridge and Flowers. I'd also have to make Morton my avatar, since we share a last name.
  11. 1. Danks 2. FA pitcher 3. Buehrle 4. Floyd 5. Bailey/Richard/Marquez/Poreda And if we trade Jermaine Dye, why not offer Bobby Abreu a 2-3 year/30-45 million contract? He hits for a good average, has a great OBP and he's fast, have either him or Carlos play RF, and his contract will be done by the time Danks/Shelby are ready.
  12. The Braves aren't trading Jurrjens, he's a stud, I'm pretty sure he was off-limits in the Peavy discussions. If anything, for Dye and Vazquez, I think our return would be something like: Jo-Jo Reyes, Charlie Morton, Gregor Blanco/Brandon Jones & mayber Tyler Flowers(armstrong is nice, but Flowers is a real prospect that could take over after Pierzynski's constract is done).
  13. I thought the whole point of moving Dye was to get younger and faster?
  14. As long as he's not the first choice at leadoff, I've got no problems. He probably has more upside than Jerry Owens, and he's better in CF.
  15. QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) I listed Blanco as well a few posts back. Yet Jones, IMO is better than Blanco. Both are the same age. Yet Jones has a better line in the minors .283/.360/.456 in 1,000 less ab's compared to Blanco. Blanco has decent numbers .273/.372/.377. And his 182 sb's are nice. But not his 86 CS for a 68% avg. I think Blanco would be the better fit, as he plays CF and has the OBP you look for in a lead off hitter. The SB's aren't that important, but they definitely suggest that there is speed there, which we could use. I wouldn't care if he only stole 15 bases if he could repeat that .366 OBP leading off, play good defense, and score from 2nd base.
  16. Some one we should look into is Gregor Blanco. He plays CF, is 24, and had a .366 OBP in 144 games (430 AB's), and in 6 minor league seasons, he racked up 180+ SB's.
  17. He's a Sox prospect, there has to be something wrong with him.
  18. I'm thankful that we have a GM with some balls. I don't know what I'd do if we had some one like Bavasi/Sabean running the show.
  19. In Bailey's AAA playoff start, he pitched 6 innings w/ 2 hits, 1 walk, and 8 K's. A scout there said he was throwing 93-96 in the 6th inning and that he had the best slider he'd seen all season. I think it's fair to say that the groin injury and the sprain he suffered this season were at least contributors to his drop off.
