  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) He's not producing any offense for my team, so I won't give a s***. If he won't accept a trade that will get him off of a non-contending team so that he can contend this year and help out his current team with prospects, he'll just come off as even more selfish to me. After he convinced the Cardinals to spend a ridiculous amount of money on Holliday in order to persuade him to remain in St. Louis and then asked for the largest contract in the history of baseball, I've already soured on him quite a bit. I agree with you there. I'm starting to get tired of Pujol's crap as well. I used to always think he had much more character than to worry about whether he was getting the biggest contract in history. He's just coming across as more and more selfish as this thing goes on.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 02:02 AM) Hey, Don. I think I have a guy that's interested in joining. Should I give him the info? I ask because I'm not sure if you're holding out for somebody, it being your league and all. But I'll be sure to let him know not to join if he's not going to be active all year. Hey Jordan, Thanks for referring your friend. We already got 20 teams though, the 20th guy Reddy joined last night. So we're all good. We finally got 20. Once again, thanks for the referral.
  3. Update: We currently have 19 teams. We need just 1 more.
  4. Update: We currently have 16 teams, we still have 4 available slots if anyone is interested.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 02:54 AM) I'm in, Don. I'm counting on you when you say the draft shouldn't take anymore than 3 hours. Lol. It's cool if it does, though. Once again, thanks for joining, Jordan. I hope everyone shows up for the draft, because when everyone does it's much more quicker.
  6. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Feb 18, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) I know one is ChWRock2, I can't recall who the other is. Hey MHizzle, If there's any vacancies, I'd love to take over a team, even if it's a mediocre last place team. I like a challenge. Let me know, hopefully I can have first dibs.
  7. QUOTE (South Paw @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) I'm in if there's still room I sent you a PM with the information.
  8. Update: We now have 14 teams so far. We only need 6 more, we're almost there.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 14, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) Don, go to the American Kennel Club website and look up each breed. That is a great place to start. It will tell you what the dog should look and act like, as well as what they were originally bred to do and what their strengths and weaknesses are, how they do as a pet, etc. www.akc.org I'm a big fan of blue heelers...really cool, smart dogs. Thanks for the link. I also have a lot of fun with watching youtube videos of various breeds of dogs, especially videos of how dogs behave in the home.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 14, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) blue heelers are extremely smart and loyal dogs, but some of them have that herding instinct so thoroughly bred into them that they instinctively nip your heels when they get excited. And it f***ing hurts when a dog nips your achilles Wow, hopefully I can someday get a more timid blue heeler that wouldn't nip at my heels, lol. I think i might train my future dogs to put trash in the garbage. Thoughts?
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Pup flies in Saturday afternoon....have ordered everything I can possibly think of, including food, toys, treats, bed, crate, grooming tools, etc. He's about 23 pounds already at 9 weeks. Ready to rock and roll...should be fun...and a challenge...oh my. Good luck dude! And please post some pics of the puppy when you get him.
  12. Instead of creating a new thread, I thought I can just ask in this one since it's pretty much on the subject of dogs: Someday in the future I hope to get my own place and get a Doberman and a Blue Heeler Australian Cattle Dog. Does anyone have any experience with these breeds? I've always loved these two breeds since I was a kid and I read a lot of stuff about them and watched videos, but I never came across either of these breeds in person. If anyone that have any experience with these breeds can answer, that'd be great. Hey BigSqwert, I noticed from the links to the pics you posted in an earlier post that one of your dogs is a Doberman. What is it like to own that dog? Is your Doberman as gentle as other Dobermans I've seen in videos? And what kind of dog is your other dog? It almost looks like a terrier of some sort.
  13. The more I think about it, the more I think Pujols will end up in Toronto. With how the Blue Jays cleared out salary space by getting rid of Halladay, Rios, and Wells, I think Toronto might actually pull the trigger on signing the best player in baseball to the 300 million/10 year contract he wants. To me, Toronto is definitely a dark horse candidate.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) I hate formulaic nicknames for every professional athlete. A-Rod, ManRam, CLee, etc. I'm SOOOOO glad that I'm not a professional athlete, or people would be giving me the nickname D-Hen. A Hen ain't a cool enough of an animal to be identified with. And to keep up with the theme of this thread, another pet peeve I have with message board is all the anti-Obama crap that ignorant people says on various yahoo news articles' comments section.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 12, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) Alright, alright, alright, I'm just a softie when it comes to people being happy at weddings!
  16. Here's an update on who joined the league so far: 1. MHizzle 2. Knightni 3. TitoMB 4. That funky motion 5. Faztradamus6. 7. BigEdWalsh 8. me We will get 20, I guarantee it.
  17. CONGRATULATIONS MRS BLACKWOOD!!! You both look beautiful in your avatar. May you both have a wonderful honeymoon!
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) Sorry, I have no interest in playing with 6 relievers. Actually, you don't have to use 6 relievers. You have a lot of flexibility in how you decide to run your team. Just because there's 6 relief pitcher spots doesn't mean they have to be filled. I've been running 20-team leagues for the past 6 years now with the exact same position settings and I never had more than 2 or 3 relief pitchers. I always had 3 or 4 of my relief pitcher spots vacant and ended up putting extra starting pitchers and batters on the banch for more depth. I know I just gave away way too much free strategy there, but the point I'm trying to make is that you don't have to fill the relief pitcher spots if you don't want to.
  19. So far we have 4 managers: Steve9347 that funky motion BigEdWalsh and me. C'mon people, lets join!
  20. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 11:32 PM) I agree with you mostly, in terms of the overall idea. Animals are actually quite a bit more intelligent than human beings give them credit for, and are far more capable of defending themselves (or evading danger) than many human beings are, if you think about it. Many people will stand there and take a beating because they are afraid to fight back, or will refuse to arm themselves because they convince themselves that some of the ridiculousness they hear is true, like violence is wrong/bad/uncalled for in "civilized" society, etc. Most animals OTOH can at least play dead to try to confuse prey, or will arm themselves with some kind of unique poison, escape capability, claws/teeth/whipping or breakable tail, etc. The difference - and where dogs come in - is that dogs are animals bred to serve human beings and provide unconditional love generations removed from the wild and existing in breeds that didn't even exist naturally, not wild animals conditioned by the harshness of nature. Dogs trust their abusers and follow the orders of their abusers because their abusers feed them and at least appear to keep them safe. What Vick did, to me, is sick, plain and simple. He took a trusting, intelligent lifeform bred to serve man and he used his higher intellect to deceive the animal into maiming itself for its master, the only benefits being gambling monies, and then when the animal was useless he destroyed it in a fashion that (at least I would hope) makes people want to puke. Most people are going to be naturally anthropocentric in the way they think, and that's what law is based on. The law says what Vick did was wrong, but really not all that wrong, basically akin to selling some coke, vandalising a neighbor's property, stealing some money, etc. According to law, what Vick did is perfectly acceptable in other areas of the world, and at least not all that atrocious here. But you're not supposed to adjust your own concept of what is right based upon what the justice system says. Law isn't the issue here, morality is, which is actually a separate thing, and it boggles my mind when people constantly try to override the moral understanding of others with some remark about Vick "doing his time," or "atoning," or whatever. All that s*** relates to law, not individual morality - even an apology means absolutely nothing in this world. So as a purely moral issue, no, in my eyes Vick doesn't at all deserve to be let off the hook, no matter what the legal system says. The moral punishment for his crimes, which cannot be enforced by any legal system, is that Vick must go through the rest of his life being hated like cancer by a wide swath of humanity for being the scum he is. MB was nice about what he said. Perfectly nice. And he is in no way wrong for saying it. Great post!
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) 27 roster spots in a 20-team league? That's 540 players. Too much! Actually, it's really 25 roster spots with 2 DL spots for players that get injured during the season. That way you can have a playable 25-man roster at all times similar to the real-life mlb, and you can save your injured players by DL'ing them instead of dropping them. 20-team leagues are deeper, when you reach the 20th-25th rounds of the draft, it helps to know some lesser-known players to round out your bench. In this league, the Juan Uribes of the world has value.

  23. As the title of the thread says, I would like to throw my hat in the ring and offer my services to run Soxtalk's first 20-team league. For the past 6 years now, I've been running two other 20-team leagues and they're very successful and very competitive each year. Two Soxtalk members are regular members of my leagues and they can vouch for how I run a tight ship. This year I'm changing the scoring categories in all my leagues from the typical 5x5 to 6x6, which will incorporate runs, home runs, rbi's, stolen bases, average, obp, wins, k's, saves, holds, era, and whip. I'll be going ahead and creating the official Soxtalk 20-team league and posting the information in the post below. I'll pm invites to active soxtalk members, and if you're interested please let me know and i'll send you an invite.
  24. I got a new computer a year ago, but it doesn't have any photoshop programs in it. I wasn't able to salvage anything from my old computer, so now I'm looking around for a good photoshop program. I'd prefer one that I can download somewhere for free, if any such free programs exists. Anyone recommend anything?
