  1. Yea, I actually wasn't sure if "Aliens" was considered a horror film. I definitely would've listed it if I had known. Sometimes the whole sci-fi/horror distinction can get blurry.
  2. QUOTE (NHDadUmp-RI @ Oct 22, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp "This offseason, MiLB.com will be honoring the players -- regardless of age or prospect status -- who had the best seasons in their organization. " Danny Wild, Editor, MLB.com Congratulations to all!! Thanks for posting, bro. I enjoyed reading it. It'd be interested if Loman and Gartrell ever makes it to the major league roster.
  3. Still undecided between Quinn and Whitnety for Governor and Gianoulias/Other for Senate. I know for a fact that I DO NOT want Brady to be the next governor. This guy will just screw things up worse with his big business policies and how he wants creationism to be taught in public schools. He's just another rich guy trying to buy his way into office. Hell, even Scott Lee Cohen's more interesting to me with his checkered past.
  4. QUOTE (3E8 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) Won't be playing, but I really like the poker room at the Horseshoe. Best of luck Don Thanks, man. I like the poker room at Horseshoe Hammomd as well. I also like the poker room at Majestic Star because the entire third floor is all for the poker room and the deli, so it's nice that we have two nice poker rooms in the Chicago area. I never go to the casinos in Joliet, they don't even have what I would call poker rooms. Luckily for me, I live smack dab in the middle between the casinos in Joliet and Indiana.
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 06:58 AM) if I had the cash, I would try it. I play in roving tournaments at Chicago Charitable Games all the time, and we have a game at my house every 6 weeks or so. Good luck. Hey, I sometimes play at the CCG as well. The locations I play at are: the Turner Lodge in Tinley Park, the VFW in Tinley Park, the Fieldhouse in Midlothian, and the VFW in Oak Lawn. What locations do you play at? I wasn't able to play much the past 8 weeks cause I had a lot of homework for my 2 classes, but hopefully my schedule clears up after this week. What do you usually play there? I usually play sit-n-goes or tournaments with buy-ins of $40 or more, preferably $100 or more. I avoid the early bird at all costs, lol.
  6. Thanks for the responses, guys. It would've been cool to bump into you at the WSOPC. As I mentioned in my first post, I'm entering the $350 NLHE Event #10 on Sunday, October 24th. It falls on a perfect time on my schedule because this week is final exams at my school, which is on a trimester system, and the tournament runs on the 24th and 25th and my next class starts the next day on the 26th. So I'm kind of treating myself to some fun before I repeat the boredom of school. Also, last August 29th I played one of Horseshoe Hammond's daily $200 tournaments and I ended up finishing in 4th place out of 83 for $1,400. So I'm taking $350 out of that to enter Event #10 at the WSOP-C. So it's kind of a freeroll for me. I will let everyone know how I do.
  7. Just wondering if anyone's playing any of the WSOPC events at Horseshoe Hammond this year. I can't be the only poker player on Soxtalk... BTW, I'm planning on playing event #10 on Sunday October 24th. This will be my first WSOPC and I can't wait.
  8. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) Look at me mom. Look at me mom. I feel like I could go all f***ing night. : I just clicked on this thread to type that exact same thing. : I can definitely go all night with that prostitute, too.
  9. Are the Sox actually in the Wild Card hunt??? I thought they were dead?
  10. I heard they don't even speak english in England. That's according to Russell Peters, though. :-/
  11. I play lots of poker. I never play online, though, I only play live, so I'm pretty much old-school. I also only play tournaments. I've gotten into poker when my friends and I watched Chris Moneymaker win the WSOP Main Event in 2003. I had two groups of friends I played poker with, so I played twice as much. But I was the only one that took poker seriously and always tried to learn more and more from it. Got my ass kicked in my first casino experience in Vegas in 2006 at Flamingo and Paris, the highest place I finished was 11th place in a crappy tournament at Imperial Palace. After I got back from Vegas, I found an underground game in the back room of a pizza place in Midlothian that had one $125 tournament a month. I was the youngest person there playing against a bunch of middle-aged people. The first time I played there, I finished 4th and won $200. Which I was happy about since I won money back. Two months later I finished 2nd for $500, and even flopped Quad Aces in one hand. Also finished 4th again 2 months later for another $200. Went to Vegas again in December 2007 and played more poker. This time I played at Sahara and Paris and just couldn't get in a roll. Then I played at Planet Hollywood and finished in 7th for my first Vegas cash of $160. I went back to Planet Hollywood again for the promotional tournament they had at the time where Michael "the Grinder" Mizrachi was the sponsored "house pro" who played in the tournament against everyone. I raped my table very good at first, but I was still learning and I admit, I started feeling invincible which led to me making stupid plays. I ended up getting eliminated in 31st place, which sucked cause they combined the tables after my elimination and moved Michael "the Grinder" Mizrachi to my vacated seat, which was still warm from me sitting on it. I stayed and waited until the next break and spoke to Mizrachi, he was a very nice guy, he was also there with another poker player who had no movement of his arms and had to play poker with his feet and a triangle wooden doorjam to look at his cards. Pretty cool. (Note: Michael Mizrachi is in this year's November 9 for the WSOP Main Event, I'm rooting for him) For 2008 to now, I pretty much only played in free poker tournaments run by bar leagues once or twice a week every week. I made the decision to play free tournaments in bars to gain more experience and to get better at a low cost, and I also wanted to focus more on school without having to worry about losing money playing in poker tournaments. In 2010, I noticed I was consistently beating all my friends, and I was winning money at a decent clip in tournaments and sit-n-goes at Chicago Charitable Games, so when the summer semester ended I decided to treat myself to a $200 buy-in tournament at Horseshoe Hammond and I ended up finishing 4th place out of 83 people and won $1,380, which has been my biggest cash so far and longest poker session of 7 hours and 15 minutes. Now I'm planning on using a portion of my winnings from my 4th place finish to enter the $350 event #13 at the WSOP-Circuit event in October at Horseshoe Hammond. Hopefully I'll do good. I still play free tournaments in bars, I play them to stay sharp and avoid going rusty and practice new tactics. I usually avoid charity tournaments unless they're run by Chicago Charitable Games. If they're charity tournaments played by people involved with the charity, then I avoid them at all costs, because it really sucks to play poker against people that doesn't know how to play poker and shouldn't even be playing in a poker tournament. I know it's kind of scummy of me to say this, but I'm the type of person that would rather take my money and play in a legit casino-run tournament against legit players rather than spend my money to play a poorly-run charity tournament against people who never play poker. To be honest, I never care about the charity, I only care about the poker. Also, I'm not a gambler, I'm a gamer. I love playing poker for free against capable players and it's all about the game to me. Poker tournaments has a survival game element that I love. I can't play cash games because I'm not a gambler and the slow pace of cash games bore me to death. This was pretty much my poker biography :-p. I've always wondered if I was the only serious poker player here on Soxtalk. Anyone else play poker?
  12. I say: "o-p-s" "o-b-p" "era" as a word. "slug" for SLG. "average" for avg "war" for WAR. and whenever I see UZR, I can't help but read it as "user" or something like that.
  13. How about we all come up with variations of the DENNIS system by using our first names? I'll start first: D- Demonstrate Value O- Occupy Physically N- Nurturing Dependence A- Avert Emotionally L- Liven Hope D- Disconnect Entirely Tried to keep it as similar as possible. :
  14. I only put regular Shell gas in my car. Even if I'm low on gas, I'll drive the extra distance to get it filled up at a Shell gas station.
  15. Why is Saltalamachia doing half-leg splits like that? Ain't that kind of like the catcher tipping the pitches?
  16. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5529463 So 4 inches? That's not getting it above his shoulders. There's no reason for me to care if he doesn't follow team policy, so long as management doesn't make a stink. Ugh, I think it's ridiculous that Manny had to trim his signature dreads! >:-O
  17. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) maybe i've just been blocking it out because of its overwhelming lameness. hard to avoid it when the guys on my team, though. the nickname makes me think of ned beatty. and not in a good way. ManRam actually makes me think of ManBearPig. "Half Man... Half Ram, that's why he has dreads, to cover his ram horns." /green
  18. Juuuuust great, juuuuust great. I saw the injury happen, too. It didn't look good.
  19. I don't know why, but it really annoys me when someone has the last name Donald.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Someonneeee's trying to keeeep their jobbbbb. This made me LOL and almost spit food out of my mouth. :
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) that's what they're saying. i'm just saying getting him a flight to CLE so he's there tonight and able to play tomorrow seems like a no-brainer, not that he should play tonight, although that would've been sweet. There's only about a flight an hour leaving LAX for Chicago, then a quick flight to CLE. Maybe Manny was taking a connecting flight from Sydney to LAX to Chicago? Could explain why he didn't show up yet, hopefully he didn't take flight 815. :-/
  22. I'd be in favor in bringing up as many bullpen arms as possible. Do we still have Aquino? How did he do this year? Santeliz is another pitcher I wouldn't mind bringing up just to eat innings. Oh, and Nunez, too.
  23. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Just heard on the Score that he needs Tommy John surgery after the MRI showed a torn UCL. This sucks. we now only have Sale as a lhp out of the pen. Are you serious? I just read in the newspaper that he was only taken out as a precaution. He really has a torn UCL??? This sucks!

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) I work 4 days on, then have 4 days off. My schedule is different every week. I'll be off tomorrow through Saturday, then have to work Sunday through Wednesday next week. I work 12 hour shifts during those 4 days, 6 AM to 6 PM with an unpaid hour lunch break. So I get 44 hours a week. But, since the schedule changes every week, I have two small checks in a row and then two large checks, with 8 hours of OT, in a row. I get paid every two weeks. But I get what amounts to 16 days of paid time off at the start of every year. I've already burned through it for this year because of my son. I get a Christmas bonus every year that escalates by $100 up until it reaches $1,000, which is the maximum anyone gets. This year I get $700, next year $800, then so on. Plus, since I work for a Catholic television network, they give you $1,000 for every baby you have. $2,000 if you have more than one at a time. If both you and your spouse work here, then you each get that baby bonus. Maybe I shouldn't have had a vasectomy. I also get 11 hours of pay on holidays regardless of whether or not I'm actually scheduled to work that day in addition to my regular 11 hours. So, I either get paid double for working holidays, or I just get an extra day of pay during the week of a holiday. My job isn't very stressful at all, it mostly involves killing time. Lastly, I'm on an escalating pay scale to get me to where I make the same money other people who do my job in this market make. I've been guaranteed a $2,500 annual raise over the next 3 years, but my salary target number will go up during that time because I will be hitting 10 consecutive years of service time in January of 2013. Hopefully you won't get traded before you get your 10/5 rights. :-/ /green
