I would like to publicly apologize to Y2HH. I didn't mean to strike a nerve, I just had many bad experiences with cops in my life, such as my own run-ins with the law, my dad getting beat up by cops for nothing, being subjected to unreasonable searches in other states, being harrassed by cops in Oak Lawn cause my name is the same as someone else's, and other stuff. Sorry Y2HH. I didn't mean to be a prick.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) I know a lot of police, and exactly ZERO of them have ever helped another cop cover illegal happenings in their careers, and exactly ZERO of them said they would ever do such a thing. You don't know that. Why would any of them tell YOU whether or not they covered for dirty cops? Why would any of them admit it to you no matter how well you know them? There's dirty cops that would take their indiscretions to the grave with them instead of tarnishing their image to people that idolize them, like you do.

Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
SouthsideDon48 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) Was it over when Houston was 15-30? NO.... It's probably over though. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!?!?!?! In all seriousness, though, I'm in the "it's over" camp. After the disaster of the 2007 season, I still remember the feeling of watching the Sox lose again and again, and that feeling started early this season. It just feels like the Sox dug themselves in a big hole that's becoming increasingly difficult to climb out of due to their own ineptitude and the fact that the Twins are playing strong. I still think Joe Cowley is a douche and that it's ridiculous to think of the White Sox shelling 20 million for Cliff Lee. What is Cowley trying to do? Get his column in the comics page below "Pearls Before Swine"? -
Lillibridge is being called up? Ugh. :-/

QUOTE (Brian @ May 31, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) FYI, the sound effect they used all season swooshing from the island to the ALT was the sound of the Ajira plane at the end that Jack sees before he dies. It was the last sound Jack hears before dieing. Wow, I didn't realize that. Thank you for pointing it out.

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
SouthsideDon48 replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 26, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) One other thing that bugs me about Peavy is how he shakes off a lot of pitches. Watch Buehrle pitch, and you'll see him get the sign and throw the ball. Peavy shakes off pitch after pitch before throwing. Maybe he should start listening to his catchers, especially considering AJ is quite good at calling games. I totally agree with you. It really bugs me how he's shaking off AJ as well. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 26, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) See, this is the difference between the people who liked the finale and those who didn't. Some people like open-ended stories so that they can "decide for themselves" what happened. Others like concrete answers. I am one of the people who enjoy concrete endings. I don't watch a movie or read a book to decide for myself what happens (even if I don't enjoy the way it goes), as I want to know the end to a story. Hmmmmm, maybe that explains why I loved movies like "the Happening" and most of my friends hated it. :-/ Another example is "the Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke. The ending leaves it open to viewers' interpretation over whether Randy the Ram died after he jumped off the turnbuckle in the end. I enjoyed the ambiguous ending.

Anyone want to speculate on what might've happened to the characters that were still alive after Jack died? Here's my guesses: Frank: Probably either retired from flying so he'd never crash again, or started flying local flights within the continental USA. He was in his 50's, so if he lived a full life he probably died between 20-30 years after Jack. Miles: Probably continued doing his ghost-whisperer gig, but didn't scam people anymore. His character was in his late 20's or early 30's, so if he lived a long life, he probably died between 40-50 years after Jack. Richard: Probably resumed his life under the identity he had while he worked for Mittelos Bioscience. Started aging after Jacob died, so if he lived a full life, he probably died 30-40 years after Jack. Kate: Probably helped reunite Claire with Aaron, and maybe stayed in Claire's and Aaron's lives as an aunt figure to Aaron. Probably ended up in a relationship with Sawyer, except they both really belonged to Jack and Juliette respectively, whom they reunited with in the afterlife. If Kate lived a full life, she probably died between 35-45 years after Jack. Sawyer: Probably ended up living an honest life after leaving the island, because everything that happened on the island changed him for the better. He probably had a change of heart and tried to be a father to Clementine except he probably more than likely didn't have a relationship with Clementine's mother. Probably ended up in a relationship with Kate, except they both really belonged to Juliette and Jack respectively, whom they reunited with in the afterlife. If Sawyer lived a full life, he probably died between 30-40 years after Jack. Claire: More than likely was reunited with Aaron, and with the help of Kate she ended up being a great mother. Probably either took Aaron back to Australia or started a new life in Los Angeles with the settlement money from the original Oceanic 815 flight. If she lived a full life, she probably died between 55-65 years after Jack. Rose & Bernard: More than likely lived the rest of their lives on the island. They probably died between 10-20 years after Jack. Desmond: Probably got off the island thanks to Hurley and reunited with Penelope and Charlie and lived happily ever after. If he lived a full life, Desmond probably died between 30-40 years after Jack. Ben: Probably became the next Richard. It's up in the air if he became ageless like Richard and lived a longer life, or just lived a normal life. If he didn't become ageless for a while, he probably lived a full life and died between 30-40 years after Jack, but if he became ageless like Richard then he might've lived for over a hundred years or more after Jack's death. Hurley: Became the new protector after Jack, so it's unknown how long of a reign on the island he had. Jack's reign was probably only for a day, Jacob's reign was for about 2,000 years, and Mother's reign was unknown. If Hurley decided to live a normal life and find a successor before he died, then Hurley probably died 20-30 years after Jack because he might've been a heart attack victim because of how overweight he was. If he decided to have a long reign as Protector, then it's possible he didn't die until as long as 2,000 years after Jack. Ji Yeon: Was probably raised by Sun's parents. Probably never met Jin's father. Probably lived her entire life in Korea, never really knowing her parents. Probably died between 70-80 years after Jack. Walt: Probably lived a full life. Probably lived most of his life in New York City, raised by his grandmother, went to college, had a family of his own, etc. Probably always wondered what happened to his father, Michael. If Walt lived a full life, he probably died between 60-70 years after Jack.

...I'm disappointed. I thought this thread was gonna be about swinger lifestyle clubs.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) The problem is that basically nothing that happened on the island mattered in the whole scheme of things. Yea, but the same can be said about life in general. Not everything really matters.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) I get your point, and I agree there were lots of misses by the writers. But to me the issue with the pregnancy just wasn't all that central to the remaining years of the show. It was just something that happened. It's akin to the healing properties of the island. That was a big issue that never got explained, but so what? It's a mysterious island. I agree. Not everything really mattered in the whole scheme of things.

A lot of people mentioned how "Lost" was a character-driven show, and I gotta say,... that's probably why I enjoyed it so much. Because it felt like we were on an adventure with the characters, we were having the same questions the characters had on their journey, and not everything were fully explained to us the same way things weren't all explained to the characters. The character development is probably why I really liked "Lost", and why I have a hard time enjoying shows like "V" and "24", which seemed like there wasn't enough devoted to the histories of the characters and who they are.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 25, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) Yeah, I found that out the hard way. Crummy neighborhood too. Are there a lot of tattoo parlors in Chicago, because we only saw three listed in the phonebook? The artist was too busy trying to buy bootleg DVD's. He did claim that he did Henry Blanco's and Jason Kendall's tattoos. My Wife got a good tattoo though. Her artist was actually from Birmingham and went to the same college as her. Yea, I heard a lot of bad things about Jade Dragon, that's why I stayed away. Basically from what I read online, Jade Dragon is the type of tattoo shop that takes advantage of the fact that they have an old and popular shop and try to hype it up the shop by hopping onto the novelty of tattooing like they do on tv shows like "Miami Ink", "LA Ink", "Inked", and some other shows. Basically it seems like they hire mediocre tattoo artists and give clients the false illusion that they're good artists just because they work for an "infamous" shop. A lot of stuff I read basically indicates that the tattoo artists there don't really care and actually prefer it if you pick crappy flash off the wall instead of doing custom work. And they overcharge you, too. That's why I stayed away. I think there's lots of shops in Chicago. I got my 2 tattoos from Shred at Shred's Inferno on 63rd street (between Cicero and Pulaski, off of 63rd and Kildare) in the South Side of Chicago, and I was lucky I found this shop, because there's not much stuff online about it. Shred is a great artist, he is also the type that cares about doing great work in a safe, clean, and professional manner instead of getting recognition as a world class artist. Shred cares about the trade and not the fame, and that's awesome. : Also, if anyone cares, Shred did Bulls' Derrick Rose's tattoos. I also know there's a lot of tattoo shops in the south suburbs, a lot of them are way closer to my house, but I ended up choosing Shred as my artist despite the almost 1 hour drive. Other shops in the south suburbs, off the top of my head, are: *Tattoo City in Lockport, Larry Brogan is the owner and their best artist. However, his style wasn't what I was looking for, it was too much of a japanese-inspired style, so I passed him over. The online porfolios of the other artists in the shop also makes me glad I didn't get any of them to do my tattoos and that I shopped around instead. They also do piercings there, and it's a female piercer, so if I ever get my nipples pierced, then I might get it done there, ...yea I'm a masochistic perv, I know. *Native Rituals on Cicero near 147th in Oak Forest, Apparently the owner of this shop once worked at Shred's shop. However, some of the artists' porfolios online were not my style, so I didn't go there. My sister got a lot of piercings from there and they seem to be a good place to get piercings at. *Basement Ink on Cicero south of 159th in Oak Forest. I'm not sure who owns the shop now, since I just checked online and noticed stuff saying "under new ownership" so whatever I'm about to say probably doesn't apply anymore, so people should do their own homework before getting work done at this shop. The former owner used to be Stacy Laycoax, and she did AMAZING work. Before I found Shred, I was gonna have her do my first tatoo because her style was similar to what I was looking for. But when I went in, I found out she was involved in a motorcycle accident and broke her tattooing arm. I didn't want to be one of her first post-injury clients because I worried her linework wouldn't be the same, so I shopped around again. I'm not sure if Stacy Laycoax works there anymore or if she moved on to another shop, but if anyone ever think about having work done I would seriously ask her to show portfolio pictures of her work before and after her injury. West Side Tattoo, Ruby Road off of route 30/Plainfield Road in Joliet. They have a very nice and clean-looking shop, but most of the artists didn't seem to care about me when I went there. They probably didn't take me seriously because I was getting my first tattoo, but one guy did take me seriously, it was Jason Cobb, and I really appreciated it. I paid him to draw up a sketch of what I wanted, but his style was very old-school (like sailor's tattoo style), and it wasn't what I was looking for, so I shopped around. Jason Cobb had a very nice porfolio of work, if anyone is looking for an old-school artist, then I would look him up. Also, some of my friends got tattoo'd here and got great work done. Wolf's Fine Line on Route 30/Plainefield Road in Joliet, one of my friends told me that this guy sucked, so I stayed away. Wolf's Tattoo Shop, Lockport near 159th street. This was the first shop I ever went into, and the owner of the shop was an asshole. He wouldn't listen to me about my ideas and basically treated me like a kid because he knew I was looking to get my first tattoo. He also refused to draw up a sketch (it was a custom design I wanted) even though it's common practice for most tattoo artists to draw up a preliminary sketch for a $50 deposit. He refused to draw up anything unless I got a tattoo that very day, which indicates to me that he probably does mostly flash tattoos and crappy little tiny tattoos for spontaneous customers. Stay away from this guy, however, the last I heard this guy's shop closed down, but I didn't verify it though. Other shops I know of but don't know much about them are: *Firehouse Tattoo: on Harlem Ave near 70th street in, I think, Burbank. *South Side Tattoo: on Harlem near 80th street in, I think, Bridgeview. *Koolsville Tattoo, north of 87th street on Roberts Road in Justice. I went in once to check it out, they seem very clean, but I didn't look at their porfolios too much, so I can't really say much about the artists. *Tattoo Illusions, somewhere on the east side of Roberts Road in Justice. Forgot exactly where it was, but they have a clean-looking shop. Again, I didn't look too much in their porfolios, so I can't say much about this shop, either. *Tattoo Depot, on southwest corner of 79th and Roberts road in Justice. Don't know anything about this shop. *Machine Tattoo, on 111th in Chicago Ridge. Don't know anything about this shop. There's other shops I know of in the city of Chicago itself that I heard have great artists, such as Deluxe Tattoo and Cherry Bomb Tattoo, but I didn't look much else into those shops besides hearsay. All in all, I'm glad I found Shred and got my tattoos done by him, because it's a case of finding the right tattoo artist with the right style I was looking for to carry out the job. And I guess the morale of the story of this post is: Don't settle for the first tattoo shop you go to, or the closest shop to your house. All of the 9 shops I listed from the South Suburbs (minus the ones in Joliet), are very close to where I live and are a very convenient few-minutes drive from my house, but I shopped around until I found the right artist to carry out what I was looking for. So shop around and don't let distance be a factor.

I would really worry about leaving electronics in a hot trunk for days like that, that might do more harm than good. :-/ One of my friends had a similar situation, where he had a camera but had to find a way to store the footage so he can clear up space in the camera so he can film more. What he ended up doing is something you sound like you don't want to do: he lugged his laptop around (well, left it at the hotel) and transferred the data from the computer onto his laptop. :-/ I'm not technology-savvy, but it sounds like it would be a lot easier if you just had one of those cell phones with a camera and internet access so you can send the files from your cell phone to whatever file storage site that allows you to upload mobilly. :-/

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) You live in Iowa. Outside of like Gary and Detroit, anything is "nice". lol, but Gary has one of the best casinos (Majestic Star) in the Chicago area. A "little" crime in Gary aint gonna stop me from going there.

If I were you, I would take I-80 from northwest indiana and get off on the Harlem Ave. North exit, and just drive Harlem ave until you get to palos park. As a person from the area, I always feel taking Harlem and other roads such as LaGrange is faster, but that's cause I've been up and down those roads all my life. Chances are your mapquest directions from Palos Park to downtown Chicago will tell you to take the Eisenhower Expressway from LaGrange road. That sucks, because I actually hate the Eisenhower. I love taking I-57 (from I-80) to I-94 to get downtown, I just like I-57 better, it's just a ncie scenic drive and you get to see all various parts of the city on the way (such as some of the far south suburbs, the awesome run-down appearance of some South Side homes, then the "stretch run" of driving towards downtown with all the skyscrapers in the horizon.)

Thunderbolt, you need to let go, you need to move on.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:45 AM) 6 Seasons of TV were built on these questions, the amount of time spent on Walt and Aaron demands an answer, and instead the Writers chose to have ignore these questions in favor of a metaphysical ending that demands guesswork and conjecture for the plot that drove the show sinces its inception. LOST used to be about plane crash survivors on an mysterious island, it turns out that it was "Chosen Ones" being hunted down and slaughtered by a mysterious being that has no name, and being terrorized by the utter contradiction of a group that served the man whom brought them there and swore to protect them, this man was locked into a blood feud with the being that has no name, who somehow developed the ability to turn into smoke by falling into a Golden Shower, and then tried to destroy the island by removing a magical cork at it's center. If i had been told that description at the start of it all, i probably would have quit before i ever became engrossed. C'mon dude, I think you were being wayyyy too demanding of "Lost". It would not have been the same if they tried to answer everything, sometimes the best way to go is to leave some mysteries that would be up to the viewers' interpretation. Appreciate the story for what it is.
-
I don't know why so many people are complaining about the finale. I loved it. It exceeded my expectations, I thought it was epic. I really loved how the alt turned out to be a purgatory/afterlife, and that a lot of the questions about the island is still left up for interpretations. I was still crying 30 minutes after the finale was over.

I thought "Oz" had a rather disappointing finale.
