QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) And if Carlos is as fragile as people believe him to be something tells me a move to the DH position will not be enough to save him from shattering into hundreds of pieces upon his next catastrophic injury. Hell correct me if I'm wrong but his last 4 injuries (if we are to believe that Carlos hurt himself punching a bat) either took place or were aggravated on the offensive side. Carlos' heel injury can certainly be attributed to this time in the field. It's not insane logic, the less time he's exposed to having to run around, dive, make difficult throws the less stress will be put on his body. I also find it a bit shocking to hear the argument that Carlos is so mentally weak that he needs the distraction of playing the field to, what? Prevent him from killing himself? Because I can't think of many self-destructive things he can do on the bench outside of punching a wall and kicking the s*** out of the Gatorade cooler, and who hasn’t done that from time to time. Carlos said he’s working on his anger issues, and I trust that he can control himself long enough to allow this team to put the optimal defensive lineup in the field.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Three years of being good is excellent for a closer. Usually after five they start to regress. He's only been a closer for one. Set-up man for two. He's just a guy who took some time to figure it out, and relief pitchers are always an erratic position to project.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) I don't know if anyone has been paying attention to Bryce Harper's first go round in Juco Ball but the guy is absolutely mashing. This past weekend he was 7-14 with 4 HR's. What is even more impressive is that he is 2 years younger than anyone else in the league and that it is a "wood bat" league. The guy is further cementing himself as the consensus #1 pick ($$$ aside). Harper is also on pace to shatter practically every offensive record in his respected JUCO's conference. Yep, it looks like him and Jameson Tallion are the fairly obvious first two picks of the draft, at this point.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) Twins have been talking about trading Ben Revere (Top prospect) for Heath Bell. That would give the Padres a bundle of highly athletic Of prospects. That would be a pretty damn big gamble for the Twins given that Bell's been good for only three years, would be moving to the AL, and out of Petco.

No wonder why Brian Anderson could never hit...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) Come on, I am still waiting for the argument that Ed Walsh was not clutch. I still find a lot of Pants Rowlands managerial moves to be questionable as well.

Look, i know Carlos is intense. I know he really gets down on himself, but you can't tell me that the guy is going to have a mental breakdown everytime he strikes out just because he has to sit next to Kotsay, Castro, Nix and Vizquel for 9 innings, as opposed to going out to RF. It's not like he's doing yoga exercises out their anyway.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) And what happens when Jones breaks down physically or Quentin breaks down mentally? In event of the first, we move TCQ to the OF, and then play Kotsay at DH while weighing the options of calling up Flowers or making a trade. In the event of the second, we send the guy to a mental ward because he must be crazy if he can't handle his s*** while sitting on the bench all game.

ST: White Sox @ Braves, 6:05 CT
A lot of of my concerns about this team would be lifted if we moved TCQ to DH and Jones to the OF. It's the more optimal defensive lineup, and would decrease the injury concern that perpetually looms over Quentin's head.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Kanny opening day roster: http://static.newsroom.mlbcontrol.net/docu...ster_040210.pdf Poor Dublar looks like he missed his chance to make an impression for the organization. He's playing behind Miguel Gonzalez now. I also look forward to seeing what Shoemaker does in an extended season.

White Sox Will Be Champions
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) Vizquel I get, but why WOULDN'T we want Pierre at DH if his fielding replacement is Rios/Jones? Juan Pierre isn't actually that terrible of an OF. Our ideal defensive lineup is probably Pierre in LF, Rios in CF, and Jones in RF with TCQ at DH.

2010 Chicago White Sox Spring Training
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Ya, its a very cool nickname. Never heard it till today but I think thats what I want to call him. I still like TCQ. I guess i'm just a sucker for the classics.

White Sox Will Be Champions
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) When your outfield is Jones, Rios and Quentin, your DH is gravy. everyone acts like the outfield is Mackowiak, Dye and Podsednik with Pierre as DH. Right now our opening day DH is Mark Kotsay. I don't think that's gravy, but it's certainly a brownish color.

White Sox Will Be Champions
It's hard not to feel optimistic about a team whose manager was quoted on April 1 as saying, "he could use Vizquel or Juan Pierre occasionally at DH this season,"and was not joking.

2010 Minor League Catch-All Thread
That's a really great rotation. It should be fun year in AAA this year. I also look forward to seeing what Ever strings together for the Barons. He has a lot less talent going into this year, then he did the last.

Where's the game thread???
Knights won. It's going to take me a long time to get past this one... Wait, no. Over it.

No wonder why Brian Anderson could never hit...
This story depresses me for some reason. I guess it has a lot to do with me watching highlights of the blackout game and seeing BA finish it off with the diving catch in center. It's a damn shame he could never put it together.

Where's the game thread???
Tyler Flowers wth a blast to deep center.

MLB Network 30/30: Sox featured tonight
So, the top ten highlights that they made didn't have the Konerko Grand Slam in game 2 of the World Series, or the Pods walk-off. I think either one of those was a bit more important then Carlton Fisk hitting a home run in his debut.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
Just turned on ESPN and saw Thome destroy a pitch to deep center. As you might expect this made me feel great.

Growing Concern About Garcia
QUOTE (The Baconator @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 01:34 AM) Calling Jerry Owens and Josh Fields, circa 2007.... In fairness to Fields he didn't hit all of those 23 homeruns in September.

LOST!!!!
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Walt wasn't that big of a deal and I wouldn't hold your breath about him coming back. I'd move on from it, his story is done. Walt was the most prominent motivating factor behind the end of the first season and the entire second season, How was he not that big of a deal? The kid was painted as being special, so special that the Others blew up a raft and kidnapped him, he got saved, and then went on to be a non-factor for the rest of the series.
