Spring Training Reports
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Joey Gathright did, I see him and Jerry as pretty much the same type of player. Nah, Gathright’s a freak athletically, Owens is just a guy who runs really fast. Both aren’t very good ball players. As for the bench scenario, I think we should go with 12 pitchers. We have enough depth in the organization that this move can be justified, especially because Carrasco, Richard, Russell, and Poreda/Marquez can pitch multiple innings pretty much every time out. Ideally, the bench would go something like Kroege, Stewart, Betemit, Getz, but in reality, I think we’re going to see Stewart, Betemit, Lillibridge, and Anderson. The problem being is that we don’t have a whole lot of pop coming off the bench. In the past, we could bring in a guy like Ross Gload and think we have a decent shot of extra-base hit every once in a while, but the real weakness’ll be trusting Stewart to give us anything offensively.

I'm assuming this is a college paper, if so, doesn't your library have an online research database? You can probably narrow it down from there.

2009 Cubs thread
Last I checked Samardidja was penciled in as the sixth man for the job behind Marshall and followed by Heilman which frankly, isn't a terrible move on the Cubs part. The Shark has almost the same repertoire (and problems) as Aaron Poreda and is certainly their next best option when you consider Marshall's going to have to be Harden's Longman and that there's a 50% chance Heilman will be dreadful. Other then, Mitch Atkins they really have no other realist options in that organization.

Is their anything official to the Whitesox.com depth chart? I always thought it was the people behind the website just making an educated guess.

A guy for AAA or AA...
I really like what Seattle's new GM is doing. I imagine they'll be pretty competitive this year.

More on Wilson here. http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=15735. Yeah, i really wouldn't be averse to us taking a flier on the kid.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) I fear that Fields is going to get a lot of undeserved hatred this season from a LOT of fans because he took Crede's spot. He's going to have to be perfect to gain a decent following. I imagine he'll get more hatred from casual fans then us, but yeah, he's going to have a tough time.

Owens is either our starting CF or the victim of one of the largest smokescreens in history. Also, I don't know for sure, but i believe Brad Salmon tops out at 93 so Viciedo isn't exactly facing a soft tosser.

JOE.CREDE. = Twinkie
This is good news for the White Sox. If Josh Field needed any more motivation to perform, here it is. With the rivalries between these two teams all Fields will have to do is pick up the paper to see the inevitable Crede comparison breathing down his neck, and with the type of personality Fields has this could be exactly what he needs to get his ass in gear.

Dodgers sign Orlando Hudson...
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Huh? Have you seen their projected every day lineup? It's terrible. I imagine that if they get production from Lewis, Rowand, Renteria, Crede and Molina. Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, Johnson, and Zito will take care of the rest.

Winter of '09 television season thread
I'm hoping to see some better ratings for Dollhouse tonight. While the pilot wasn't his best effort, i've heard it only gets better from here on out. Plus, i'll follow Whedon anywhere.

Dodgers sign Orlando Hudson...
Now we're pretty much down to Twins and A's in the O-Cab sweepstakes. Good move for the Dodgers though, but if the Giants get a (somewhat) healthy Crede i'd put them on top with that pitching staff.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) I think the bullpen will struggle with not having Marmol available to get out of those huge jams in the 7th/8th innings, The argument could be made that Marmol is the best set-up man in the League, so yeah, making him the closer is an atrocious decision on the Cubs parts.

2009 Cubs thread
The difference is that the Al Central is going to be much more competetive then the NL Central. The only team that actually improved in that division was the Cubs. As we stand now, the Reds stand a very good chance of taking second place and even then i can't see them going within half a dozen games of the cubs.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Why was Jin in a Dharma suit? Where is Aaron? I suspect it's the same reason why Faraday was in the suit in the opening episode. They've infiltrated the DI.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) I liked the first solo stuff he did after the libertines, but babyshambles I really didn't like. Agreed, their's a clear contrast in quality between his Pre-and-Post Carl Borat songwriting days. Although Delivery and F%^%K Forever are very good songs. I think he still has more hits in him, just gotta hope he lives long enough to write them.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) I have to say, I wasn't that impressed by "Dead Poets Society." Why must Robin Williams always get a scene where he does really quick impressions of people? You’ve just called Robin Williams out on the one thing that made his career. Well played. Seriously, apart from the occasional (decent) dramatic performance (Good Will Hunting, One Hour Photo) the ADHD impression thing is all he has going for him.

Anyone else a fan of Len Kasper? Great knowledge, decent storyteller, good personality, the guy's damn good at his job. I think he and Stoney would actually make a good team., although they'd have to split Play by Play/Color.
