Ryan Pace is drafting a QB. Probably in the 1st round.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 06:43 PM) Too many positions to fill not named "quarterback" and no good quarterback prospects. And before you say "Dak Prescott", know every team passed on him 4 times, including the Cowboys. No good QB's is bulls*** though. I like this year's class. I think Kizer, Trubisky, Watson are all better than Jared Goff and Mahomes might be as well. There isn't a Jameis or Mariota but I think it's a very solid group.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:06 AM) With Bregman understandably off the table, any Q deal would absolutely start with Martes and Tucker...but I agree it would also take more Reed's value is certainly down, but he could be worth a gamble on? I really like Musgrove, but Houston seems unwilling to deal him and Martes Martes/Tucker/Reed/Stubbs would be a package I would consider if Musgrove was taken out I think Musgrove is maybe a #3 starter. Give me Tucker and Martes for sure. Then build the rest around Laureano, Stubbs, Reed, Perez, etc

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Do we get a comp. pick if Frazier walks at the end of the year? We could but it won't be until like after the 2nd round most likely.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 06:25 PM) The headliner still equates to the majority of the value in the deal. I'm not trying to be argumentative...but stop and think what Q's value has been for the last 4 seasons. Now tell me what are the chances Torres ends up giving me that kind of value, projecting him as a 19 year old? MAYBE 25-30%? I kind of feel like it's a double headliner though. It's two top 50 prospects. Francis Martes looks like a TOR starter that is already at AA. Tucker is further away but ahs the potential to be one of these guys deemed untouchable one year from now. Houston has a ton of other high upside types like OF Ramon Laureano and RHP Franklin Perez.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) I have a hard time projecting 19 year old kids, to be honest with you. I totally downplay that. When you look at all the busts and the risks that could happen, especially with high school talent, its just get so freaking hard. We are trading a guy who is, if not elite, damn near elite, and under cost control for a very long time. I just can't justify it when the best guy we get is 19 with plenty of potential reasons for downside. Hell, he put up a .750 OPS in 2016 and in 63 games in 2015, put up a .647 OPS. No matter how good his tools are and how high of a pick he was, I just can't get that warm and fuzzy behind that piece. Remember, Courtney Hawkins put up a .804 OPS in his initial debut and was loaded with "tools". I do admit we are getting two quality pitchers as well...so I'm downplaying those aspects, but we need some dynamic position talent as well and I just don't really get that excited about the proposed package (because the arms aren't that great that it is worth ignoring "need"...if that makes sense). Courtney Hawkins didn't dream of a 70 hit tool.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) I put Tucker ahead of Robles by a decent margin. Really on the level of about Giolito/Kopech in terms of his quality, perhaps a smidge above those two. I'm not saying he'll have this kind of career, because nobody ever really has, but he looks like Ted Williams in the batter's box. I'm not the first person to say that either. Tucker is a fine centerpiece to the deal and gives the Sox a monster corner OF prospect to lean on. I agree. Tucker has like a 70 hit tool. He's the kind of piece that could easily be a top 15 prospect in baseball at this time next year. Martes has TOR potential and could be in 2018 rotation.

White Sox looking to deal Robertson
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) Is that guy reputable? I would think so. He's the Nationals Pre and Post Game host for MASN

White Sox looking to deal Robertson
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) Just hold Robertson. I have a feeling he's got a rack up a ton of garbage time innings where teams just want to go home after already pasting a hapless Sox starter (assuming Q is dealt) and have nearly the same value the Yankees duo had this past season. If Rizzo has malfunction and actually offers Robles for him sure, go ahead and make that deal but barring an unrealistically stupid offer there's no point in dealing Robertson right now. I want to deal Robertson now. Then you let Jones close and dominate and deal him at midseason.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) Not surprised. That extension thing was never for real. He signed a contract extension. Fisher agreed to it in preseason and finally signed it recently.

Interview with Nick Hostetler, Scouting Director
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) Good post. I do want to point out something, though - regarding starting guys like Montas, the White Sox will often have a handful of relief prospects starting in any given season. And the primary reason, I am told, is that they want them to get more reps and more innings to improve their non-fastball repertoires. You'll see them start for a season or two, then go back to the bullpen. Guys who are relievers that are in the system now who did that include Brad Goldberg, Matt Cooper, Brian Clark, Andre Wheeler and more. I know having spoken with some folks that those guys, the club knew there was a 95% chance they were relievers, but put them in that starting internship anyway. One exception - they did this with Chris Bassitt too, but he turned out to be in the 5%. Which is another, smaller reason to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if Diaz is in the starting rotation at Winston Salem. They could fast track him out of the bullpen though. Burdi, Diaz, and Ian Hamilton are all guys that could move really quickly.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) I'd rather have Franklin Perez than Whitely, Perez should be a top ten pitching prospect when the rankings are updated. Franklin Perez is currently their #4 prospect according to the Baseball America most recent update.

Salary Relief
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) It's a good idea in theory, just not sure how realistic it is that it will actually happen. You see it a lot in the NBA, but maybe the stricter luxury tax rules will make it more common in baseball though. I could see something where we get 1 of these overpriced guys back + prospect in exchange for Robertson. Of course we should receive a little extra bump in the prospect package in return for taking on their trash. That way the Dodgers are at least breaking even payroll wise. Robertson for McCarthy, Calhoun, and Sheffield. Or something along those lines. For example, White Sox should be willing to take back Jhonny Peralta in return for Frazier with a better prospect coming back to White Sox. Maybe something like Frazier and a reliever for Carson Kelly, DeJong and Peralta. Sox can play Peralta and trade him at the deadline

Awesome stuff here as always from Brian and Future Sox as a whole. It was good hearing Chris Getz on the radio with Spiegs and Goff last week as well.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Astros number 30 prospect. Not all glove, 50 hit tool with no power. High defensive marks. Severino from Washington is more elite all glove type. I'd target em both... Robertson and Q. According to Baseball America most recent issue, Stubbs is their #10 prospect

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 11:27 PM) I think Jansen signing with the Dodgers and Turner signing elsewhere works out best for the Sox. Robertson can block a deal to LAD, but not MIA. If the Dodgers are desperate for Frazier and the Marlins desperate for Robertson, Hahn could squeeze a nice return out of both teams. I think Robertson ends up in Washington

White Sox win the offseason - again!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) When will they win in season? Check back next decade. This is insane man. They are setting themselves up nicely to be pretty good and fun in 2019.

Assessing the White Sox Future and Hawk's Announcing Future
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) I'd give Benetti two more years...otherwise, I might think about moving him to radio and retiring Farmer. Really? I think Benetti is the voice of the White Sox for the next 20 years unless he leaves.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) I can't see it being Musgrove. I think its either Tucker or Martes, or even both they don't want to move. Don't you think if this was about Musgrove they would have figured this out by now? If you're Luhnow, and Q goes to Colorado, for example, then you're stuck with either Verlander or Archer most likely, and the Rays can bend you over the barrel on Archer. They have to be aware of that and Joe Musgrove isn't worth risking putting yourself in that position over. This is about Tucker and/or Martes. Sox can't really do it without Martes and Tucker

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) I worry that it was just about getting rid of the Laroche fan club that really stood up to management. Notice they were the first 2 to go. Why are you guys still worried about this? They are rebuilding. They want to lose 100 games this year. Hahn clearly said he wants to make 4-5 more trades. Stop worrying.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Any other cynics here think that the "rebuilding idea" and the two trades were just excuses to get rid of "perceived" problems in Sale and Eaton and the Sox are done trading? No chance. I would expect 4-5 more deals.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) Luhnow is a prospect hoarder. I dont see a trade going down with the Astros. He gave up like 5 good prospects for Ken Giles. And Ken Giles isn't taht good.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) Soxtalk, because I care about you, I'm taking a hit for the team and am going to listen to the buster olney podcast for the Nightengale bits on Quintana. I will report back. Nightengale is very confident he gets moved. He thinsk they are determined to trade him but they think as highly of him as they do Sale. He expects up to 7 more players traded. He did mention that White Sox would have the payroll to be very active throughout with the 2018 Free Agent class.

Don't stop now boys
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) I hope you all are right. I have this fear that they think they can still compete by having those 3 start with the team on opening day. If the plan truly is to start all 3 in the minors, it's even more reason to move Frazier, melky, and Robertson now in my opinion. The current market conditions seem very favorable to moving those guys this offseason as soon as Jansen and Turner sign. Plus that frees up money to sign some cheap vets to plug holes with warm bodies. I expect the rotation to be Rodon, Gonzalez, Shields, and 2 free agent fliers. I'm pretty confident after hearing Hahn that Fulmer, Lopez, and Giolito will all start at Charlotte.
