QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) Sale is the linchpin that opens the floodgates. I don't think the rebuild starts unless they're pleased with the offer they get for Sale. Disagree with this. Merkin told me yesterday that he expects some smaller deals to happen soon(ish). I think your impending free agents go regardless of the pitchers.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) From today's Dave Cameron chat: Interesting, (1) hadn't thought about the QO factor for Frazier, and (2) that Red Sox deal sounds like one I'd gladly take for Sale. It's also why when weighing whether to trade him or not, the Sox need something worth 1 year of Frazier plus a late 1st round pick because that's what they'd get if they let him walk.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) What's funny to me is that people are freaking out as if this is some sign that the country has flipped, but really it's the same country with just a minor tweak. If 2-300k more democrats (blacks especially) had voted in Detroit, Milwaukee and Pennsylvania, Clinton still likely wins and no one is talking about White American and the rest of the bulls*** overreaction. Exactly. Trump had 1.1 million fewer votes than McCain in 2008 and 2 million fewer than Romney got in 2012. The problem is: Hillary Clinton got 7 million less votes than Obama got in 2012. It's not a Democrat problem. It was a Hillary Clinton problem.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) Thought that was odd too. Unless he is saying in comparison to Sale. I think he's referencing Quintana's contract rather than the trade haul it would take.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) Though it is hard to argue that Chapman and Miller didn't get their teams to the World Series. Without them, do those teams make it? With Cleveland no way. The Cubs? Maybe? That's probably true. Dodgers should ideally let him walk though and have more guys ready to go that are cheaper. I just don't think the value lines up. Those guys can't be used the way they were used in the playoffs in the regular season unless they are used in way fewer games.

Chapman and Jansen are awesome but paying $90 million + for any reliever that throws 70 innings a year is insane. Create relievers by using failed starters. Trade them when they get expensive. Rinse and repeat.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) If they didn't resign him last winter, they aren't signing him this year. I don't agree. I don't think they will sign him regardless because he's the worst catcher in baseball. He was never going to be back on a team that Robin Ventura managed though.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 06:06 AM) I have a feeling we only get one of the OF and one of the IF and if any other position players come in the deal, they are farther away. And then 2 of their better young arms. I think that Benintendi and Devers is fair. Add SWihart. Plus Kopech and another arm. That probably gets it done.

QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) Hahn wanted Betts ++ No he didn't. That wasn't said anywhere. Betts is already better than Sale is.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 07:26 AM) Arent Long, Wilson, O'Donnell, Leno Jr all Emery regime? I know Long is for sure Jeffery, Long, Wilson, O'Donnell, Leno, Sutton, Washington, Carey, Jones, Fuller are all Emery picks. Might be couple more too.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) Such a dumb rule. Given all the stuff about player safety, I don't really understand why they limit it so much. I would think at least having two spots back would make sense (while freeing up roster spots for others). Is the fear you would just hide people on this IR or something? Yeah that's exactly why. Teams would just IR guys that aren't injured all the time.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) So they think we'll be buyers? No clue. I'd be fine adding Jason Castro regardless for that price. His framing would help pitchers in a rebuild or otherwise.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 04:51 PM) I believe Wilson can come back and it has no impact on Fuller or White, however, for those players who got hurt during the season (and who weren't out all of training camp) and you could only reactivate one of those (with Fuller & White both being in that camp, so the Bears can only pick one). Wilson and McPhee both came off the PUP list. Now in the NFL, you just place people on season ending IR and you have the option to bring one player back. Fuller and White are both eligible. Pace basically said he thinks White will be back by week 13. So yes, Fuller probably misses the year and gets dealt in the offseason.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/2016...redictions.html 29. Jason Castro – White Sox. Two years, $15MM. Castro, a 29-year-old catcher, hasn’t hit much for the Astros since his 2013 All-Star season. As a left-handed batter, Castro has demonstrated particular issues against southpaws. Still, the former first-rounder is one of the game’s better pitch framers and should still serve as a starting catcher somewhere. A three-year deal is possible. The Astros will look to retain him, otherwise the Nationals, White Sox, Braves, Orioles, Angels, Rockies, Rays, and Twins could be interested. 33. Carlos Beltran – White Sox. One year, $14MM. Beltran, 40 in April, raked for 99 games with the Yankees this year but dropped off a bit after a deadline deal to the Rangers. Though he played over 500 innings in right field, Beltran is likely limited to an American League team. The veteran switch-hitter is putting the finishing touches on an illustrious career, and ranks fourth among active players with 421 career home runs. The Rangers could bring him back, or the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Indians, Astros, Royals, Orioles, or White Sox could have interest. A two-year deal is possible, if Beltran wants to commit to it. 39. Boone Logan – White Sox. Two years, $12MM. Logan, 32, signed a three-year, $16.5MM deal with the Rockies after the 2013 season. His first two seasons went poorly, but the lefty finally found success this year. Part of that was a low BABIP, and Logan does have issues with right-handed batters. Still, decent lefty relievers are often at a premium in free agency. The White Sox, Cubs, Blue Jays, Brewers, and Mariners are a few potential options.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) I really thought Fowler had an agreement to not be offered that. He is going to go through the same thing as last off season. Maybe this is just going to be an annual thing with him. Keith Law has him as the #2 overall free agent. He had a .391 OBP. I think he goes off the board pretty early at the Winter Meetings. 4/70 -
White Sox Claim LHP Giovanni Soto off Waivers

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) Makes sense, saw it on twitter and thought it was the catcher. Geovany Soto wouldn't be on waivers though. He's a free agent. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) Sale and Jones for Urias, Ryu, Pederson, De Leon, Bellinger, Verdugo, and Puig I'd do Sale and Jones for: Urias, Bellinger, Verdugo, Calhoun, and Lux in a heartbeat. Dodgers probably wouldn't though.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) IMO, Boston, Texas, Houston, Dodgers, Cubs, Braves, Yankees are the only teams that could offer a good package for either Sale or Q. And some of those would really need to sell their farms. Pirates and Nationals could get it done too

Seems like Qualifying Offers for: Bautista, Encarnacion, Hellickson, Desmond, Fowler, Turner, Jansen, Cespedes, and Neil Walker. Wieters not getting one is interesting. -
I think Hahn has actually tipped his hand a few times already indicating some sort of a rebuild. Here are my off-season plans in order of likelihood. 1. Modified Rebuild. Trade Sale, Robertson, and Melky for sure. Dangle Frazier as well. Sign some free agents to 1 year deals that could be spun later. 2. Add Free Agents without QO's (Castro, Saunders, Lind/Alvarez, Bourjos) etc and sell at the deadline if it doesn't work. 3. Trade Everything now including Sale and Quinatana. 4. Add a ton of payroll and give up a draft pick to do so. I think 1 is most likely. I think Chris Sale is getting traded. I think Melky is getting traded and they'd like to trade David Robertson. Robertson could have more value at midseason though. Frazier could be traded or re-signed. I think Eaton and Quintana will require unattainable packages that don't happen this offseason with 5 and 4 years of respective control left.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) According to Nick Cafardo. Hahn is listening on everyone. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/al-c...p;post-id=76412 This isn't surprising. I expect to hear more chatter this week.
