Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,4469979.story Article: Chicago White Sox left-hander John Danks will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, because of soreness behind his left pitching shoulder. Left-hander Jose Quintana will take Danks' spot in the rotation and will start Friday night against American League Central leader Cleveland. Neither manager Robin Ventura nor Danks believe the injury is serious, and Danks said he thinks he can rejoin the rotation after June 4. Danks said he felt discomfort after his start Saturday against the Cubs, when he threw only 83 pitches in 6 1/3 shutout innings. But he insisted he felt fine until one day after the start, when he had difficulty playing catch. "It’s not my job to question Robin and Coop (pitching coach Don Cooper)," Danks said. "They obviously saw something and there was something to it, I guess." Danks insisted the injury has nothing to do with his 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA. He said he was ready to make his start Friday but decided it was in the best interest to treat his shoulder after talking to general manager Ken Williams and the Sox's training staff. He also underwent an MRI Thursday morning. "It’s in the back of the shoulder," Danks said. "I went and had a MRI this morning. I was feeling different than I normally would. I don’t know. I’m no doctor but I told them I was prepared to pitch tomorrow. I still feel like I probably could, but in talking to Kenny and Robin and (trainer) Herm Schneider, it’s better to be safe than sorry." Quintana threw 5 2/3 innings of one-hit ball in relief in his only major league appearance at Cleveland on May 7.

I still have some hope Mitchell will put together a decent year and move up to AAA by late July or early August. That's just me though.

Things are good, not great, but legitimately good

Upcoming schedule with my personal prediction (Amateur at best): 20 May - @ CUBS Win 22 May - Twins Win 23 May - Twins Win 24 May - Twins Win 25 May - Indians Loss 26 May - Indians Win 27 May - Indians Win 28 May - @ Rays Win 29 May - @ Rays Loss 30 May - @ Rays Win 8-2 mini hot streak with our record being 28-22 and possibly looking at 2nd or 1st. In a perfect world maybe but at least I have optimism that Dunn and Tank plus Paulie will continue to develop a very decent middle of the order. I wish Tank would genuinely learn to take walks and his OBP would be very good. -
Jared Mitchell 2012 - Improvement on the way?
chisoxfan09 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in FutureSox Board
24 games in and leading the Southern in BA (.341) and OBP (.471). Only 21 K's in 82 AB's. Not shabby at all. -
Good article up about some simple analysis between Mitchell's 2011 year and so far in 2012 (Although 90 AB's between ST and Double A is a small smaple size). Let's hope he gets it together to avoid the 1st round bust label. Link: http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago...&feedID=621

Thought this was interesting that the Sox with their 12 picks will have 5.9 million slotted. It shows how little we have spent last year and but I think it is important to invest in the farm. Link: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/...te-bonus-pools/ 2012 Aggregate Bonus Pools Posted Feb. 20, 2012 11:05 am by Jim Callis Filed under: Draft Dope As part of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams are now assigned an aggregate signing bonus pool for their picks in the first 10 rounds of the draft. Each has a predetermined value, from $7.2 million for the No. 1 choice to $125,000 for pick No. 300 and any subsequent . Raul Ibanez has agreed to a contract with the Yankees, all but finalizing the draft order. Derrek Lee is the lone potential compensation free agent remaining on the market, but he won't generate a compensation pick if he signs a minor league deal, as expected. Unless Lee gets a major league contract, the aggregate bonus pools below are set in stone. The pools range from $12,368,200 for the Twins (who own the No. 2 choice and added three selections for the loss of free agents Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel) to $1,645,700 for the Angels (who forfeited their first two picks to sign free agents Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson). The sum of all the pools is $189,903,500, a slight reduction from the $191,876,250 clubs spent on the first 10 rounds of the loaded 2011 draft. Any team that exceeds its bonus pool by 0-5 percent must pay a 75 percent tax on the overage. The penalties escalate, with a 75 percent tax and the loss of a first-round pick for a 5-10 percent overage; a 100 percent tax and the loss of first- and second-rounders for a 10-15 percent overage; and a 100 percent tax and the loss of two first-rounders for an overage of 15 percent or more. Below are the bonus pools for each club, along with how much it spent last year on draft bonuses, both in the first 10 rounds and in total. Rumor? - Cubs deny consider playing at the Cell for 2013

A little off topic but does anyone know what exactly Theo did at Fenway to renovate without seemingly haveing to sacrifice the season? I think he only did some cosmetic refurb work and put some seats on top of the Green Monster, or am I way off? -

I wonder if a hinderance could be the cramped space where Wrigley is located. I mean to set up major renovation work I suppose they could move equipment and materials inside but probably some would need to be set up outside of the stadium as well. Dunno just takin a stab at tryin to understand the impact of shutting it down for a whole year. -

Interesting now that Yahoo Sports is picking up on this rumor also: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...kfq9xE1CCURvLYF Article: It's the question that bubbles up whenever the Chicago Cubs talk about taking the scalpel to Wrigley Field and putting it through the extensive renovation it desperately needs: Just where would the team play if the construction work required shutting the Friendly Confines down for a season? For all the silly talk about making Cubs fans drive 90 miles north to Milwaukee's Miller Park, there's really only one logical option, of course. That would be U.S. Cellular Field, home of the crosstown rival Chicago White Sox and located about a brisk eight-mile jog from the corner of Clark and Addison. There are even some local rumbles that the Cubs are considering taking up residence at The Cell for the 2013 season, though team officials are currently denying that arrangement. There are any number of issues the Cubs have to work through before they even think about subletting somewhere, namely securing some public funding for this work. U.S. Cellular Field (Getty)But as Neil deMause of Field of Schemes speculates, the surfacing of this story could be the Cubs way of floating a "trial balloon" to see how their fans regard the idea of trucking it south for an entire season. I suspect the more practical members of the Cubs' fanbase wouldn't see a problem with taking up residence at U.S. Cellular for a year, especially if it meant returning to retro-fitted comforts of Wrigley the following season. There's also a precedent of such a move working: The Yankees played two seasons at Shea Stadium when old Yankee Stadium was being renovated over 1974 and 1975. The Cubs' fanbase, however, has never been particularly noted for its reasoning skills. Half of the Lincoln Park chad-trixie contingent operates under the (untrue) belief they'll be shot the minute they step off the train at 35th Street while another segment would rather travel to another state for a game than a different neighborhood in the city.* With the Cubs lately drawing a large segment of their attendance from the summer tourist crowd/Iowa tour bus caravan, I'm guessing their totals would crater if Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer don't have a winning product on the field by then. *You probably only understand this paragraph if you live here, folks. And for the rest of you Stewies: No, it does not make any sense at all. Of course, there's also the issue of whether or not South Siders would be down with welcoming Cubs fans to their turf for an entire summer. And to answer that question, a trial balloon won't be necessary at all. (No, they would not.) -

I think the idea of the Cubs playing at the Cell only has legs if they decide to have mercy on that dump on the north side and gut it completely. Can't see them playing at the Cell if they only renovate it in chunks. Anyway it will be interesting to see/hear the building owner's responses hen they are told no income for a year. That will be worth the wait. -

It probably would be Greg but the obvious is obvious. They have to do something to that dump sooner or later, maybe sooner. -

Or for that matter they could talk to the Chicago Park District to see which large diamonds are available. CPD could use the extra cash. -

I've got a great idea. We could start a new thread once we know that they will lease the Cell for the year and nominate the best enforcers of Soxtalk to police the Cell during their home games. Yeah that could work!! :lolhitting -

I could imagine some fans on both sides may ultimately recommend a neutral venue such as Soldiers Field but the turf there is terrible and after a whole season of baseball it old be in worse condition. If the Sox can make moneyon this then why not? No rooftop game views like at Wrigley for that year. LOL -

So, would Ricketts pay a lease to Reinsdorf or the ISFA? And how would consessions from possible Cubs home games be divided up? -
The thing is though even if this is a specific PK thread both Buerhle and Paulie will always be loved in Chicago for the way they played the game. Both are and will always be CLASS ACTS in my book.

Just throwin this out there as far fetched as it may appear to seem initially. Does anyone give any credence to the remote possibility that Mark B. may elect to see what's out and the Cubs come calling with a nice offer (that means he stays in Chicago)?
