  1. DV 3 run blast, yeah baby! Hopefully he is gonna rake, rake, rake, rake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. MGon says Sale is a strong posibility for the starting rotation next year: Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3460021.story Article: By Mark Gonzales, Chicago Tribune reporter 9:05 p.m. CDT, August 27, 2011 SEATTLE — The luxury of having a dominant left-handed reliever like Chris Sale was too attractive for manager Ozzie Guillen to pass up Friday night. But it still appears Sale will join the White Sox rotation in 2012 with Sergio Santos becoming the sole closer. Guillen explained Sale was summoned to close the 4-2 victory because the Mariners had three left-handed hitters scheduled to bat and Santos is only in his second major league season and third as a pitcher. "(Santos) is learning very fast," Guillen said Saturday. "… I don't know for sure. They might move Sale to the rotation, then (Santos) will be the closer." General manager Ken Williams didn't respond to an email sent on Aug. 10 about Sale's role in 2012, but a team source said Sale is likely to join the rotation.
  3. It´s getting harder and harder to watch Dunn whiff on a regular basis. It will never happen but this is why we need a better CBA (Similar to NFL CBA) to avoid getting locked into these ridiculous guaranteed contracts in sports. The majority of athletes that get them don´t deserve them. Just my 2 cents.
  4. It seems to be the other way around, I thought we had been awarded the claim on Thome but it was Kubel. Don't really think the Twins will trade him or let him go but pull him back. Link: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/MLB-Jim...hite-sox-082511 Article: Twins designated hitter Jim Thome was claimed on waivers by the Cleveland Indians, while outfielder Jason Kubel was claimed by the Chicago White Sox, according to major-league sources. The claims do not mean that either player will change teams. The Twins can trade Thome and/or Kubel. They also can keep one or both or allow one or both to leave on a claim. Thome, who holds a full no-trade clause, and can reject any deal. He prefers the Phillies to the Indians, one source said, but it’s doubtful he could circumvent the waiver process to land with Philadelphia. Kubel, meanwhile, is unlikely to be traded, sources said. The Twins likely would offer him arbitration in an attempt to re-sign him, and would want the equivalent of at least a high draft pick in return. The Twins must decide on Thome and Kubel by 1 p.m. ET Friday. The Indians are six games out in the AL Central, the White Sox 61/2 out. But Thome could fit well in Cleveland, and the same is true of Kubel in Chicago. The Indians are without designated hitter Travis Hafner, who is on the disabled list with a strained right foot. The White Sox are missing right fielder Carlos Quentin, who is battling a shoulder problem. The only way for Thome to get to the Phillies would be if the Twins pulled him off trade waivers and placed him on release waivers. Thome could then reject every team that claims him but the Phillies. Such a ploy, however, would require Thome to forfeit the rest of his salary, about $500,000. It also would require the cooperation of the Twins, who would receive nothing in return for their popular slugger. Rival clubs almost certainly would protest such a manipulation of the waiver process. Thome, who recently hit his 600th home run, could even suffer a hit to his image. Kubel, who is owed about $900,000, has talked with the Twins about a possible contract extension. Both he and Thome are eligible for free agency at the end of the season.
  5. Mods, can you merge this thread with SS2K's thread? I didn't see he had one up already about Hahn, sorry.
  6. Is Hahn really considered a sabremetrichead? Didn't think he was and if he isn't then he wouldn't fit the bill that Ricketts is looking for. If he's been responsible for our farm I wouldn't hire him based on that mess.
  7. There has been a mix of rumors of Rick Hahn being pursued by the Flubs. Do you think it would negatively or posiively affect the Sox next year with an FO shakeup? I personally hope it motivate JR to do the right think and at least evaluate all the scenarios to move out KW/Ozzie. It's from Heyman but since he is not a terrible source it might have some merit. Link: https://twitter.com/#!/SI_JonHeyman/sta...523486759034880 Tweet: hearing rick hahn and josh byrnes for cubs gm job. cashman/beane/epstein long shots to go, friedman not 2 likely either
  8. The green font man, you forgot the green font!!
  9. Another shutout coming with double digit whiffs, I've seen this some where before.
  10. When the mess of a team you created is floundering/wallowing in mediocracy then I guess desperate times/circumstances demand desperate measures to save face for this season.
  11. Did they have a worse record than us? Hmmm, they are 70-59, Sox must have not been interested.
  12. New blurb up from Jon Heyman, basically saying what we already suspect that MB won´t retire. Link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writ...ml?eref=writers Around the majors • Mike Jacobs' test for HGH is a big victory or MLB and will likely cause league powers to push harder for testing at the big-league level. "It'd be hard for the union to say testing doesn't work," one management source said. Jacobs, a Rockies minor leaguer with 97 RBIs, became the first U.S. athlete to fail a test for HGH. He said he took it to heal back and knee injuries, a major step for honesty. Insiders say that while steroid use is out, HGH remains a major player in the big leagues. • The Orioles are the second-most improved offensive team in the American League and the bullpen has been OK, but as GM Andy MacPhail admitted, "The starting pitching has really gone backward." About Zach Britton, Jake Arrieta and the disappointing Brian Matusz, MacPhail said, "We've got to get these guys back to where they were before." Some Orioles people believe former pitching coach Mark Connor's early-summer departure was a setback for the staff. • MacPhail wouldn't address his own situation. His contract is up, and some wonder whether he'll opt to return. Some are speculating he may opt out, but he wouldn't tip his hand. MacPhail didn't hint at anything bad, but others have noticed that manager Buck Showalter has gotten close to Peter Angelos. The job of Orioles GM may be the hardest one in baseball. • Mark Buehrle finally lost his streak of not allowing more than three runs in a game in a 4-1 defeat to the Indians. He will be one of the most coveted free agents this winter. He's 32, but as a high 80s thrower and not someone reliant on a big fastball, he may have a lot of years left in him. Previous suggestions he may retire are off base, according to people who know him.
  13. I had hope KW might start to give the farm a little bit more attention but this article really pisses me off. They only spent 2.78 million on the draft but turn a blind eye to Nepotism and let his kids who are busts have starting positions in Class A and above. We need a change of direction when it comes to the farm. Link: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/...on-on-11-draft/ Teams Spend $236 Million On ’11 Draft Posted Aug. 17, 2011 11:17 am by Jim Callis Filed under: Signings MLB teams combined to spend $227,969,050 on draft bonuses in 2011, and a total of $236,019,050 including additional guarantees in major league contracts for Danny Hultzen, Trevor Bauer, Dylan Bundy, Anthony Rendon and Matt Purke. Those are both records, up from $195,782,830 and $201,832,830 in 2010. On the day of the Aug. 15 signing deadline, the clubs spent $132,098,500 in bonuses and a total of $139,098,500 in guarantees. Those are two more new marks, up from $91,155,600 and $97,205,600 in 2010. The Pirates, who gave a record $8 million bonus to No. 1 overall pick Gerrit Cole and set another mark for non-first-rounders by paying $5 million to second-rounder Josh Bell, spent a total of $17,005,700. That obliterated the old bonus standard of $11,927,200 set by the 2010 Nationals. The Nationals didn't relinquish that record without a fight, spending $15,002,100 in bonuses. Additional guarantees to Rendon and Purke bring Washington's overall total to $17,602,100. The record for the most guaranteed money spent in a single draft remains $19,118,604 by the 2009 Nationals, the bulk of which was a $15,107,104 big league contract for No. 1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg. The Royals ($14,066,000), Cubs ($11,954,550) and Diamondbacks ($11,930,000) also surpassed Washington's old bonus record. The Rays ($11,482,900), Mariners ($11,330,500), Padres ($11,020,600), Blue Jays ($10,996,500) and Red Sox ($10,978,700) brought the total of teams spending $10 million or more to 10. Only seven teams previously had topped $10 million in bonus spending, all in the previous three drafts. At the other end of the spectrum, the White Sox ranked last at $2,786,300. The Tigers were the only other team below $3 million at $2,878,700–less than the $3.45 million they paid supplemental first-round pick Nick Castellanos in 2010.
  14. He is a class act, no matter what team he is on. Congrats to him.
  15. What about giving Sale a tryout at starting with 1 or 2 spot starts in September?
  16. Sale will be in demand!! :lolhitting :lolhitting
  17. I wonder if he has gone through waivers yet.
  18. I'll take it, but we are still the cardiac kids.
  19. Anyone up for a good thread discussion on the 2012 pros/cons of moving Sale into a starting spot?
  20. I still advocate keeping Thorton and see what Sale has as far as starter material next year. He might be a perfect 6th starter depending on how the rotation (Winter Meetings) shakes out. It is still quite possible either one of Danks/Floyd get moved in favor of trying to get more innings/starts next year for Zach Stewart and Sale. Plus if Buerhle is re-signed then you have an anchor for the staff again. All big ifs.
  21. BOS, I am of the opinion you keep Thorton and try to develop Sale into the rotation next year.
  22. MGon follwed that up with a good article on Sale. I wish we could put him the rotation next gradually to increase his innings count. It looks like he could develop into a top of the rotation starter if he develops one more plus pitch. Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7504257.story Article: By Mark Gonzales Tribune reporter 9:56 p.m. CDT, August 9, 2011 BALTIMORE - At this point, it doesn't matter whether left-hander Chris Sale is facing left-handed or right-handed hitters in key late-inning situations. Manager Ozzie Guillen has so much confidence in Sale right now that he's keeping him in to pitch for an extended period, no matter who is at the plate and how well they perform against left-handers. That was the case during the Chicago White Sox's 4-3 victory at Baltimore that extended their winning streak to a season-high five games. After Sale induced Chris Davis to hit a feeble pop to second for the second out in the eighth inning, Guillen left Sale in to face right-handed power hitter Mark Reynolds. Sale proceded to throw a wicked slider that froze Reynolds for a called third strike to end the inning. "It’s a pitch I’ve been throwing to lefties a lot," Sale said. "A.J. (Pierzynski) says at night it looks so far out of the strike zone and breaks back in. It’s been working and feeling good, and I’ve been able to throw it for strikes. I have to keep figuring out how to throw it (right-handers)." In the ninth, Guillen let Sale face switch-hitter Matt Wieters, who was batting .326 against left-handers but only .237 against right-handers. Sale, however, struck out Wieters. Guillen said later that he wanted Sale to start the inning so that Josh Bell would have to pinch-hit for left-handed hitter Felix Pie. Although Bell was batting .077 against right-handed batters and .273 against lefties, he hit a routine grounder to shortstop for the second out. "That’s why we kept him there for one more batter," Guillen said. "But it seems like last 1 ½ to 3 weeks, no matter who is at the plate, he’s going to throw strikes. When this kid throws strikes, he’s nasty. His slider is good, his changeup is working better. His fastball is his weapon.”
  23. Sale was quite good and I think he would gotten the save.
