  1. 44th rounder RHP Taylor Thompson has signed http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=6000 Had major control issues at Auburn but went 11-2 with a 1.10 ERA and 142 SO senior year in high school.
  2. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 11:51 PM) I don't see why people are so mad about this trade. To not like it is one thing, but it's surprising to see the type of supreme dislike for it. I highly doubt it will be a trade people will care about in a couple years. It's a good, not great hitting prospect that plays a non-premium position for a middle reliever with the upside of a setup man. It's not the Todd Ritchie trade and it's not going to have a major impact on either franchise. He must be from southsidesox. Allot of those guys complain about every move the sox make.
  3. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) I agree. Passive is the perfect word for what I saw close and late. With a winning run on second, I don't want Swisher up there to walk. The opposition knew it too and struck him out. I'm very happy the Sox will not be paying Swisher's crappy contract. Sure, I wish the Sox could have gotten a better deal for him or not dealt for him at all. But if his crap contract kept the Sox from making future moves, I would have traded him for the Washington Nationals batboy. KW took a shot and it didn't work out. Nick signed for 5 years/$26.75M (2007-11), plus 2012 club option. Crappy contract for him but not for the team he plays for.
  4. Bryan Morgado has not completed his junior year and he doesn't turn 21 until December so how is he draft eligible?
  5. I got this from a Cape Cod blog It seems the sox overdraft these high risk high reward guys just to sign them cheap. Carter and Hudson are good examples.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) JorDanks....what a stud He needs to show more power in my opinion. If he doesn't he'll just be another Ryan Sweeney.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) Seems like a guy that might be able to beat the odds and become a backup Ofer in the bigs. The quote sounds similar to what Maurice Gartell's coach said about him the year he was drafted.
  8. QUOTE (Seymizzle @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) A.J. Casario A five-tool player and excellent pro prospect ... strong left-handed hitter with good speed and ability to hit the ball to the opposite field for power ... outstanding outfielder with one of the strongest throwing arms in the ACC ... hustles every play. That's a quote from the U. Maryland website.
  9. A.J. Casario A five-tool player and excellent pro prospect ... strong left-handed hitter with good speed and ability to hit the ball to the opposite field for power ... outstanding outfielder with one of the strongest throwing arms in the ACC ... hustles every play.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Isn't it pretty pointless following rounds 31-50? It seems like these guys don't even sign anymore. Without the "draft and follow" option anymore, I'm surprised the draft is this long anymore. Sox are drafting a lot of college seniors so they'll most likely sign.
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) Smoak>>>>>>>>>Allen Wallace>>>>Allen IMO Not to mention you should always take the best available prospect in the draft. If you have Smoak and Allen, you trade one for a young SS or pitcher or whatever your need is. Look at what Laporta got the Brewers. With a high first round pick I would almost always draft the best player available based on organizational need. The only exception is if by doing so your passing up on a can't miss player that's exceedingly better that the one you draft. Gordon exhibits the same attributes as Justin at a position the sox organization was in desperate need of. At our draft position just don't see the point of drafting a first baseman when we had a good one already in the system. I personally wanted the sox to draft Aaron Hicks because there is a need for speedy outfielders.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 08:04 AM) i said meh... at the time (and perhaps even still now) I wanted Smoak or Brett Wallace...though now Beckham > Wallace....still not sure about Smoak though Why take Smoak or Wallace when Brandon Allen was having a nice year?
  13. QUOTE (Seymizzle @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Blash is a f-ing steel. steal
  14. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) There goes Blash. Blash is a f-ing steel.
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) I think Allen is too high. He's a very good prospect, but he's still very raw and needs to work on that K:BB ratio. Nevin Griffith, even though he hasn't done much, should be on the list simply because he has more potential then a lot of the guys listed. Also, does Gilmore have an AAP Page yet? I'm gonna have to check in a minute. My quick list would be: 1. Gordon Beckham 2. Dayan Viciedo 3. Tyler Flowers 4. Aaron Poreda 5. Brandon Allen 6. John Shelby 7. Jordan Danks 8. Dan Hudson 9. Dexter Carter 10. Ed Escobar 11. Jose Martinez 12. Brent Morel 13. John Ely 14. Justin Cassel 15. Jack Egbert 16. Jeff Marquez 17. Lance Broadway 18. Jon Link 19. Gregory Infante 20. Steve Upchurch 21. Jon Gilmore 22. Lucas Harrell 23. Tyler Kuhn 24. Nevin Griffith 25. C.J. Retherford _ 26. Cole Armstrong/Donny Lucy 27. David Cook 28. Nathan Jones 29. Stefan Gartrell 30. Charlie Shirek I might of said the same thing about Brandon a couple months ago. However its obvious to everyone now that he's the second best prospect.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) Trying to get info on Cassel's injury but no luck so far. Cassel is on the Knights 7 day DL list.
