QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Will they be playing at Town & Country? LMK when, I will stop by and buy you a beer. Hopefully they oil the lanes. The last 2 months have been like bowling on sandpaper. We bowled one of the ladies teams that came over from the merge, and we had to give them 180 pins in handicap. And to top it off, they all bowled over their average the first two games, meaning we got our butts kicked. We had to have all 5 of us over 200 in game 3 just to win by 30 pins. Yuch. However with 2 weeks left we are still in contention for playoffs. We'll be there practicing a week from today. Tournament is Friday and Saturday.

Does anyone else buy/wear Skechers sneakers? I'm usually a bit picky on my shoes and I don't mind spending a little more on them because I'll wear them until the soles literally fall off. I've been known to keep a pair of shoes for 10 years or more. Anyway I bought a pair last year at a Shopko because they were on sale for like $40 and I happened to like the style and found my size. Two things that are pretty unusual for me unless I'm in an actual shoe store. I wore them as my casual everyday shoe for a few months during the summer. Then one day while I was tying them, one of the loops that holds the shoelace broke. I dealt with it for a little while because I liked the shoes but was never really happy about it. Then I found the exact same shoes at another store but these had memory foam insoles built into the shoe. So I bought a second pair and had been happy with them up until last week when the tongue literally fell right out of the left shoe. It didn't pull out. It didn't come un-stitched. Its like it was never even attached to the shoe at all. Of course the deadline for returning the shoes was about a week ago so I can't even return them. I emailed the company to see if they can do anything about it but as of right now, I think I'm going to stick to paying a little more for a better brand of shoe.

I thought the trailer was ok, but I'm not nearly excited about this movie as I was for Episode XII. I'm a SW fan but not a HUGE fan. Mostly I just stick to the main movies. I've never read any of the books or comics and I've never watched any of the cartoons. Even if they are canon. I'm sure I'll watch this one eventually but I'll likely wait until it's on disc.

So we finished up our Tuesday night league last night. We started the night in second by 4 games but we all came together on the night and actually won all 4. Sadly, the other team gets the tie-breaker because they have a higher total pinfall for the season. I finished the season strong with a 221, 209 & 231. First game was clean. Started with 3 in a row and had no problems picking up my spares. Second game I again started with 3 in a row, then opened up 3 frames in a row. 2 of them were easy single pin spares too. I got another spare in the 7th and then saved my game by getting 4 strikes in a row. Last ball of the 10th I tried switching balls and ended up with a 7 count. The last game I don't remember the details but I think it was clean too. I kinda lost my line but was getting a lot of lucky pin action. Finished the 10th frame by picking up a 10 pin and ending on a strike. Good way to finish the season off. I ended up with a 196.9 average. My wife already found an adult/youth summer league that she wants us to join with two of our kids. There is also a scholarship trio league that my daughter will be on with a couple of the girls from her school. So bowling has pretty much become a year-round sport for us.

QUOTE (StillMissOzzie @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 11:25 PM) Are we talking girls high school bowling tournament? What region are you in? My daughter bowled for Glenbard East 2011-2014. She's not bowling at school now, but I miss the life watching her bowl. SMO Middle school. 7th and 8th grade. HS bowling is done for the year so some of the HS bowlers help coach the younger kids. We just finalized our plans for next weekend for the state tournament in Joliet. Apparently there's a little jealousy from other schools over our bowling program. Our girls have won the state tournament the last 3 years in a row. Somehow our HS athletic director missed the deadline to sign up for it this year and lady that runs our program was hearing about it from other people before she was notified of what was going on. Luckily the girls were still able to get in but they've played hell trying to get the boys in.

Crain's: White Sox sign with Coke after 15-year run with Pepsi

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) DuPage county with 77% pop and 18% soda? I've literally never heard anyone refer to it as "pop" in DuPage, and I work at a restaurant... You must not be listening then. I've never heard anyone refer to it as "soda" in most of the entire midwest. -
I saw one Cubs fan on Facebook yesterday afternoon (before the Cubs even played a single game) trash-talking Cardinals fans because the Cubs were technically ahead in the standings.

Crain's: White Sox sign with Coke after 15-year run with Pepsi

Coke is ok for mixing with rum. Pepsi and/or Mt. Dew are certainly my first choice(s) though. I really love the cherry vanilla Pepsi too. -
Greatest Opening Day Moments in White Sox History
Iwritecode replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That last line should actually read 90 or more games because there's one year where they won exactly 90 games. Anyway, having looked up the records it's amazing how many years the Sox didn't make the playoffs simply because the Yankees were better. Of course that streak of winning seasons stopped right around the time they added the East/West divisions to each league. The Sox have never taken advantage of MLB adding to the number teams that can make it to the playoffs. They've never won the WC and even with a second WC now added, they still haven't managed it. -
My daughter bowled in a tournament Saturday. There were 12 teams from 8 different schools. Our school ended up bringing 3 teams. 4-person teams and they each bowled 6 games total. She ended up with the 2nd highest game and series among the girls. She was only 6 pins away from having the high game and 18 pins from high series. Since they are only allowed to win one individual award, the other girl got the award for high series and she got the award for high game. Her team took first place by over 200 pins and she was the team MVP. Averaged 167 over the 6 games.

Papa John's to become official Pizza of MLB
Iwritecode replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Of the major chains: If I want quick cheap pizza, I'll got to LC. If I want pizza with so much grease that I need 3 plates, I'll go to Pizza Hut. If I want pizza with way to much garlic seasoning on the crust, I'll order Dominos. If I want good pizza, I'll get Papa John's. It's the only place my entire family can really agree on. My wife will even eat it re-heated the next day. And she never eats leftovers. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) this is the crux of my point of view. the casual fans will need incentive, that is done with winning ^^^ That's really all that needs to be said. Casual fans for the most part couldn't care less WHO is on the team or what slogan the marketing department comes up with or which players are on the TV and radio commercials.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) If Cespedes were in RF, it wouldn't really affect attendance at all unless they were winning consistently. Pretty much. We could put the AL all-star team out there everyday but if they only win 70 games nobody is going to want to see them.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) you are not looking at the big picture, you are thinking figuratively and not in the general terms. if the sox wanted to sell more tickets, then they would have gotten a marque player, whether that be a sp or not. but to give the appearance that the sox care about winning and making the fans happy, they do the little things to tweak the team, like signing MG ...... while at the same time keeping looking at the profit margin..... Little things like signing MG is not going to bring in the casual fans. They have no idea who he is and most likely don't care. They just want to see the team win. Die-hard fans like us who might be able to actually pick the guy out of a lineup aren't going to buy tickets because of this signing either.

Well I continue to have good weeks but my teammates have been struggling terribly the past month or so. I had 225, 196, 230 for a 651 series. The problem was that two of my teammates struggled to break 100 and one guy on the other team bowled 40+ pins over his average the first two games. We only won one game, so now we are 4 games back in second place with next week being our last week. The best we can do is tie for first. I don't know if the guys that are currently in first were sandbagging the first half or what but they've been on a tear the past couple of months. They broke 1000 pins in a single game with just 4 guys last night. I'm not liking our chances next week. Whatever. 1st place, 2nd place... It's not a big deal to me. In a couple of years I won't remember where we finished anyway. One more week then it's on to softball season for me.

I was just watching a game the other day where there was a pitch high and tight and the announcers discussed how that used to be just part of the game.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) My company dumped sick days years ago and just threw them in with the rest of the pool. I guess they saw how people were always getting sick or their kids were getting sick at the beginning of the year when they had the sick days, and were remarkably healthy when their supply of those days ran out. We have vacation time and personal time. The only difference between the two is that vacation time can be taken in 4-hour increments and personal time can be taken in 2-hour increments. Either way, they wouldn't care if I took a day off to watch baseball all day. It's my time to use when and how I want. The idea of using "sick" days only when you are actually sick is so antiquated.
-
That's funny because this same thought crossed my mind earlier today as well. I don't completely hate the idea. At least it gives me a chance to watch most of the game instead of simply following it on gamecast.

On every league I've ever been on, the standings were cumulative through the entire season. You start at week 1, bowl until the end and whatever place you're in is where you end up. Apparently the league I'm currently on was run differently last season. They split the season up into 2 halves. So at the mid-point there was a first half winner and all the standings were reset. Then before the end of the season, a second half winner was decided. The second to last week was used as a position round, then the first half winner faced off against the second half winner. Something like that. I'm not sure I understand it enough to explain it properly. Anyway, at the start of the season we voted on it and decided to just go the "normal" way. Somebody last night was complaining about it because according to our schedule, next week was going to be a position round. Which wasn't right. They just forgot to change it. Has anyone else heard of this or done things this way? It's seems like an overly complicated setup and what happens when the same team wins both halves? I like the way were are doing it much better. We get prize money at the end and the difference between finishing in first and last probably won't be all that much anyway.

Well we went and fell out of first place by a game. We started the night tied but only won 3 games. The other team continues their roll and won 4. I'm don't think they've lost more than 2 or 3 games total the last 2 months. One more regular week and then the final week is a position round. I had a decent night. 232, 224, 165. Every time my ball came back it was just dripping with oil and it actually seemed to get worse as the night went on. I started the first game with 6 in a row. Then I left a solid 10 pin and kinda fell off from there. Second game I struggled through first 5 frames but manged a couple more strikes and then struck out in the 10th to save my game. The last game I just lost my line completely. My ball had almost no bite at all on the back end. I was standing a good 10 boards to the right of where I normally stand and throwing it pretty much straight. Of course that's the game the guy on the other team (160 average) decides to bowl a 202. That's hard to beat.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) IMO they could do whatever the hell they want. I will still make fun of how dumb I think it is though. Plus I am of the mind that they won games last year because of their talent not because they had a magician juggle their balls before the game. That last line literally made me LOL.

QUOTE (StillMissOzzie @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:42 PM) I found it. Almost 3 years ago now, I got her a Hammer Jet Black Taboo, which was apparently all that and a bag of chips back then. I saw that it is retired now, so being the ball du jour doesn't carry a lot of weight. It also looked like it was drilled with some side weight, which would help it to hook more. That may be something to ask your pro shop about, particularly if she is learning how to throw a hook. SMO We picked her new ball up Friday night and she bowled with it in a tournament Saturday morning. 201, 189 & 171. She ended up with high game and high series for the girls. She's gonna catch up to me before lomg. FWIW, it's a diva xoxo, not divine like a previously said.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) He didn't have total access. Here is a story about him from last June. Even Conor Gillaspie likes the kid. It stated there were times his access was limited. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0620-story.html There's that quote I was looking for earlier:

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) Maybe legally, but not morally. JR held a press conference after Horace Grant went back on a verbal agreement. He said he lacked character. We still have no idea exactly what was verbally agreed upon. All we know is that KW believes that LaRouche went above and beyond what was agreed.
