What band would you wish to reunite?
QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 08:05 AM) A tour with Hendrix-Beck-Page-Clapton would be amazing. That'll work! If I'm not mistaken, I believe that the last 3, all came out of the same band (At different time periods) in the late 60's from a band called 'The Yardbirds" You're right. First it was Clapton, but he wanted to be a blues purist so he recommended studio work phenom Jimmy Page who didn't want to give up his gig and recommended Beck and later Page joined up with Beck for a short time, then Beck left, Jimmy continued till the band fell apart. And Led Zeppelin was born. Here's the three of them playing an instrumental stairway.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 08:02 AM) i definately think he's breaking through his slump...you know i was thinking....this team is kind of scary...we are 2.5 gms up in 1st and i can't remember a point during this season where the sox have been clicking on all cylinders....we've always had someone a little banged up or key players were in a slump.... if this lineup can get TCQ healthy and he keeps swinging the way he was before the ASB and a resurgent beckham this team is going to be a force the rest of the second half! I got tired of searching for my lost Gordon shirt, so I just bought a new one last night.

Your "All-Time" Favorite Guitar Player
Oh god, from the list of Page, Hendrix, Beck, Skolnick, Slash, Iommi, Satriani, Buckethead, Lifeson, and Zappa, its a crapshoot but if I had to think of one... It'd be Alex Skolnick because of his wide diversity; Jazz Fusion: Metal: Trans-Siberian Orchestra Fun: Edit: For bass, it's Geddy Lee all the way.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 07:43 AM) I could see both Flowers and Dayan go. The Sox will likely re-sign AJ. He's a perfect match for our pitching staff. I just don't see Dayan as a fit going forward, though. The sox don't want to have a below avg. fielder playing a key position, either 3b or 1b. The sox have options at 3b, with Teahen and Morel for 2011. 1b isn't a spot to hide Dayan either. Seeing how many E's PK has saved this year and made all the plays hit at him, a guy has to be able to be solid at 1b. I like Dayan as a DH. Dayan may be a slugger. Yet he's got serious holes in his swing and approach. Teams will learn how to make him chase balls and he will get himself out. Yet with Dunn, the sox can turn those 2 picks into some nice players. The scouting dept. has turned it around, and I have faith that those picks and Dunn's bat for this year, can be better than what Dayan, Flowers, etc could do. I'd probably trust Dayan fielding over Dunn. Plus, Dayan has a mad ceiling for what could be a rental + picks. Flowers, Torres, Short, Morel would probably be my max offer.

What band would you wish to reunite?
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 06:24 AM) This was my first thought as soon as I saw this thread. I'm a huge fan of Queen. Could you imagine if Freddie Mercury was still alive and writing songs today? Their last studio album Innuendo was a glimpse of their music into the 90s. Last studio album when Freddy was a live. Made In Heaven was the last one, but I get what you're saying. The Show Must Go On is one of my all time favorite songs. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 07:22 AM) Here's one for ya! How about a tour with S.R.V. and Hendrix playing together? Styles and personal music choices may clash, but some pretty serious guitar playing would be brought to the audience. There may be some faster guitar players, but nobody can make a guitar "speak" to you in so many different ways and so many different levels than SRV, Hendrix and Jeff Beck. A tour with Hendrix-Beck-Page-Clapton would be amazing.

7/19 Games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 07:15 AM) Part of the reason Flowers is hitting for a low average but walking a lot might be that, at least lately, his lineup "protection" has been Josh Kroeger, who hasn't hit for s*** all year. ! KOTSAY! We have found you a use.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 06:53 AM) Not sure if this was posted. But Scot Gregor heard that it was Dayan plus 2 prospects for Dunn. That sounds more reasonable. Dayan is the kind of player the sox want to move away from: all slugging, no OBP, little plate discipline, below avg. defense. With the sox able to net 2 picks for Dunn [they should offer him arb. as they could have him for 1b or DH if he accepts, which he prob. won't], a deal around Dayan would be nice http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/4414 If the sox added Dunn, it would be at the expense of Kotsay. Kenny could rationalize the move by Kotsay having had every opportunity to hit, both playing 1b and at DH. He hasn't. The sox haven't cut the cord on Kotsay, due to his being a team leader, and have given him more chances to rebound than most contending clubs would have. It's time, esp. if the price is Dayan plus lower level guys [Torres, a bullpen arm, etc]. Putting my Dayan shirt thoughts on hold. Especially since I just bought a new Gordon one (it was time, couldn't find my old one). I'd really like to keep Dayan. Plus, you'd think the Nats would like Flowers more, especially if they plan on Harper in the OF.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 07:11 AM) Could you imagine being a crew member on that ship? This just gave me another thought. GOD WHY DIDN'T THEY RUN OFF THE BOAT YELLING "OH MY GOD SPIDERS SPIDERS SPIDERS PLEASE SAVE US". If I were on that boat, there would be lots and lots of fire, which is not a good thing.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 12:54 AM) Man, I wonder if there was any way possible to get Xavier Henry from Memphis. Or what the price is for Rudy Fernandez. The price for Rudy should be a first & second rounder max. Henry would probably cost us something like the Charlotte Pick (will likely be more valuable then ours) + 3 second rounders Ideally, I'd like to get: Henry + Shaq, if Shaq was handled like in Phoenix and missed like 1 out of every 4 games to rest. Rudy + Shaq would be good too. or Mason Jr. + Thomas would be good.

What Would You Rather Do?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) The problem is that once you get out of our top few guys, we have s*** in the minor league system. It is at a time like this that the big injuries have killed us. Especially since the system seemed like it was finally turning around. Don't forget D2 and Flowers getting their asses kicked at AAA.

I wouldn't give up Hudson (fifth starter), Dayan, or D2 in a Dunn trade. Flowers, Morel, and another piece or two maybe.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 02:05 AM) What would you be willing to give up for DeJesus and Soria? That was the postgame call in show rumor out here, that KC may deal them to the Sox. KC would demand Flowers. What else would you be willing to give up? I think they'll try to rob us blind of 4-5 prospects, maybe even Viciedo with Flowers and 2-3 more. This is Dayton Moore we're talking about so... Flowers-Morel-Torres-Holmberg-Santeliz The Royals need pitching, but I'd be hesitant to deal Huddy if we don't get a fifth starter. If it came down to it, I'd probably bite.

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) That is why he is the GOAT. That was Larry Bird's quote four days ago. This is what these guys the greatest. They would rather beat you then join you. Hell even Kobe has that in him which is why his name is in that discussion as well. (besides the rings) Look at his situation about three years back. He wasn't happy with LA and felt they couldn't put the pieces to win. But did Kobe say hey trade me to Cleveland with LBJ or Miami with Wade? No. He wanted to go to a team with nice pieces, but a place where it was still his team. Where he was still "the man." If Wilt were still around, he would **** LeBron's mom to make his point. Memphis still low-balling Xavier: http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a.../#ixzz0u5mIdX75

Putz for Closer
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 12:27 AM) I will still never understand why Bobby (and the sox brass) felt he needed to be a "true pitcher." He is a closer. This dude has like 6 god damn pitches in his arsenal, that most of the time, aren't needed. Most closers in the game have 2, maybe 3 solid/good/great pitches to get guys out with. (unless your name is Mariano, but he is a freak) He would have been perfectly fine (probably one of the best in the game) if he was still throwing 98+ with that 12 to 6 curve. And if he really wanted to add a third pitch, a change-up would be been more than good enough. You don't need a cutter, slider, sinker, etc.. in your arsenal as a closer. Mariano Rivera throws 1 pitch 9.5 out of 10 times and gets hitters out even when they know it's comming. Billy Wagner had a 99+ mph fastball he threw 8 out of 10 times and a slider. Trevor Hoffman, in his prime, had a 96+ mph fastball and one of the best change-ups this game has ever seen, and when he got old, he had a 85-87 mph fastball and one of the best change-ups this game has ever seen. Ace (sorry, habit) has been the most reasonable poster post-loss, and everything he wrote here is truth.

Putz for Closer
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) I kind of like closer by committee which requires a feel from the manager on who it should be that day. I thought Oz had the feel today when he let Freddy pitch the sixth despite giving up double digit hits through five. Thank god I had a commitment and could only watch the first seven innings. The ninth had to be sick. It amazes me how this division has been the same story every year. The Twins won't ever go away and just have a s*** season. We agree on this.

Putz for Closer
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Now that's a good thread post. I can't argue with that reasonable post. Do you honestly expect our closer, whomever it may be, to save every game? I'm at the point I hope they replace Fat Bobby just so you all will be happy. But I'll never bury him. He's done a good job in helping us get back in the race. Today was really unfortunate. He also was lights out before having to take time off for the family emergency. I'd think after today it'll be closer by committee for a while again. Ok, I'll admit this thread was a knee-jerk reaction. Bobby was very dominate for a while, but he's also had long stretches of horrible. Maybe I should have titled this "Putz for Closer if we have a 2 or 3 run lead"
