QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) There would have to be significant $$ going to PITT and I'm not sure Rick would do that right now. Considerations is a bigtime debate in the offices...almost more than target players right now. I'm sure the longer they wait the less money it would take if the cards make a deal or rios heats up You're the man btw thanks for the constant updates!

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) This package is not gonna happen. Polanco is likely not going anywhere. Rios + Alexei + $$ is gonna get you something like: Josh Bell, Tyler Glasnow & (maybe) Clay Holmes but (more likely) Adrian Sampson. I'd take it

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 07:52 AM) I'd love this deadline if we got Polanco and Owings from Phoenix (for Peavy) Owings is my top target. Idgaf what happens as long as he joins us.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) So if that happens, Peavy pitches well, we could get the same or even more if we package Crain in a deal too. Could get very interesting. And mlbtraderumors says that Rangers are still looking for a right handed hitting bat and still are connect to Rios. Where's bucket? I want to know if there is any new information out there. Peavy is worth more than garza -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) The problem is that the classic buyers aren't really in buyer mode this year - Dodgers have bought enough, Yankees aren't buyers, Angels aren't buyers. Tigers and BoSox could be but they don't really need starters. The Nats will buy when appropriate, but they aren't buying either. Atlanta has been gunshy for years. I think we'll get an idea of what the market looks like when Garza is traded...Cubbies in high Media frenzy to try to get a trade done. My guess is they get a 51-100 prospect for him. If they do better, that should portend well for us. I'd guess something like Peavy, Rios and $10 mill to the Rangers for 2 B prospects and a youngish backup on their ML roster. We might be able to squeeze Olt out of them, as his stock is dropping fast (and he was always overhyped). Crain to someone for a B. That's about it. Peavy = more valuable than Garza

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) Lifetime Achievement Award. Bull s***. He would have won it if the NL won and he didn't pitch

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) I agree with you. Peavy is a more reliable pitcher who is cost friendly and controlled through next year. And are the Cubs really asking for Feliz? That's crazy. Hope to god they get him and Peavy has 3 dominant starts.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 07:25 AM) Olt or bust. He might not make it, but he is close to the show and has the kind of impact potential that could make this rebuild happen in a hot hurry. +1

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 06:05 AM) For all the people pointing out that few players (or none) have had as bad a K rate as Hawkins early in their careers and been successful... how many HS draftees went to A+ their draft year? Were playing there at 18 and 19? Some sure, but very, very few. It is such a small group that, really, the comparisons don't mean a ton. It is also worth pointing out that, as of a few days ago (when we were doing the FS T25 write-up), he had K'd in about 57% of his first 70 PA (until just before his injury), but his rate since then has been about 36% over 150 PA. Just something to keep in mind. 36% is bad, but isn't nearly 57% bad. Being worried about Hawkins makes complete sense. Saying he is a "bust" at this point does not. Probably the best post in this thread. I was lead to believe that the minor leagues were around for players to hone their skills and correct problems such as terrible pitch recognition and swing issues. This dude isn't even 20 and has the skills to be a monster, with a guy like that as long as there is some form of improvement throughout the season (such as the above mentioned drop in K rate) that is good enough reason for me to believe that they are advancing their skills and knowledge. Over the offseason he will probably have extensive video and swing work with some sort of coach and come out much better next year.

When does the 2nd game start? -
QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) I think the sox should hold onto De Aza and move him to LF where his defense plays up as + since June 1st he has put up this line .290/.360/.434 - .794 with 4 HR and 5SB. He is 29 and under control through the remainder of his "prime" he could very well be a 20/20 threat at the top of the order. Keep him. Yeah, De Aza is a guy I would float 4/20-4/24 at and just stick in LF while we rebuild and develop some new outfielders. Maybe he tears it up in the 1st half next year and we can trade him then for better value.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) Rios might be the best outfielder and hitter out on the market. Alexei has been tearing it up as of late. De Aza is also killing the ball. Peavy coming back soon barring his rehab start. Anyone else think we can actually get a decent haul for De Aza and Alexei? I think Alexei is going to bring back some nice prospects and I expect an even better haul from Rios & Peavy, but De Aza is some one I'd rather keep and move lower in the line-up. Stick him in LF and bat him 7th, let him hit .270/.330/.440 with that good power/speed blend, he's cheap now and I don't think we'd get a lot back in a trade TBH.

I don't know if I'm in the minority here but I think this was a really good return for Thornton.

A) 2 young, high upside position players that can start playing immediately (preferably a CF and a SS). B) If Peavy, Rios, Alexei and a few bullpen guys go, at least 3-5 new additions to our top 10 prospect list on top of what I wrote above. (Preferably position players)
