  1. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 12:19 AM) 40 year old Thome is the Twins MVP. He's played inspired baseball since Guillen dissed him a few weeks ago. I'm very happy for him. I wonder if Sox management will get a share of the Twins playoff money. They were just as instrumental as anyone else in the Twins success. What sorry decision-makers they are. The whole situation is sorry, all of it. Anyone who didn't see this coming since the instant the Twins signed Thome was kidding themselves. The personal dis of a 1st ballot HOF'er is so Ozzie and such immensely bad karma. The Sox won't see the playoffs again until all the dysfunctional "family" members are gone. Still, the Twinkies will be eliminated in the first round. Book it.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) That's true, Kite. I wish I lived in Chicago and could get season tix one year and see how I'd feel about the product goin to all the home games. We are mediocre. As a season ticket holder, I can tell you you'd feel sick to your stomach. Mediocre is way too kind. We suck.
  3. Lack of talent is one thing but lack of desire is another. The entire organization should be ashamed, outraged and embarrassed by tonight's pathetic loss to an even more pathetic opponent(they've owned us all season). If they're not willing to try I'm not willing to support them with my money and especially my time. I've been saying it's not over until we're mathematically eliminated, but I was assuming the team still had some interest in winning. We need to put most of this team on craigslist this winter.
  4. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) I hate Mark Kotsay. I'd take Teahen any day. Then you must like to lose. Kotsay is no prize--not by any stretch of the imagination. But Teahen is disastrously ill-equipped, and more importantly, a jinx. And I don't really believe in jinxes.....much. Over on another thread re Teahen someone posted our record with him in the game, and it sucks. He was not "directly" responsible for many of these losses; his mere prescence is enough to cost us games. Our miracle second half turnaround did not start until Teahen went on the DL. Ozzie wisely!?! benched him upon his return, and he was not in the lineup for the winning part of the last road trip. His performance against Detroit speaks for itself. Kotsay, by contrast, is just sort of...there. He doesn't help us nearly as much as he should, but losing is not automatic with him in the lineup. Don't believe in the jinx? Teahen still stinks. Not everyone agrees, but I still believe this is KW's worst signing ever. Most of the other candidates did not have the direct effect on a possible pennant that Teahen has, and he is now untradeable without choking down a big part of his ridiculous three year contract.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) Ozzie said Teahen won't be at 3B until he gets his confidence back. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he won't be there, but how exactly is he going to get his confidence back not playing there? Games and taking a little infield are 2 very different things. Isn't that Ozzie's "diplomatic" way of saying he won't be at third base.....ever again? And if Teahen's as much of a jinx as the numbers earlier in the thread suggest, I'm fine with eating part of his contract if Kenny can't find as big a sucker as he was for this signing + extension?
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) Sale won't be in the bullpen. He'll either be starting with the big league team or starting in the minors. I would be surprised if he's not projected by the Sox to be starting in the majors next season with one of the 5 starting pitchers traded this offseason. I'd love to see him starting in the majors. Great attitude--fearless--and his stuff is eee-lectric.
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Yep the Twins are the better team i hate to say. They beat us when they had to and they haven't lost much since. I just can't see us sweeping a team as hot as them and thats what they will HAVE to do now being 5.5 games back. There is NO WAY Minny loses any ground in Cleveland. They also beat Cleveland and KC early and often. We should have, but did not
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) thank god the Bears are going to be so good, it will ease the pain. But the Hawks drop the puck in a little more than a month. Always entertaining.
  9. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) If you were the manager, would you have sent a message and put Morel in, telling Teahen to sit his horrible defensive ass down? After that second error (which led to 4 runs), I wouldn't have hesitated. I would've pulled him before the next pitch. Will Ozzie even sit him tomorrow? He should, but will he?
  10. The saddest part is we'll never get the last 2 hours 7 minutes back. It has been sucked forever into the black hole of talent and luck that is Mark Teahen. The good news is, the night is young!
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) Except for the fact that it would be a 1-1 game right now.... And let's not forget that Teahan is 0-this series.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) No one answered my question about Teahen's 2nd error. This is a pull baseball special it seems. Yes. Relatively routine DP. Someone should have insisted Teahen keep his broken thumb firmly up his a**.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) Actually, do we really have a lot of faith that JR is going to spend $3 million per year on a GM, because that's what LaRussa's market price is... He coughed it up for our MVP-candidate third baseman. Seriously, JR's clock is ticking, and he's likely fed up with this Season's drama.
  14. Teahen, Wimpy and the Big Hurt. This is like a SNL bit. Mercifully quick at least.
  15. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) Maybe something can be salvaged tonight...like out playoff hopes? But no more starting Korsay and Teahen. If only.....
  16. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Everything changed when Teahen left. Everything changed when Teahen returned. Exactly. Losing him was the best thing that happened to this team all year.
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) bout to be 6-1 pitching on short rest? not so good. Pitching on short rest in front of incompetent defense, not good at all.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) 1. Todd Ritchie for Wells/Fogg/Lowe 2. Any Swisher deal 3. Ray Durham/draft picks for Jon Adkins 4. acquiring the wrong Berry/Barry from the Dodgers because KW spelled the name wrong on the list sent to MLB, I think that was the one where we received the unforgettable Onan Masaoka from LA 5. Billy Koch trade, although we got Cotts out of it...Koch REALLY sucked for us, big time, but he was a "fireballer" after Foulke, lol It's not quite over, but did any of them ever cost us a Division title, this late in the season?
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) Buddy Bell made the recommendation based on his time working with Teahen previously. Supposedly, Teahen would be a better hitter when offered more protection in the line-up. Supposedly, Buddy Bell was going to revolutionize our minor league system. Still waiting on that one. Buddy Bell should know a loser when he sees one. More to the point, so should Ozzie.
  20. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 07:06 PM) Bench Teahen, move Vizquel back to 3rd, and put the Bridge at 2nd until Beckham can play 2nd again. Do it now. Teahen plays, we lose. It never f***ing fails. Two more years of this loser? KW's Worst. Deal. Ever.
  21. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) I love that when people talk about injuries Jake Peavy seems to not come up in the conversation. So true. Haven't thought about him for months. Maybe because he's been injured more than he's played, we don't know what we're missing? He does make EJax look like a real bargain, though.
  22. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) As far as Thome now, many of us are still upset that the Sox decided not to sign him, and seeing him play so well really grinds our gears. Especially since he's doing it for the Twinkies, something many people predicted the moment he he signed there. That is how these things work. If he had signed in any other division it would be much easier to take. This way he has beaten us directly (inexcusable) and indirectly by helping the Twinks win games against other teams. Nevertheless, he gone, and we either need to beat him, not let him beat us, or tip your cap. I do predict that if we are somehow forced to let him bat against us in the deciding game, he will make us pay.
  23. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) Good point. I wasn't looking at it from a defensive standpoint. Unfortunately, Teahen is a good bench guy or occasional DH. The Sox are paying too much for him to be just that. Defense has been one of our strengths this year. And our first big win streak did not start until Teahen got hurt and Omar took over at third. With Teahen in the lineup, we tend to lose. I don't have the numbers, but my gut says they will support this statement Anyway, don't we all have one player we can't stand, just because....and as you point out, the deal was too rich for too long. The fact that he is forced to play because Becks was HBP makes it even worse. Could've been Manny last night, and he's already been hit how many times in the last week?
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Huh? Sorry. It's partly a Teahan thing, for which I should probably seek professional help. As Tony Montana says when they throw his informer/partner out of the helicopter, "I never like him". And not to beat a very dead horse, but it's partly about Thome. Intra-divisional trades seem to come back and bite us, no matter the logic behind them.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Brian Anderson already killed this team enough while he was here. If this season has taught me anything, it's that Sox-killers don't have to be on other teams. And if we make a (usually dumb) deal to acquire a Sox-killer from a divisional rival,he will kill us twice as dead as a member of our team.
