  1. Sooo, Chase totally let me put my hand in his Gold Glove!! How effing cool is that?! hahaha
  2. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) He just gets way too much playing time and I bet it all has to do with McEwing being forced to play him. Not to mention how he was drafted way too early. Even Oney Guillen got way too much playing time back in 2008. The name Josh Shaffer is a four letter word in Birmingham. I looked at the box scores all year and I noticed how often KW Jr. was playing instead of someone like Ozzie Lewis or Kyle Shelton. Both of whom were much more productive and hit around or over .300. Had KW Jr. been active all season, he would've likely played in close to 130 games. That's out of 140. That's way too many. He played in 74 games, while probably being active for about 80. 74 games is about the maximum playing time he should get over a whole year if healthy. That's part time almost exactly. The most galling thing was that when Short went down, KW Jr. was thrust into the leadoff role. Why would any manager put one of the worst hitters for average on the team as a leadoff hitter? Only if he was forced to. Oney claimed that himself earlier this year. Just look at the Dash player stats for 2010 sorted by average, you'll see that KW Jr. had no business hitting anywhere near the top of the order at any point at all. He should have been hitting 8th all the time. He doesn't draw walks, he doesn't steal bases, his season average was .252 and his OPS was .671. There was no excuse for him playing as much as he did nor the place in the batting order. Short should have been put back in the leadoff spot and that be that. Kyle Shelton's numbers alone were vastly better than KW Jr.'s in less games. I see your point Patrick, but we're not talking about just any player, we're talking about a player benefiting from nepotism. I even got the impression from Bren that Chase didn't think much of him either. To paraphrase her, KW Jr. wasn't going to lose playing time to anyone. I don't think I can support him next year if he's in B'ham and playing way too damn much. If he can barely hit .250 in the Carolina League, then it's going to be a steep drop for him next year. Chase doesn't dislike him at all, they were roommates in W-S actually ...nobody likes to see people use who they are to get special treatment though ..especially when they work their asses off to get a lot less.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) Sorry, that's just ridiculous and I don't agree at all. But I regress. I think I've made my point. JPN, scenario, chasefan, I respect your points/opinions. I'll just leave it at that. Chase fan? As cute as that is, I prefer Bren!! ..I wasn't expressing an opinion .. everything I said was fact. You don't have to care about these guys and whether or not they win their titles ..it bothers me none, but for you to imply that Baseball isn't a real job was kinda goofy! These guys work their asses off ..it's not all fun and games. Not only that, they have people all over the country/world critiquing every move they make without the slightest clue of what really goes on in a day of the life of a minor league baseball player. I couldn't work well knowing all that!! LOL These guys are a bunch of bad asses!!
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) Like I said, to each their own. I've never in my baseball fan life given two s***s about whether one of our minor league affiliates actually won or lost a game. All I care about when it comes to the minor leagues are LEGITIMATE prospects, not nice guys (Jeff Bajenaru comes to mind) that have no chance in hell of making it to The Show. I look at this Dash team, and I don't see one guy with a snowball's chance in hell of sniffing Chicago before, I don't know, 2013? If then? And another thing that makes minor league titles worthless is that the elite talent is obviously going to make it to the big leagues at some point during any given year. The elite talent that's leftover usually jumps at least one level during any particular year. So by playoff time you don't even have anything close to the team you started with most of the time. Just a bunch of roster filler and AAAA guys on their last harrahs before it's time to go out and get a real job. I will say you have a point for those that don't live in Chicago. But you have to see where I'm coming from as well. Just because these guys get paid to have fun and do what they love and a lot of people would sacrifice a small child to get to do, does not mean that it's not a real job. They work a lot harder than a lot of people with "real jobs". They have VERY little time for themselves and they work extremely hard every day for 6 months straight, they might get a total of 10 days off if they get sent to a rainy area of the country ...And it's not just b**** work they do all day ..it's working out and other strenuous activity all before playing a 9 inning game ...IF it doesn't go into extra innings ..could go to 20 ..you never know! Then after the season ends they go home and work a normal job too. Some of these guys have everything handed to them, yes, but some of them have to work hard ..harder than a lot of us who have hours free enough to post on Soxtalk each day.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Why stop caring after caring all year long? I spend $1,000 on season tickets every year, I want the Barons to win and go to the playoffs. Those teams have fans, it's easy to say that when you don't live in a minor league town. Those players care and they are part of the organization you are a fan of. Why wouldn't you want them to succeed? Just because the minors are for development, doesn't mean that winning a league title is irrelevant. That's work that the players have put in all year. I understand if you don't care about them winning or losing, but you're basically saying that the minor league teams don't matter and equating them to a glorified practice squad. They wouldn't play competitive games at all or keep records if the teams and leagues weren't legitimate. You're insulting the fans in those cities by saying winning or losing a league title doesn't matter. We don't all live in Chicago.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) For the organization, yeah. I'm talking about you guys. It seems some of you really care if Great Falls or Winston-Salem wins their league title. Like will you order a 2010 Winston-Salem High A championship shirt? Oh my god. I busted out laughing typing that. To each their own. The minor leagues to me are nothing more then for player development. I really care how W-S does n play offs.
  7. Dash win yet another! 10-5 with 12 innings played!!
  8. I'm 25 ..Chase always says I'm 40 because he likes to give me s*** about being his cougar! I'll be 26 in January.
  9. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) I am 28 years old...I am with the program...Waynes World...party time....excellent. You're only a little over 2 years my elder ...why would I ever imply that you are old?! Btw ..SCHWING = the best noise ever invented!
  10. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) Did you just call me Mister like I am some old dude sitting here typing listening to Dave Matthews band and watching Waynes World? Wayne's World is old as s*** ...but, no! I called you Mister like "Hey, she wouldn't call me Mister if I was just the water boy!" duuhhh Shipps ...get with the program!
  11. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) This doesn't count as a "relationship" technically, but I'll post it here anyways. One of my ex girlfriends (I think she was my second longest relationship, my first ever girlfriend in high school though) back in the day just got engaged. I gotta say after I sent my congrats to her, (still good friends) I honestly felt really bummed out (and shocked) hearing about it. No I don't need any advice on how to handle it, (I'm my own advice.. Naw but I'm usually good at handling business and personal stuff through experience, but this is actually new territory for me) but has anyone here had something similar or maybe just a bit different, but the same situation? When I found out that my kids' dad knocked up the daycare teacher he cheated on me with, it hurt to the core. Then I found out they were getting married and I was pissed ..BUT then I remembered that he was a POS and no good for me anyway and that I could do better! I left him for a reason ..Now she's miserable and I love her to pieces ..After all the horrible things I said about her, how ugly I thought she was, the nasty things I wished upon her ..I honestly feel so bad for her now. I know what she's living with and no woman should ever have to endure what I went/she goes through ..Maybe someday she'll come to her senses ..one can only hope!
  12. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) I thought this was kind of funny but I got *crickets* so it makes me think it is more true than funny now. I thought it was funny Mr. ICP ...I just haven't had much time to get on lately!
  13. Just watched a recap of Morrison take a foul tipped line drive to the cheekbone, pretty intense stuff right there. Really puts into perspective how f***ing manly Baseball is ..Gahhh, I LOVE IT!!!
  14. Congrats to Morel on his call up to the Sox! I knew he would be there by the season's end!
  15. So I see on FB that Infante has been called up to the Sox! Congrats to him!
  16. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) You're a poor disciplinarian, Shipps. He has no choice ..he's an engaged man, it's the rules ..he no longer has balls, they are in his fiancee's purse right next to her lip gloss and a tampon. People can say this isn't true, but it is. I know another engaged man ..you can find his nut sack in his fiancee's purse right along with perfume, lotion, lip gloss, lady stuff, keys, 2 sharpies, starbursts, big red chewing gum && my wallet!! hahahahaha ..I only kid ..this NEVER gets to Chase, you guys hear me?!?! I don't want him trying to get his balls back! jk again, jk!
  17. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) Signing off in style. Absolutely! I knew he could do it!
  18. One hell of a night for Blackwood!!
  19. Tonight's Bristol's LAST GAME ..I bet nobody is as excited as I am!! WOO FREAKING HOO!!!
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 06:38 AM) Hence the quotes around the word Oh trust me, I did, indeed, take note of the quotes ..I just wanted to make sure everyone understood! AND also I'd like to point out, that that's not me being conceited AT ALL (I'm the furthest from it) I just know how much that boy loves his baby girl!
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 06:13 AM) If he shows up with numbers like that in A ball next year, he might be worth keeping an eye on. If he's a Dartmouth grad, he's probably a sharp kid, which means he's probably got a good makeup, which makes him slightly more likely to make he most of his talent. Always fun to look for guys that weren't talked about, but who might surprise (there are always a few). He is. Chase said he's the smart, quiet guy on the team. Also a hard worker ..he's on the portly side, ESPECIALLY for a pitcher, but he lost a lot of weight (10-20lbs) this season so he could pitch in more innings in a game. He was the recipient of the big ginormous work out belt that the trainer awards to the guy that works out the hardest. ..(Everyone thought Chase would get it, but Rob's weight loss beat him out! So kudos to Robert Young on letting hard work pay off!!) ..ALSO Congrats to Drew Lee on getting MVP ..he thought he would lose that to Heidenreich since this was Heidi's second season in Bristol and only Lee's first ..Congrats Lee, I guess that's why you wear the #1 Jersey!!
  22. The last time the Pelicans and Dash met in extra innings at Winston-Salem's BB&T Ballpark, they played historic baseball. On May 19, the two teams played the second-longest game in Carolina League history, and Winston-Salem took home a 4-3 victory on a game-winning Chase Blackwood single. Sunday afternoon didn't last as long, but it ended with the same gut-punch feeling for Myrtle Beach. SOO I check my email and I find a link to this story ..pretty effing awesome if you ask me!!!
