I'm so proud of Rick for targeting this dude and doing what it took throughout the yearto make it work. It's moves like this that gets the fan base pumping again he'll create a buzz this winter with this move alone. If he truly has 10-20Mil left to Spend and can get McCann the fans have to show up come April. Could you imagine that young lineup with players easy to bust out like Beckham, Alexi (meh, hopefully with another Cuban B.), Garcia, and Tank. Add in Abreu and McCann plus our roto. Great job rick'ey you got me pumped sir!

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 11:26 PM) Call me silly if you want but McCann, AJ, or bust. I really doubt we have the money for mcCann but if we were to some how sign him I might s*** my pants everyday till opening day, and I wouldn't even care. He's a perfect fit and is young enough could be + production we desperately need. I just don't know if Hahn has it in him. Anyone know if he was asked that at the fan conference call today?

"Our Chuck" with a gem (granted in Cuba but definitely encouraging...) : The White Sox want players with plate discipline. Jose Abreu had 74 walks and 49 strikeouts this season--with 30 HRs and batted .399.

Quick scouting report from bleacher report: If you throw him 90-92 [mph] inside, he gets beat a lot. I don't think he's going to hit a good hard fastball in. But there's a lot of marginal pitching out there. The No. 1 and 2 starters are going to get him out, but he's going to feast on the 3, 4 and 5 guys. That's where he's going to make his money. His swing is thick and sort of stiff. His front arm gets kind of rigid, and it's more a strength swing than a real quick bat. But he's a smart hitter, and he's not just up there swinging out of his butt. He's crafty. I think he'll make the adjustments.

Latest from good Old' JR. Says nothing tonight but seems less optimistic: Abreu update on Thursday Posted by T.R. Sullivan The Rangers are trying to get first baseman Jose Dariel Abreu, who is a free agent after defecting from Cuba. Indications on Thursday night is the White Sox have emerged as the front-runners. But nothing is expected to come down tonight. One source suggested the Rangers had a real shot at Abreu but others suggest that they are not going to be able to land him.

The longer this smoke comes out from unnamed sources the more it's sounds like a negotiating ploy by JDA's agents to milk some more ca$h out of Poppa Jerry.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:16 PM) @JeffPassan Sources: Rangers not expected to sign Cuban 1B Jose Abreu. Won't go to $68M, the size of current six-year offer. Most speculate White Sox. If true, credit it the contract wiz Hahn with the trades this season to make it possible. The kid deserves a lot of credit if he pulls this off. Hopefully he has a few more clogs in his offseason plan. I miss October baseball, well good baseball in general.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) I'm sure there is a continuity plan in place for that sort of thing... No doubt, but this going down on the same day just strikes me as odd. I think this thing sped up today with the Sox accelerating things and it caught Texas off guard and they are making a last ditch effort to nab him. Hopefully albeit to late!

I don't know how the Rangers are even in the position to be bidding today against the Sox with Ryan stepping down. Could be wrong but I really hope this is just some smoke before the prestige of Mr. Abreu signing with The Chicago White Sox

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) http://www.lonestarball.com/2013/10/17/485...gers-jose-abreu Nice, thanks. Hopefully it is announced within the next 24-48 hours and it's comes up roses Good Guys.

QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) @Evan_P_Grant: As interested as #Rangers are in Abreu, I'm hearing White Sox are still expected to get him at $68 million. https://twitter.com/Evan_P_Grant Rangers beat writer I would love for this to be announced after the game as just be over. I really would be giddyif he's the start of the "rebuild".

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) More talk about the Rangers: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/danny-...eu-to-sign-soon Knobler is a guy to keep an eye on, he is always on point and doesn't report until its definite FWIW. This would suck so bad the last time I got this excited only to be sick to my stomach disappointed was when everyone was saying we were going to land Miggy only to lose him to DET, we know how that worked out. I rather have Hahn overpay not to see this guy be a superstar for Texas the next 5-8 years. Please Hahn pleas!!!

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) Oh we did? And how much was it? Hmmm. Someone called that months ago........... People should really start listening to you Rock. Nice call. I'm still waiting to smoke some dank-s till its official. Lol. Really like the potential of him and Garcia for years to come. And if Viciedo can put it together with Gordo, man oh man. Would you all be okay with Paulie coming back in a platoon roll with Dunn at DH and a possible day of for Abreu? Or is that a waste of a bench spot?
-
We have the Cuban "Missle" and "Tank". Pick Abreu's "potential" (for now hopefully) nickname.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) Much needed excitement. For sure the fan base needed this and the FO knew it. If true great move with having Garcia in the fold already. If we can get Grandy and either MCCan or AjP. I would also love to sign Linecum if we trade A young lefty. Awesome start Rick'ey.

Follow up tweet: Rosenthal Abreu’s average annual value of $11.33M will be nearly twice that of Puig’s $6M. Cuban first baseman represented by Praver-Shapiro.
-
Here's Rosenthal's actual tweet: Jose Abreu finalizing terms on six-year, $68M deal. Club expected to be #WhiteSox. Deal will be largest first-time contract for int’l player
-
MLbTr echoing Rosenthal, with finalizing!!!! Cuban slugger Jose Dariel Abreu is "finalizing" a six-year, $68MM deal, likely with the White Sox, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweets.
-
So Hawk has already dubbed Alexi "The Missle" and Viciedo "The Tank" any guesses on Mr. Abreu's nickname? The Cuban Bazooka? The Cuban Librè?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 18m Rios on not being moved at deadline: "I'm cool staying here. I like this place." Of course you are Alex, you've always been "cool" with half ass'n it and looks like the Sox are "cool" with it to. God forbid you have a desire to join a pennant race and try to win a World Series. There's the attitude right there, when PV was asked he wanted a chance to pitch for the playoffs and a ring. I really really dispise this guy

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) Jayson Stark @jaysonst 1m Hearing Dodgers and Twins made last-minute deal. Not a blockbuster. C Drew Butera to Dodgers. No!! Any one but Drew, what a mind F to wrap up this insanely dramatic trade deadline day.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) Just so we can drive people crazy Jon Heyman@JonHeymanCBSthere was a 3-way trade that didnt quite make it at the end. so no more deals from what i hear. #3way Damn, I HATE it when 3-ways don't make it all the way to the end!!

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) This is the reverse of sensible logic. If you think this team is bad then why are other teams supposed to be paying up big for our players? It cant be both. Because our lineup is filled with the same kind of hitters, and although they may blow with us on a different team in a different lineup their talent may actually produce what it's capable of. As an example look at how bad the Red Sox were last year with arguably the best lineup in baseball. Now that Gonzalez is in LA he is playing better. He was right by saying this is a dead ass team who half asses it on a daily basis. The amount of errors alone is all the prove you need the team lacks focus. Personally I think this sends a bad message to the fans who have watched what I call Cubs basbeball all season, that it is okay for players on the Whitesox to play as they have. If for anything else changes should have been made to send a message to the clubhouse that you need to shape up of we'll ship you out.
