  1. I think TX ends up with Mr. Young back, I think it's deadline for the south side
  2. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Hamsterdam threw in a Hader. So that's some Bud for Hoes and a Hader. So who's getting the better deal? Personally I take some Bud over Hoes any day of the week.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) Houston sends Bud to Baltimore for Hoes. ...um I didn't know you could trade a player for Hoes!!! I think that's exactly what the Houston clubhouse needs.
  4. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) From Keith Law.. "What you think of the White Sox' return for Peavy depends largely on what you think of Garcia. I've long held that he's an extra outfielder, or below-average regular, a player with some tools but very little baseball skill or instincts, especially at the plate where he appears to have no plan at all." Surprise suprise! He hates a player the White Sox love! In other news, the sun rose in the East this morning Kieth Law is a Dick Head!!! We could have gotten Mike Trout in a trade and he would find a negative spin on it. I try not to read anything he writes, or anything ESPN writes. Excited to see what Fox One brings to the table, hopefully more balanced sports news. Can't wait to see Urlacher as an analyst.
  5. Article on Bleacher Report grading all the deadline trades was just posted, and the final grades for the Peavy trade is in according to them.... Boston Red Sox: A Detroit Tigers: A+ Chicago White Sox: C
  6. Jordan Danks was recalled from Triple-A more than likely to fill Tekottes spot when we promoted Rienzo. But the more optimistic side of me is hoping this signals the end of Rios.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) The Tigers don't need much offense out of the SS position. That was my point, Detroit added exactly the type of impact player they need to add at the deadline. Igelisas makes and impact with his glove and that's what the Tigers lack up the middle. They are very happy with this move. Ii was just simply pointing out for everyone who is saying that Igelsisas blows he is only 23 and playing in the bigs, hitting over .300. As long as he brings his glove everyday Detroit is more than happy to play him everyday at short whether his bat develops or not.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) Yeah, I agree but my point is the Tigers being inept here opened the door for the Sox to do at least a little better. I don't think the Red Sox were going to back on not getting Peavy if we really pushed for another 10-15 guy in their system. They still would come out far ahead of anyone. Knobler just tweeted one AL East scout said Detroit made the best deal of the deadline so far getting Iglesias. Take that for what it's worth but I doubt Detroit is upset about filling a dire need with a 23-year old elite defender who still has time to develope the bat. Also whether he is slumping or not, he is hitting over .300 in the bigs this year. I feel like this is a win-win-win without knowing what happens in the future with the pieces involved.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Who cares? They also took on $20 million in payroll for next year and a half. That's why they gave up less. Edit: by who cares, I mean, we can only judge this by the package we receive. Because of the process we went through, I'm confident this is the best package we could have gotten while also unloading all the salary. +1 Boom
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) Man, the experts really have differing opinions on Garcia. I just hope the plate discipline improves. If that happens, he's got star potential. Heres a quick and informative writeup on what the sox got back: (Yahoo Sports) To more fully evaluate the returns and costs for each team, we'll take a look at each team individually: Chicago White Sox Players Lost: RHP Jake Peavy Players Received: OF Avisail Garcia, SS Cleulius Rondon, RHP Francelis Montas, RHP Jeffery Wendelken It comes as no great surprise that the White Sox sought to turn Peavy into minor-leaguers that, with different expected arrival times, can inject the big-league club with new life. The big get for the pale hose is Avisail Garcia. He is big at 6-4, 240 pounds but is also an excellent athlete. Garcia is far from a plodder on the bases and is considered a potential 20 steals, 20 home runs player. He has a strong arm and fields well in right field, and has even seen time in center. Shooting from High-A to the majors in 2012, Garcia batted .319 over 23 games late in the season for Detroit. In the ALCS against New York, he was 5-for-11 with 3 RBIs and a stolen base. White Sox general manager Rick Hahn referred to Garcia as a "five-tool player" when discussing the trade, which is not far from the truth. Baseball America rated Garcia the #74 prospect in baseball entering this season; the White Sox had just one player, Courtney Hawkins, rated higher and will likely have none that high entering next season, barring any trades (Garcia now has too many MLB at-bats to qualify as a prospect). Garcia dealt with a minor injury and a slow start with Detroit and has since been posting gaudy numbers in Triple-A: a .382 batting average to go with 5 homers and 23 RBIs over 32 games. Hahn says Garcia will be assigned to Triple-A Charlotte, but he does not seem destined to spend much time there before being ready to play in the majors once again. The rest of the acquisitions are much further from the big leagues and will carry more risk. Rondon is a 19-year-old shortstop that has played in just 36 games in this season and figures to play his first full season next year. With short season Lowell, he has posted a .277 batting average and .328 on-base percentage. Rondon is known to be an excellent defender whose bat has much upside, but he needs just as much development. His ceiling is very high, but his bust potential is also significant. Francellis Montas is another high-upside, high-risk player. Hitting 100 mph with ease, Montas possesses the raw talent to be a front-line big-leaguer. However, that talent is very unrefined. The 20-year-old has battled his control throughout his brief minor-league career and is just beginning to sharpen his offspeed offerings. While his ERA (5.70) is Low-A Greenville has not been impressive, his walks have been manageable and his strikeouts have remained high. In the worst case, he figures to be a player that can transition very successfully into a relief role. Jeffery J.B. Wendelken is another talented righty, though his risk is relatively low given his status as reliever and good production thus far in his career. While he does not boast a fastball like Montas, he is experienced in a relief role and has racked up 10 saves over 64 relief innings in Low-A Greenville. He should have a good chance to move up through the minor leagues given his talent and production. Overall, the White Sox have done well. Avisail Garcia is by far the most intriguing and valuable prospect that has been moved thus far in deadline deals. While he is not perfect, he has a real chance to quickly step into the struggling White Sox offense and become a staple in the middle of their order. The White Sox also increased their return by taking a chance on very young, very talented players in the low minors.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Rios takes so much heat for dogging it when so many MLB players fail to run things out or fail to run hard. It's the single most infuriating thing about baseball The reason Rios takes so much "heat" for dogging it because he is notorious for taking days and plays off. The guy may have the most talent on the entire team and due to his mental strength he's an average player for the majority of his career. When a regular joe schmo sees someone with that much talent making that much money and not give 100% effort fans have every right to get on him. It's not like he is a first time offender. Whether its Alex Rios or the best player to ever play the game if you dog it and take plays off you deserve the criticism that comes your way. IMO there is no defending Rios and they way he has pissed his career away with a lack of effort. And it's evident I'm not the only one with that opinion. That's why the sox got him on waiver for NOThInG. And why if the Sox want to rid themselves of him will have to waive him for NOtHInG too. I hope I'm wrong but it doesn't look good
  12. Latest from MLBtR: By Tim Dierkes [July 31 at 9:35am CST] White Sox right fielder Alex Rios is guaranteed almost $18MM through next year. The latest trade rumors: The White Sox would like to move Rios today, tweets ESPN's Jayson Stark, but it doesn't look promising. The Rangers and Pirates have no more than lukewarm interest, he adds. Rios was watched by a Pirates scout last night, notes Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. The White Sox have scouted the Pirates' farm system thoroughly, he says. Rios left the game in the eighth inning after fouling a pitch off his foot, but the bruise appears minor. Nothing new, get a feeling we will have to watch Rios dog it the rest of the year, barring some miracle in August on a waiver claim.
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:11 PM) Pretty underwhelmed currently. Hoping that changes tomorrow due to what Bucket is alluding. I missed it what was bucket alluding to?
  14. I'm happy with this, we traded an aging injury prone starter with 20 Million left, for a freakish OF who was plugged in down the stretch during a playoff run and performed last year. This year he is taking in AAA and is a guy we can plug in right now. On top of that we got 3 high upside prospects, one who can throw 100 and k/BB rAtio is impressive for a young pitcher, a good defensive SS who is 19 and can turn it around with the bat, and another pitcher who pitches high 90's and was drafted last year. Good work Hahn. Not this trade looks a lot better with Rios gone at the least, if we can move Rameriez as well so be it. We can eat money if needed with the savings from Jake, would love to get another top taken and exciting prospect like AG.
  15. Wendleken scouting report out of draft: According to a major league source, the Red Sox have agreed to terms with right-hander J.B. Wendelken, the team’s 13th round selection in the 2012 draft. While the deal is not yet complete, pending the conclusion of routine procedures (including a physical and drug test), the 19-year-old would join the organization for $100,000. In adding Wendelken, the Red Sox are adding a player from the same program where they had one of their greatest scouting successes in recent years. In 2006, the Red Sox had arguably their best pure scouting pick of the last decade when they selected outfielder Josh Reddick — a South Effingham High School product by way of Middle Georgia Junior College — in the 16th round of the draft. And so, they can be forgiven for going back to the well. In Wendelken, they selected a pitcher who, like Reddick, was coming out of Middle Georgia by way of South Effingham, selecting J.B. Wendelken with their 13th round selection. Wendelken was dominant in 2012, going 7-0 with a 0.20 ERA while striking out 54 and walking eight in 46 innings. He features a fastball that has been described in different reports as topping out at 92-95 mph.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) Garcia and Middlebrooks is a very nice start If we get Garcia, Middlebrooks, and Ranuado I'm beyond satisfied especially if we turn around and trade Alexi and rios
  17. Avasail # 2 prospect for Detroit. 2) Avisail Garcia, OF, Grade B: Crushing Triple-A, .413/.432/.579 in 27 games, but poor strike zone judgment hurt him in the majors, .241/.273/.373 in 83 at-bats with 21 strikeouts and four walks. None of that is a surprise. If we can get him Cecchini and Ranunudo I'm happy
  18. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 13s Exec’s speculation: Peavy to BOS, Iglesias to DET (to cover for Peralta suspension) and A. Garcia to CWS. Just speculation at this time. Expand Well that would blow, there better be way more than that, I swear the last 72 hours have been a roller coaster. Just announce it already please!??
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) Wait, how much do you guys want to bet that Iglesias is going to DETROIT as a replacement for the soon-to-be-suspended Peralta? That would make me happy, Iglesisas really makes me sad the more I read the scouting reports in him, he hit like .200 in Pawtucket. Peavy for a defensive replacement sounds s***ty to me.
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) Alex Speier ‏@alexspeier 1m Sources tell @bradfo & me that Red Sox in advanced talks w/White Sox, Tigers on 3-way deal bringing Peavy to Boston http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/ba...ire-jake-peavy/ … Wat I called it we are getting Avasial Garcia from Detroit with Alexi going to them just watch
  21. Pre Season #12 for Boston prospects here is a scouting rport: (the Of in the Throton trade is #13 btw) 12) Jose Iglesias, SS, Grade C+: His glove is excellent but his bat is so bad that it may be tough to keep him in the lineup anyway. If they are lucky he can be the Cuban Adam Everett and hold a job with positive WAR even with poor hitting. If they aren't lucky, keep in mind that Rey Ordonez had a great glove but couldn't hold the job anyway. This is baseball. Weird s*** happens sometimes. He hit .202/.262/.319 in 33 games for Pawtucket, which is horrendous, then comes up to the majors and hits .343/.391/.428 in 201 at-bats. Yeah, driven by an unsustainable BABIP. I'll be very surprised if he's hitting anything close to this by the time he gets to 600 plate appearances.
  22. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:42 PM) My guess and I hope I'm very wrong is Iglesias, Middlebrooks, Ranaudo. I'd be okay with this but I still think Bradley Jr is involved
