  1. Now this is a mustache. https://twitter.com/Nationals/status/568446...5240448/photo/1
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) Beer, especially craft beers (my personal downfall) are really bad for losing weight. 2-300 calories a bottle. Yep that's my biggest downfall too. My food intake is only around 12,000 calories a week, but add in another 4-5000 in beer and that's the reason I'm overweight.
  3. I really think it's Micah's job to lose. At this point Sanchez may be a little better, but the difference shouldn't be much and because the Sox view Micah Johnson as the future they are going to give him every opportunity to prove himself.
  4. They have five 2005 World Series related giveaways this year and the game I have tickets for is the stupid tailgate flag. That kind of sucks.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) in actuality, this goes back to the 90's. then all was needed was a hitter or better yet, a sp. the FO didn't want to invest, b/c "they didn't have the income of teams that are investing". the sox could've had more than 1 ws ring, if they would have invested. those teams of the 90's were stacked. the only thing that the owners do is put or invest enuf to field a team, to bring in the fans. this policy has cntinued and in 2005 was pure luck and all things going the sox way. earlier in this off season, the FO said the budget it xx amount for the team, b/c of what the sox have avail thru their imcome. this is when i stated to spout out about there hidden salary. how many posters have stated that the sox needed to continue?? to get additional player, even stating 1 yr and out kind of a player?? this whole post was in hopes to pick up beachly. how bout the other post lately of sox getting additional players. is some way, many feel the same way. i have always stated that the owners should be able to make a profit, but at the same time state that they didn't have the income??? isn't that a blatant lie?? or if it is lost among those fans, how bout the FO statement that the fans needs to sign up in order for the sox to spend more, will anyone state that was an warm embrace of the faithful sox fans, to black mail them?? What? In the 1996 offseason the Sox gave out the richest contract in Major League history to the number one bat on the market in Albert Belle so how can you say they didn't invest. They also gave out a fairly large contract to Jaime Navarro that same offseason. To say they wouldn't invest to fill their needs is just flat out wrong.
  6. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) You didn't miss much. The OD tix were priced higher than if you got a 7 game plan. The 7 game Plan had Od tix for $25. The 2 game plan? $35. Hell, a 7 game plan in the cheapies is as low as $55. The 2 game plan upstairs was $40. Not everybody has the time or money for a 7 game plan, myself included. For people like me it was a pretty good offer.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) It's better to use coachspeak than say something like that, but hey, I never complained about Ozzie's brashness, so I'll take it from Robin, too, I guess. His bosses went out and picked up every item on their offseason shopping list, he better say he expects to make the playoffs.
  8. Man, the 2013 pre-injury version of Crain would look great on this team. I always like that guy and don't think he got enough credit for how good he was with the Sox even in 2011,2012. Time with Sox: 12-9, 2.10 ERA, 3.09 FIP, 1.167 WHIP, 2.71 K/BB, 3.5 fWAR in 150 innings.
  9. I think the most I would be willing to go on Samardzija (unless he truly becomes an ace this year) would be around 5/100. I don't think that would get it done. If he leaves in free agency that would still leave us with Sale, Quintana and Rodon as a very solid front 3. Then maybe go and try to sign a mid level guy to a one or two year deal and then by 2016-2017 hopefully 2 of Danish, Montas and Adams will be ready.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) It isn't the Sox fault. WGN is getting out of the sports business. The real problem is MLB's ridiculous blackout rules. I would have no problem paying for MLB.tv if I could get the games on there. Instead I am blacked out nationally from a game that is unavailable to me locally and that makes zero sense. MLB is hurting their product by not allowing my to watch in any way, shape or form unless I want to illegally stream it. They basically promote piracy with their blackout policy.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Regular season too I take it? So if the SOX are on WGN and you don't live in Chicago market, you won't be able to get the game? If so, that blows. I always buy MLB.TV, but obviously like actually watching the games on a TV when I can. I generally steam the games on MLB.TV through my AppleTV so I can at least watch on the big screen but the video quality is only mediocre. Yes, this is the way it will be from now on. Hey at least you can still watch them on MLB.tv. I'm in the Sox market so they are blacked out for me on there, but I am not close enough to Chicago to get the local WGN so I have no way legal way to watch any WCIU/WGN games.
  12. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 12:24 PM) I suggest you go back to agreeing to disagree I suggest you move along to WSI.
  13. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) I have no idea how to explain it to you. Yea the reason you can't explain it is because it is a completely nonsensical bulls*** statement to begin with.
  14. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) Not when they are hot it doesn't. He's hot you play him. He messes up or gets the 0 fer now is the time to put him back on the bench. Don't get hung up on the name, get in tune with the idea. Bench guys are bench guys for a reason. Just because they get a couple hits one game doesn't make them hot or change the fact that they are not starting caliber players. It doesn't make Robin a bad manager because he doesn't give starts to Konerko and his .572 OPS, or L. Garcia and his .399 OPS, or Nieto and .635 OPS just because they have one good game. Starting those guys more than once a week or so would be what makes you a bad manager.
  15. QUOTE (kev211 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) They haven't released single game tickets yet the only way to have opening day tickets as of right now is through this or some sort of season ticket plan. This is just a way to sell tickets to the other games. Yep, this is good for people like me that live nearly 200 miles away. I don't go enough to warrant a season ticket plan so this is a good way for me to make sure I can get the home opener tickets.
  16. Thanks for the link. I got mine. Chose the '05 reunion as the second game.
  17. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) He averaged 3.9 WAR during the span. In addition, for me, the eras are not comparable. But we clearly aren't getting anywhere with this. How do you get 3.9 WAR? If you look at straight per season averages he would have had 4.58 bWAR and 4.64 fWAR, but those are pulled way down because he only played in 109 games in '94 (strike) and 54 games in '97 (injury). That's why I chose WAR per 162 games because it gives a better picture of how good they were on a game to game basis. The good thing about stats like OPS+, wRC+ and WAR is that the era doesn't matter. It is how good you were versus your peers. A 120 wRC+ player is 20% better than league average whether it's 1900 or 2000.
  18. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) And I provided my evidence on why he's not from bref Okay I'll use your link to further my point even more. Robin Ventura peak 10 years (90-99) - #s per 162 games .278/.367/.452/.819, 119 OPS+, 24 HRs, 100 RBIs, 86 BB, 89 Ks, 5.4 fWAR, 6 Gold Gloves Brooks Robinson peak 10 years (62-71) - #s per 162 games .274/.331/.435/.766, 117 OPS+, 21 HRs, 90 RBIs, 53 BB, 59 Ks, 5.7 fWAR, 10 Gold Gloves As you can see, Robin's peak matched up pretty well with Brooks Robinson's. Brooks Robinson was a first ballot Hall of Famer with 90%+ of the vote. The main difference between the two is that Brooks Robinson stayed healthy and played 2896 games, Robin did not and only was able to play 2079 games. Again, I am not saying Robin should be in the Hall of Fame I am just saying that at his best he was as good as a bunch of guys who have been inducted.
  19. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) I understand, you hate Ozzie and love Robin. I have no issues with that even though I totally disagree. Your posts will hold a hell of a lot more weight around here if you include any sort of substance in them instead of interjecting your misguided opinion with out even attempting to make any sort of compelling argument.
  20. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) Who knows. All we do know is he got 7 votes his one shot on the ballot. And unless they do massive rule changes like they have with one other prominent 3b, he ain't getting in with the vets either. Nobody said that Robin should be in the Hall of Fame or that he will ever get in. What I said was that during his peak he performed at a near Hall of Fame level. Which he did as evidenced by the multitude of Gold Gloves and the number of 5+ fWAR seasons. His peaked compared favorably to any number of Hall of Famers, but the main difference was he had a devastating ankle injury at age 29 that progressively worsened as he continued playing and eventually forced to walk with a cane when he finally retired at age 37. Had that injury never occurred, there is no doubt in my mind that Robin would have at least made it into the Hall of Fame discussion as he was a 56.8 fWAR player even with the injury and many state that the Hall of Fame discussion can begin once a player hits 60 fWAR.
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Robin was a helluva player. HOVG for sure. Never had the peak required for a serious HOF case but was a good player for the better part of a decade and a useful player almost his entire career. I think if Robin would have played in this day and age with the way we look at advanced stats, he would be a superstar. The guy played great defense, had good power, struck out at better than average rates, walked a ton, and during his peak hit roughly 25% better than league average and was a 5.5 fWAR player. That would make him roughly a top 10-15 position player in all of baseball.
  22. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/venturo01.shtml I'm not sure I can even take you seriously anymore. I've just begun using my account and you've already identified yourself as a fan boy. Sure you don't want to follow a different team? I'm not even sure what this is supposed to mean. You're the one defending a horrendous manager in Ozzie Guillen and I'm the fan boy? Did you take a look at the link you posted? Because if you did I don't think you understand what you were looking at. When I look at the page what I see is a guy who had averaged 23 HRs, 96 RBIs, and 5.1 fWAR per 162 with the Sox and had a slash of .274/.365/.440/.805. He also won 5 Gold Gloves with the Sox. A multi Gold Glove winning third basemen that puts up those kind offensive is a near Hall of Fame. Me saying that is not being a fan boy, it's just me knowing what the hell I'm talking about. FYI, career fWAR/162 games (Robin vs the 5 most recent HOF electees and Jeter) Ron Santo - 5.12 Frank Thomas - 5.05 Barry Larkin - 5.02 Robin Ventura - 4.43 Roberto Alomar - 4.35 Derek Jeter - 4.33 Craig Biggio - 3.70 Robin lines up pretty well with these guys when you look at their overall value.
  23. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Stats do not make a player an icon. Actually he wasn't. His antics was reaching new heights, but he was still doing a good job handling the managerial part (at least compared to Robin) and an even greater job controlling the media away from his players. What more can a player do besides perform on the field? Robin performed at a near Hall of Fame level in his ten years with the Sox. He also helped lead them to one ALCS and another season in which they had as good of shot of anybody of winning the World Series if they didn't strike. Ozzie and the media was an absolute circus. He repeatedly threw players and his GM under the bus, trashed departing players and gave inside info to his sons which was leaked to the media on numerous occasions. The guy was an absolute joke.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) LMAO not only is this completely unprovable, but it is very likely WRONG. Yost made so many bad moves along the way, it is amazing that the Royals got as far as they did I agree, Yost is not a good manager. I follow the Brewers as my second team and half the time he seemed like he didn't have a clue what he was doing when he was there.
  25. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 08:50 AM) I don't see Robin as an icon at all. I'd look at: Ozzie right away. Takes all the pressure of the media upon himself instead of the media hounding the players. If you don't see Robin as a Sox icon you would be dead wrong. He has the 6th highest fWAR of any Sox player position player. Well ahead of Baines, Konerko, Fisk and Aparicio all of whom have or will have their numbers retired. I just for the life of me cannot understand how anybody could want Ozzie back. By the end of his tenure he was an absolutely horrible manager, worse than Ventura has ever been.
