  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Sonny Gray pulled himself from the game because he pitched Sunday. Why do that instead of just showing up and not pitching??? Remember when Pujols trashed LaRussa for not playing him in an All star game??? I have no problem that Sale didn't pitch. But why not let him stay home and send another White Sox pitcher to tha game?? Robertson would have pitched for example. I bet Sale really wanted to pitch once he got there. Sonny Gray did not "pull" himself from the game. MLB rules dictate that any pitcher who started the Sunday before the All Star break are ineligible and are replaced on the team. Because Sale was an eligible pitcher and did not have an injury, he was not replaced. There are always way more pitchers than are needed. You guys are really making a mountain out of a mole hill. I mean it's the All Star Game, who gives a f*** whether a player from your team plays or not. What are we, seven years old?
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) Can someone remind me how to use the ignore feature again? I can't read this crap anymore. Click on the person you want to ignore's user name. On their profile page there is a drop down menu that says options. Click on that and then click ignore user.
  3. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 07:31 AM) You could be right, but not according to Harold Reynolds. He said every player thinks it is great to make the team but you really want to play. I wonder what Sale really though as he sat watching There are two huge differences between Reynolds and Sale. First, Reynolds made just 2 All Star games so of course he wanted to play. Sale has already made 4 and has pitched in 3. It doesn't quite mean the same as a guy who's getting there for the first time. Second, Sale is a pitcher. There is a big difference between warming up and pitching an inning versus playing the field for an inning and maybe taking 1 at bat.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) Considering that every single season Sale has pitched as a starter, he has missed some amount of time due to a minor arm injury, even if he isn't having any pain, it isn't a bad idea to give him breaks whenever possible, especially around a game that means nothing. Yeah, I said it Bud. The All-Star game means nothing. And considering the near universal sentiment was that Chris Sale was a Tommy John waiting to happen when he was drafted, I would give the White Sox a whole lot of credit for being 4 seasons and nearly 700 IP into his starting career with no major problems. I think once interleague play started in '97, the All Star Game became irrelevant. The whole point of it was to take the best from each league and give them a chance to play against each other and for fans to see players from the other league that they normally wouldn't. Now that the leagues play each other anyways, it's pretty pointless.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:49 AM) He's Mr. White Sox. He was our treasure ever since he was playing until his death. I think the four who made it are deserving for reasons I listed. How can you argue with a Hall of Famer, Mr. Near 3000 hits; Mr Home Run King and Minnie? Again no offense to the old timers nobody but Sox historian zealots like us have heard of, but I like the more modern foursome that was selected. You should only be taking into account their White Sox careers otherwise you open up a huge can of worms by making people like Griffey, Allen and a whole slew of others qualify. So let's get his name right and call him "Mr. 1773 Hits".
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) I wouldn't call it embarrassing. You've got Thomas, a Hall of Famer. Baines, who was pretty damn good with 2,866 hits, Konerko the Sox all time career home run leader and Minoso, who it goes without saying is the face of our franchise. I like the list. I'm sure the old, old timers who got overlooked would tip their caps to these four as well. Konerko is NOT the White Sox all time home run leader. When you look at some of the players the White Sox have had, Konerko and Baines do not belong on this list. Here's a list of the White Sox all time fWAR leaders just to show how far down Baines and Konerko are. There are 10 Hall of Famers ahead of them. How again are they amongst the 4 best players this franchise has had? 1. Luke Appling - 72.7 (HOF) 2. Frank Thomas - 68.1 (HOF) 3. Eddie Collins - 64.6 (HOF) 4. Red Faber - 54.7 (HOF) 5. Ted Lyons - 54.6 (HOF) 6. Billy Pierce - 51.0 7. Ed Walsh - 49.2 (HOF) 8. Nellie Fox - 43.2 (HOF) 9. Minnie Minoso - 41.8 10. Mark Buehrle - 40.1 11. Robin Ventura - 39.2 12. Eddie Cicotte - 38.6 13. Wilbur Wood - 36.6 14. Fielder Jones - 32.3 15. Sherm Lollar - 32.1 16. George Davis - 32.0 (HOF) 17. Luis Aparicio - 32.0 (HOF) 18. Carlton Fisk - 30.1 (HOF) 19. Thornton Lee - 27.7 20. Joe Horlen - 27.3 21. Joe Jackson - 27.0 22. Gary Peters - 26.6 23. Jack McDowell - 26.1 24. Tommy John - 25.1 25. Doc White - 25.0 26. Harold Baines - 24.5 27. Willie Kamm - 23.7 28. Paul Konerko - 23.6
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Thomas, Walsh, Lyons, Appling Just because people weren't there for the past doesn't mean it should be ignored. Swap Lyons for Collins and thats my list as well.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) I hope Sale is so pissed at Cooper and Ventura for making a big deal out of this. He should be FURIOUS. He knows his body. This team is four under and KC 18 over. Yeah that's sure a big series coming up ... NOT. Sale should be so mad at this joke of an organization. Pitching Saturday then Tuesday is a big deal??? Why not just shut him down a month so he doesn't get hurt? Do you need an aspirin or something?
  9. This whole timed homerun derby thing is about the most ridiculous idea MLB has come up with in awhile.
  10. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...x-all-star-game Sale may be pushed back to the Cardinals series as Robin and Yost have agreed that he will pitch one inning in the All Start game.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) You may want to look up Uribe's stats since his departure. He's been pretty good the vast majority of the time since he left. Not that I'm agreeing with Greg that the Sox should have kept him the last 7 years but he has been a very solid player. He battled injuries and had down years in 2011 and 2012, but the other 5 seasons since he's been gone he has put up fWARs of 2.8, 2.8, 5.0, 3.6 and 2.0 (projected this season).
  12. Flowers sat for three straight games from June 16-18. It seemed to me like the Sox were going to switch and have Soto be the everyday catcher. Maybe that was the wake up call Flowers needed. Since June 19 .346/.433/.808, 4 HR, 6 RBI, 3 BB, 6 K The Sox catchers have gotten a lot of grief this year and their wRC+ and fWARs leave something to be desired, but they have provided 11 HRs and 32 RBIs through 76 games.
  13. In a little bit of '05 nostalgia for ya, AJ Pierzynski and Juan Uribe hit back to back homers for the Braves tonight.
  14. Mark Buehrle with another great start today. 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K. After a very poor start to the year in which he had a 6.75 ERA and 1.928 WHIP through his first 5 starts he has really turned it around and is having a typical Buehrle season. 2015 Totals: 9-4, 3.64 ERA, 1.194 WHIP, 106.1 IP, 9.06 H/9, 1.69 BB/9, 4.82 K/9, 2.85 K/BB Last 11 starts: 6-2, 2.53 ERA, .932 WHIP, 78.1 IP, 6.89 H/9, 1.49 BB/9, 5.28 K/9, 3.54 K/BB Pretty damn good for a guy that tops out at 86 MPH.
  15. Baseball reference uses 1000 IP as it's qualifier for career rate statistics. Sale should reach the 1000 IP mark sometime around the All-Star break next year. When he does, if his numbers stay where they're at, and they could improve as he keeps getting better and better, his all time ranks will be incredibly impressive in quite a few categories. As a reference to how close he is to the all time leaders in these categories, I'll list the top 4 and then Sale's rank. WHIP 1. Addie Joss - 0.9678 2. Ed Walsh - 0.9996 3. Mariano Rivera - 1.0003 4. John Ward - 1.0435 5. Chris Sale - 1.0539 H/9 1. Nolan Ryan - 6.56 2. Sandy Koufax - 6.79 3. Clayton Kershaw - 6.79 4. Sid Fernandez - 6.85 18. Chris Sale - 7.23 K/9 1. Randy Johnson - 10.61 2. Kerry Wood - 10.32 3. Chris Sale - 10.2 4. Pedro Martinez - 10.04 5. Max Scherzer - 9.68 K/BB 1. Tommy Bond - 5.04 2. Chris Sale - 4.50 3. Curt Schilling - 4.38 4. Pedro Martinez - 4.15 5. Mariano Rivera - 4.10 ERA+ 1. Mariano Rivera - 205 2. Pedro Martinez - 154 3. Jim Devlin - 150 4. Clayton Kershaw - 149 6. Chris Sale - 147 That's pretty damn impressive for a guy who I think still hasn't peaked. Barring any health issues, I don't think there's any doubt we are watching the making's of a Hall of Famer. After last night's game, he is now on pace for 305 strikeouts this season. Nobody reaches the 300 K mark anymore.
  16. Though it hasn't translated to a lot of runs, the offense has a nice .296/.357/.397 slash line the past 5 games. Hopefully it's a sign the offense is turning around. If they keep hitting like that, the runs will eventually follow.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) economically my idea probably wouldn't be cost effective. i would have coaches on each team at each level coaching. teaming the fundamentals. repetition, repetition, repetition. keep on going over, over. just keep drilling the fundamentals. but that is me. I am incredibly confused by this post.
  18. I hate this thread so much every year. It's June 22 and there are 94 games left in the season. Do we really need a thread in which supposed White Sox fans are openly rooting for their team to lose? You point out that they are just 6.5 games back from getting the #1 pick. Well you know what? They are also just 6.5 games back in the wild card race. I would much rather root for that instead. If it were the end of August or beginning of September it would be one thing. One nice two week stretch of baseball gets them right back in the thick of things and I haven't given up hope yet.
  19. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) Ya, but they havent been checking tickets all year on 100 level, so why buy a lower when you can buy a s***ty upper for $5 and walk right up to the first row down either line? I bet you ask for a water cup and fill it up with pop at McDonald's too.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) Why is LaRoche not facing a righty? Where do you expect him to play? Or do you really want to pull Abreu out of the lineup?
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) On the other hand ... Mr. Negativity checking in here. Crain wasn't good in his last stint with the Sox Do you ever bother to fact check yourself before you make ridiculous statements such as this? That statement could not be further from the truth.
  22. All right I'll try my hand at a game thread for the first time this year. I imagine not a lot of folks in Chicago will be watching this one.
  23. In case there is anybody who is unaware of this rule or doesn't understand it, here is a link to the official MLB rule book http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/offic...es/batter_6.jsp Under rule 6.10, section (b) "The Designated Hitter may be used defensively, continuing to bat in the same position in the batting order, but the pitcher must then bat in the place of the substituted defensive player, unless more than one substitution is made, and the manager then must designate their spots in the batting order."
  24. I have a feeling that this will be Rodon's breakthrough game tonight. I'm thinking 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K.
