  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) Can anyone recommend a good record player? I see a bunch of different Crosleys sold in a lot of places and their reviews seem to be pretty good and they are pretty reasonably priced. The best reviews I have seen on RP's seem to be the Audio Technica brand. This is the one I have. It's a really good price for what you get. http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP...hnica+turntable It has a built in pre-amp so you don't have to go messing around buying one of those and worrying about grounding it and everything and is basically modeled after Technics turntables 4-5 times its cost. I have a rather modest collection of around 300 records but some of which have a lot of value. I put my Neil Young collection alone in the $3000-$3500 range. Not one of my records (other than dollar bin fillers) will ever see a needle from a Crosley player. The biggest problem with most of the Crosleys that people buy is that they do not have counterweight adjustments on the tone arm or an anti-skate adjustment. These two features are crucial when switch between 140, 180 or even 220 gram records. The cheap plastic tone arm on most Crosleys will just slide all over the place on a 220 gram record.
  2. Maybe the call up of TT was the kick in the ass that Avi needed to get going.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) Except they are just 2 games under .500 and 3.5 GB on the 2nd WC. And traded away their number 1 starter.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) Not only that but if they want Cespedes back next season, he has to be on another team. They could always work out an extension before the end of the year.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) It's hard to believe that Cespedes won't move when the Tigers moved Price and Cespedes won't return a draft pick. Yep. You would think within those last few minutes they would accept just about anything because there's no reason to hang onto him. Something is better than nothing.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Sort of looks like we'll go to battle with what we got, which I am fine with. Orrrr is it just the calm before the storm...? A lot of time left. Usually a bit of a rush right before the deadline with some deals not even being announced until after the deadline. Remember the deal just has to be submitted by the deadline, not announced.
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 12:00 PM) I'm just young enough (and started being a big fan late enough) to miss almost the entire Frank Thomas era unfortunately, especially his best years. That's too bad. More than likely, the Sox will never have another hitter as dominant as Frank.
  8. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) The #WhiteSox would love to add a bat, but unless they move position player off their 25 man roster, they have no room. https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/627189253835862016 Yea, they're definitely not this dumb. It's pretty easy to figure out. You send Leury down, keep Bonifacio on the DL for a month until the rosters expand September 1.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) Room on the uniform for his number for the rest of the year? I'm sure they'll find room. In 2012 they had patches for both Kevin Hickey and Moose Skowron on one sleeve.
  10. I'm kind of advocating for trading Samardzija AND adding a bat. I think the addition of an impact bat benefits our club more than the substitution of EJ for Samardzija hurts us. Even with EJ, that pitching staff is good enough to compete. If they worked a good 3 team deal basically swapping Samardzija for a bat, they would basically be giving up the compensatory pick for a two month rental. I think they would be willing to do that.
  11. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) Of course we should. A player who hits AND plays defense is better than one who only hits. DHs absolutely deserve to be penalized for being awful at something. I kind of agree with both of you. Yes, a player that plays good defense is more valuable, but a player should not be penalized for not contributing something that is not a requirement of the position. That's his point. If they don't penalize pitchers for not hitting (not a requirement of the position), why should they penalize DH's for not fielding (not a requirement of the position)?
  12. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) Depends on what would it would take. Is Milwaukee looking to move him? I think Milwaukee would basically give him away if they could. He's a shell of his former self, about to hit the normal age of decline and is owed $100 million over the next 5 years.
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) What's a normal age to start following a team as a die-hard? I'm 25 but my first season following the White Sox all the way through was the 2004 team. I guess I was a late bloomer. I've been a White Sox fan since I got a Frank Thomas Topps rookie as a 6-7 year old. A kid a couple years older that I knew said that he was supposed to be a pretty good player so I became a Frank fan and naturally a White Sox fan.
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Can't argue with the year he's having though . He's been pounding the ball. And if the Sox can get him for peanuts and no Shark he's perfect to get a lot of AB's as a PH and DH against lefties. Sox do need a bat and that's what he is. Surprisingly Toronto still might want to keep him since he's been great there. Toronto lacks depth in the outfield. Their rookie 2nd baseman has a sore shoulder and Bautista a troubling hamstring. They're still looking for pitching and position players. He pounded the ball for about 25 games. Since June 1st he's had a .273/.313/.424 slash. That's basically league average. He also may be the worst defensive outfielder in baseball. He is definitely not the answer. Unless of course the question is "name me a s***ty baseball player?"
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) It's possible. Toronto is overloaded with bats Maybe Shark for Chris Colabello . He probably makes Avi look like a good fielder though I haven't checked. Hitting.312 .839 OPS .900 against RH's . Is 31, journeyman mostly ,having career year . Equally good against righties and lefties batting average the same . Doesn't walk much but 132 OPS+. As you suggested it's possible still to win without Shark but maybe Toronto would still like him or might want something else for Colabello. If we trade Shark though an extra reliever might be good too considering Johnson most likely won't pitch late into games like Shark. Keep Shark and still get Colabello then could try Johnson in the 5 spot and move Danks to long relief. Have Danks start once in a while to limit Johnson's and Rodon's innings. Also it helps Toronto even more who is our competitor for the WC. And giving up Colabello without Shark seems unlikely unless they want a few B level prospects to restock their farm a bit after the trades they already made giving up their prospects. Shark for a 31 year old journeyman outfielder? I think I'll pass. Colabello's stats only look good because he had a hot May. He's put up .752 and .714 OPS's in June and July. He also makes Avi look like a Gold Glover. To show just how horrendous his fielding is, he is a negative fWAR player this year despite his 131 wRC+.
  16. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) Always have an outside shot at keeping him (if his contract allows it. His is a complex one.) He'll price himself right of out of the Sox range. I think the chances of them extending him would be practically zero.
  17. Yea, if the Sox made him a qualifying offer, he wouldn't hesitate to accept it. I think if they don't feel that some combination of Johnson, Sanchez and Anderson isn't ready to handle 2B and SS next year, they will pick up the option. If not, they will buy him out.
  18. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) McCutchen singled to right, Ishikawa scored, Decker to second, Decker to third McCutchen to second on throwing error by right fielder Rosario.McCutchen and Decker scored on error by third baseman Núñez. The good old little league homerun. I'm sure we all had a few of those back in our younger days.
  19. The Royals are getting stomped by the horribly slumping Indians. Hopefully that sends KC into a tailspin and the Sox can come back and take the division. Yea, wishful thinking I know.
  20. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) Tampa Bay loses!! Let's go Pirates! So the Sox are a half game back of TB, but are actually two up on them in the more important loss column.
  21. Should have been titled "The Cubs-White Sox Trade That Would Cost Rick Hahn His Job".
  22. Looks like Roidy McRoider is shutting the Pirates down pretty good today.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) ok i am back, sorry for the delay... ok where are we. a 6 man rotation implies a 6 man rotation with pitchers, whether they are the same or not. it is the lack of fully defining all the parts that will be use to define that phrase. whom the names of the 6 man is the unknown. furthermore, for this discussion, i am using 1. sale 2. shark 3. Q 4. rodon 5. danks 6. EJ barring any problems, coop and rv can use all in that order or use 5 or the 6 in any particular week. it give flexibility to the team to use who they can. furthermore keeping into account whether rodon is on a pitch restriction or whether to skip danks or any unforeseen situation that may pop up. again, i am saying it gives the coach options to use for immediate use. I'm done arguing this with you. You are wrong on your definition of a 6 man rotation whether you accept it or not. Again, if you are using 6 starters, you are taking starts away from Sale, Q and Shark. They are not going to do that.
  24. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:22 AM) Lol. I honestly would be excited about that even if he's a scum bag. But the Yanks are in it and no way giving up A-rod. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) I actually think they would trade him. I think they would be willing to trade him, but being a 10/5 player he does have full no trade protection and I kind of doubt he would want to leave the Yankees this season.
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) I would def be interested depending on the trade package, but more importantly how much money is he still owed? With KW it wouldn't suprise me, we all know Kenny gets his guy. A god awful amount. Roughly $47 million guaranteed through 2017 along with a potential $24 million more for hitting milestone homeruns ($6 million each for numbers 714, 755, 762 & 763).
