QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Anyone who is that good at what they do thinks they're better than everyone, I've never seen a problem with anyone thinking that way. And she fight's everyone she can. Not her fault her division sucks or that some people can't cut weight/like roids. If she was so great she would put on weight to fight Cyborg, but she won't do it because she knows it would be her first real challenge. She'd rather just sit back and fight accountants and collect her checks. Other fighters move around weight classes all the time to prove they're the best. She just wants no piece of Cyborg.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) The first 3v3 OT happened last night. Wow. I think that very few games will end up going to a shootout this year. Hell, most these OT periods will probably be over in 1-2 minutes. These guys are just too f***ing good when they've got open ice to work on.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) I don't think she thinks she can take on men. I know she's on record saying she'd never fight a transvestite so I doubt she'd fight a man. That's other people saying that. She's fighting all her top contenders too. Just none of them are close to her. Direct quote. "Floyd is one of the best boxers of all time. He would definitely beat me in a boxing match," Rousey said. "I unfortunately don't get into 'matches.' I fight for a living. In a no-rules fight, I believe I can beat anyone on the planet…that's my honest answer."

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) You act like she's Chyna or something. She's really neither of the above. I find her attractive. She seems cool as hell as well. I think she comes off as completely full of herself and I can't stand her. What kind of complete narcissist stars in a biopic about themselves when they're just 28 and have only had 12 professional fights? Not to mention the whole I can beat anyone on the planet thing is a little tired. She fights nothing but cream puffs and then thinks she's big billy bad ass and can even beat men up. Don't think so.

Ugh. Everybody says that. I just don't see it. She's decent looking but if she wasn't famous or didn't look good in comparison to the other MMA fighters, I don't think anyone would give her a second glance.
  6. QUOTE (Sockin @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) Good news, I'll take the 22nd draft pick. The Yankees will just lose that pick at 22 and it vanishes. The Sox will get a comp pick at the end of the first round.

This thread is the very definition of a post that belongs in the "catch all" thread.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) I'd say the facts that he got 4+ cortisone shots this year and completely faded since August would support my post. The fact that he pitched through an injury doesn't necessarily mean he is done. He may just need time to recover.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) Do the cops tape everything now? Like the bagel thing. I was wondering what would happen if a cop wanted to raise money and SAID you went through a stop sign when you stopped completely. If you go to court, they just believe the cop and you are out the cash? Or is it taped and they see if you rolled the stop or not? Greg, just pay the damn ticket and quit trying to look for a loop hole out of it. Incidents like this are why this country has really gone off the rails. It's like I've been saying, in 20 years it will be a whole different America. People are going to be scared to go anywhere. I mean now it's dipping down to guys running through stop signs thinking they're above the law. I always think of the parents (assuming they are good ones). So mom gives birth to a boy one day at the hospital. Can you imagine if you could look into the future and told her, you're boy will one day run a stop sign. She'd have told you you were insane.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) He's gassed. His arm can't take it anymore. Thanks for the update Dr. Abreu. What did Buehrle say when you gave him this diagnosis?
  11. QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Shuck is a better defender than either Melky or Avi. But my whole point was to keep LaRoche out of the lineup completely. With him in, it's like have 8 in the lineup. But Shuck only played OF occasionally (96 games) and hit in 79 games. Ventura and Co. has to manage with the roster they have. So, as you said, put Shuck in and have Melky DH just as long as LaRoche gets splinters in his @@@@ . Against RHP, LaRoche had a .697 OPS with 12 HRs and 37 RBIs. Shuck had a .694 OPS with O HRs and 14 RBIs. How exactly would replacing LaRoche's bat with Shucks help anything?
  12. QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) You all missed my point so for the last time I will say it again. I never, and I mean never, said Shuck should be the full time DH. But my point was since LaRoche was an automatic out, why not try to shake things up by having Shuck try it. Yes, I know he is a decent OF but for those days he isn't, why not try him in the DH spot. After all, what could happen? The Sox could lose more games and drop to 5th place? So what, they get better draft picks. Now I am done with your assessments since none of us would have known the outcome. Everyone is a freakin genius in hindsight. Time to fact check QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 05:26 AM) Dick, Your LaRoche stats fail to state an obvious point. In 2014, he struck out 21% of the time. In 2015, it was 33%. At some point during any season, a player who cannot hit simply needs to be kept out of the lineup until they can figure out how to hit, or to at least have better contact. LaRoche left so many men on base this past season, he cost the Sox runs. His QAB was so incredibly low he was pretty much an automatic out, especially with 2 strikes. A manager's job is to win games and nothing else. Putting LaRoche's needs above the team's most likely cost them runs and perhaps some wins. There's that pesky WAR factor again. If I were Ventura, I would see what happens to him in Spring Training. If it's the same, I would say eat the salary and get someone else. Shuck only struck out 11% of the time, so why not let him DH? They are both lefties. Why is this so hard for Ventura to figure out? LaRoche is the everday DH. If you replace him with Shuck that would make Shuck an everday player. QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 07:18 AM) Dick, I didn't say play Shuck everyday. Put him into the full time DH slot. All his numbers are better. What do the words "full time DH" mean to you? I'm pretty sure most people would take that as, you know, full time. You're still missing everybody else's point so I will say it one more time. If you are taking LaRoche out of the lineup to play Shuck, whether it be full time or one game, you would not play Shuck as the DH. You would play him in the OF and let Melky or Avi DH. Shuck is a better OF therefore it would make more sense to have him in the outfield than a worse defender.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) He gets what any other guy with his numbers would get first year arb eligible. What I am not sure of, is the cut. I believe they couldn't cut his salary any more than 20% from the previous year, but if they are paying him $11 million or $1 million, his arb number, assuming it would be at least $11 million if he was making $1 million, would be the same if he was making $11 million. I'm pretty sure that number is correct. So if Abreu's salary is $11 million in 2016 the Sox would have to offer just under $9 million.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) How does it work then? This is my understanding of it. It's more concrete to me on guys coming up through a system and going through the process as opposed to coming over at a later age. If Abreu opts out his arbitration process will be no different than any other player.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) What does he make next season? Because the arbitration raise would be on-top of that. Next years salary has nothing to do with his arbitration other than setting the minimum the Sox can offer. If he opts out after next year his 17,18 & 19 guaranteed salaries go away and he is at the mercy of an arbitrator unless he agrees to a new deal with the Sox.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) And Abreu can opt out after next year and go through arbitration his remaining 3 years so he will likely get more than what he's signed for. Changing his agent this year bodes well that he will do that. I doubt he opts out after next year. His salary that year is $12.1 million with another $26.8 million guaranteed the following two years. The current record for a first year arbitration eligible player is $10 million by Ryan Howard in 2008 and he had already won an MVP. Abreu would probably break that record but not by much. Would it really be worth risking $26 million in guaranteed salaries to have a chance to gain a couple more million in 2017? I don't think so. Say he goes out and has a career ending injury in 2017. That Sox non tender him the next year and he just forfeited that $26 million. I think if he has another good 2016 and 2017 he will opt out after 2017. The risk/reward is a little more worth it to him at that time.
  17. QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) But he doesn't play OF every day so put him in the DH when he's not. You're not getting it. If Shuck was going to be in the lineup everyday, which he's not, he wouldn't be at DH. He would play in the outfield and one of Melky or Avi would DH. Playing Shuck at DH eliminates the ability to use him as a defensive substitute late in games.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 09:58 PM) How's is that inconclusive? Puck was in net and then you blew the whistle. Is it just me or does it seem like the Hawks have been screwed on very similar plays an inordinate amount of times the last couple years?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Reminds me of a few of our Presidential candidates... Lol. Maybe he should run for office.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Yes, but the perception now is the new Buehrle is done. He's not even on the playoff roster which is a total slap in the face. I hope the Royals don't give him that deal. I'd hate to see him mow down our lousy lineup 4-6 times a year. If he's done he's not getting anything. If he can prove he's healthy he'll get a good deal. He's not on the ALDS roster but we'll see what happens if they make it to the ALCS. In the ALDS you only need 3 starters and right now he's there 4th or 5th. Is it possible for you to enter a single conversation without bringing the Royals up? It's clear that you're obsessed with them. You could have said the Tigers, Twins or Indians but of course you chose the Royals. I'm sure there is a good Royals message board you can go to if you want to talk about your favorite team all the time.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Why dont you make stats fit your argument that it is less safe? Greg doesn't believe in stats. Greg has his narrative and he's sticking to it. No amount of information could ever make him realize he is wrong.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) i really like to see how line 2 and line 3 do in this game. I'd really like to see how lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 do in this game.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) I said good free agent contracts. The big deals. Oh so you mean like the $73 million the Angels ate to get rid of Josh Hamilton? Is that a big enough deal?
  24. QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) For all those that think Shuck should definately NOT BE A FULL TIME DH, here are his stats. Although he has not been a full timer, his stats speak volumes about whether he should have been over LaRoche. Especially when the Sox were still in the wild card race and LaRoche could not hit a stationary ball much less a pitched one. You're completely ignoring the fact that as a part time player, Shuck was only played in favorable matchups. Despite that fact he managed an OPS that was not significantly better than LaRoche's and was lower than LaRoche's versus right handed pitchers.
