QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) Crawford was incredible last night. And f*** the refs for screwing us out of another goal That situation sucked but I'm not real sure how you figure the refs are to blame.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 06:52 PM) Remember Hee Seop Choi? Not sure how he's comparable. He signed with the Cubs at like 19 and came up through their system. Sure he was highly regarded and kind of fizzled out but it's a lot different than a 28 year told that spent a decade playing in Korea.

White Sox mentioned as potential landing spot for Upton

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 11:31 PM) More shocking event in Chicago, Jaromir Jagr scores a goal or Bartolo Colon wins a LCS clincher? It's like I'm a teenager again. Solid win today. The D men are still scary but the top two lines came to play. Kaner is a great match for the Russians and one of these days 19 and 81 will find a line mate to score a goal with, but they are playing well Kind of amazing that Jagr can still be a productive hockey player at 43. Imagine if he hadn't lost the 04-05 season or gone to the KHL for 3 years. He could realistically have 800-825 goals right now.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) I completely disagree. Moving the walls out makes for wider alleys. That's ideal for slap hitters. Sanchez and Saladino aren't gonna hit many Homers anyway. You're outfielders just play in on slap hitters taking any additional alley space away. Slap hitters are rarely going to hit it over their heads. Wider alleys are more beneficial to power hitters that have the ability to hit to the alleys.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) Did the Cubs really choke? The Mets were just better. You can be disappointed that your season came to an end and be damn proud of what they accomplished as well and I think Cubs fans have that right. Define choke? For a 97 win team with the 3rd best record in baseball they put on an absolutely pathetic display in all facets of the game. The Mets aren't good enough to make a 97 win team all of the sudden look like a bunch of little leaguers.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) I've brought this up too! Good to hear I'm not the only one with this crazy idea. Sure when we had Thomas, Mags, Carlos Lee, Valentine, etc. and all we did was mash, moving the wall in made sense. I don't know the politics of moving the wall. Not sure if there is a whole approval process or you can do it at will, but if it's the latter it'd be smart to play to our strengths. With Sale, Q and Rodon? Pitching is our strength. We have no real power to speak of. So push back the wall a few feet. (Maybe it doesnt make sense with Garcia and Melky as our OF -- but with a Trayce, Eaton, Heyward, Fowler, Cespedes, etc.?? I think you've got this backwards. Moving the wall back would just shine more light on our glaring offensive weaknesses. Guys like Frank, Maggs and Carlos Lee didn't need the short wall. Alexei, Saladino and Sanchez do.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) I don't remember where I saw it but there have been somewhere around 33 teams that have gone down 0-3 in the championship series. IIRC, only 5 made it to game 5, 3 forced game 6 and 1 made it to game 7. Edit: Found this link. Without the evidence behind the claim, if somebody had told me that only 5 out of 33 teams had even gotten to a game 5 after being down 3-0 I don't think I would have believed them. Could the Cubs come back? Of course, but it is an extremely monumental task.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) I have managed to not get bothered by any cubs fans in any place i have been, all year long and all playoffs long. weird I have the extreme misfortune of working in Eastern Iowa. I would put the percentage of Cubs fans here around 60-70% with the rest spread out mostly amongst the Brewers, Cardinals and White Sox. The Cubs fans I have to deal with on a regular basis have been unbearable all year long. I really have nothing against the Cubs and couldn't give a s*** less how they do if it weren't for their fans.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) I say with Maddon the Sox would have been a .500 team. No. I think a good manager vs a bad manager is 3-4 wins tops. Remember an all star player is considered ~5 wins above replacement. No way a manager is more valuable than an all star player. Their salaries alone tell you teams don't value them that high. Otherwise they would be paid better than bench players.

I think I like Wanne's better but Thompson hasn't earned his place up there yet. Swapping him for Eaton would be the way I go. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) He is actually a pretty good defender. GreenSox never lets the truth get in the way of a good argument. -
QUOTE (BigFinn @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) When we think about how the Cardinals "don't rebuild, they just reload," how much of that reload is based on great scouting and player development and how much of it is based on PEDs? In the early 2000's, the Sox played clean while the rest of the league played dirty. Then MLB decided to clean up its act, and, next thing you know, the White Sox are World Series champs. Case in point, Yadier Molina was supposedly out for the NLDS, and yet he started games 1, 2, and 3. I find that fishy. I don't mind if the Sox are losing, if they are losing clean and the other teams are cheating. I would be seriously pissed if our guys are cheating, too, and still losing! It's easy to become cynical and say that everybody cheats, but Herm Schneider rules that clubhouse with an iron fist. I think he would know if a player is cheating, and I think he would "encourage" the club to get rid of him - see Swisher, Nick. There's really know way to know how clean the Sox actually were. I mean in 2001 the Sox had the biggest steroid user in the history of the game on the roster. Jim Parque was a big part of the 2000 pitching staff and he later tested positive for PEDs. Pablo Ozuna off the 2005 WS team also later tested positive. Who knows if those guys were using with the Sox or not. The Sox have never had a major leaguer suspended but that doesn't mean they're clean. They even have three former PED users on the 25 man roster now.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Dan Jennings wasn't terrible. He had one disaster of an outing where he was left out there to take one for the team. In that one outing, he gave up 25% of the ER he gave up for the entire season. That game also included 3 of the 24 walks he gave up for the entire season. His FIP on the season was half a run less than his ERA. This. Dan Jennings was fine. He had nerve problems in his neck and shoulder that led to his poor start. After resting it and coming off the DL he had a 1.35 ERA over 33.1 innings the rest of the way with just 2 earned runs in August and September combined (22.1 IP). He definitely has a place on the team next year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) Interesting post. I have no knowledge so I can't comment. Your comment intrigues me. Are young people really majoring in art and Poly Sci? I mean cmon. Badger might tell us ... are there tons of jobs for young lawyers? What about nurses and doctors? Anybody know? What about architecture and engineering and geology? The article I read said 22-29 year old grads couldn't find work and the over 50s, forgetaboutit. Companies want to keep salaries down, hence are undervaluing the 30-49 crowd. I worked at Wal-Mart when I was in Engineering school. You wouldn't believe how many of my coworkers there had history, chemistry, poli sci, music, art, (none of which wanted to be teachers) etc. degrees. So many people think that just because you have a degree that somebody is going to hire you and pay you a good salary. Go into a strong field, do well in school, work hard and you will find a job. Just don't have a sense of entitlement just because you have a degree.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) I probably worded that wrong. You can't deny an huge majority of Democrats want to "coronate" Hillary cause she's put in her time during her lifetime and "deserves" the honor. Problem is ... didn't equally brazen Bob Dole "deserve" the honor? He didn't get a sniff. I don't think that's necessarily true. The DNC has done a lot to help a Clinton victory, but at least in my circles the majority of the Democrats I know are for Sanders. He really has captured the youth vote amongst Democrats.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) No. You are not. I was reading today that college grads from 22 to 29 are having the hardest time finding jobs as well as people over 50. The American dream is dead. See, the youngsters can't get on with their lives (NO JOBS). The oldsters can't cap their careers, instead they get laid off and their nesteggs evaporate (NO JOBS). Criminal!!! Give me Bernie or Trump to fix this! Or try to fix this. It's all part of the plan. The media comes through for the Obamas and Hillarys of the world when they need to: saying who won debates and the days right before election day. They will be "critical" at times when it doesn't matter, like with 2 years to go in the regimes. But when it's time to come through for the Democrats, oh boy, the liberal media will come through for you! The big reason for this is that they are not finding the jobs that they WANT. There are plenty of jobs out there. The problem is that when kids are in high school everybody says you need to go to college. How many jobs do these young people think are out there for somebody with a political science degree or an art degree? If you graduate college in a strong field the jobs are there.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) So, does CNN get paid by Clinton? Holy crapola, their home page has been a love fest for her all day long. I mean, she did well, but I honestly think O'Malley and maybe Sanders did more positive for themselves than she did. Sanders and O'Malley both did help their campaigns but with the lead Hillary has as long as she doesn't go out and lay an egg she's done well. I don't agree with the notion of many news outlets that she easily won the debate. I personally think Sanders did.

Not stopping at a stop sign? Really police?
lasttriptotulsa replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Now I've seen everything. I was just driving and actually approached that same intersection. So I'm getting ready to stop and another guy in another car at the 4 way stop starts waving me through BEFORE I even stopped. So I had to finish pulling up to the stop sign, stopping, counting 3 seconds then driving through all after he waved me through. He looked PISSED. So folks, Americans basically do not make complete stops at stop lights and I got hosed. I mean I'd venture to say 60 percent of people sort of stop, 40 percent "might" come to complete stops. I laughed as the guy waved me through knowing I still had a LOT of driving work to do before I could procede. You better just lock yourself up in your home and close all the blinds and curtains. The outside world is obviously way too dangerous of a place for you. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) while i like what you are saying, i will go this route, step 1 hire a professional, experience president / gm with a track record of success. step 2 let him convince the owners to loosen their purse strings....... Would you get off of this already? The White Sox spending is not the problem. They gave out $122.8 million in new contracts last offseason and somehow that's not enough for you? And not to mention that the majority of their core is locked up for at least the next 4 years. They had the 16th highest team salary in baseball despite being 26th in attendance. Do you really want the Sox to give out a contract like Scherzer got in which the Nationals are going to be paying him $15 million annually for 7 years after he leaves the team?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Exactly. People, if you like Hilly fine, but she is by all accounts a very mean person, very elitist person who wants the election because it's her turn. The Saturday Night Live impression of her is very accurate. "Let me lead!" You call her out for this yet you support Trump? Talk about being a hypocrite.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) Well, disagree on the email mess. It shows incredibly poor judgment, an opinion Dems and Repubs hold. I can agree that it's played out at this point, but it's still an issue to talk about when you're debating why she's not a good fit for President and you are. You don't win campaigns by being the "good guy," especially when the person who should be attacked/criticized is the favorite that everyone knows. Sanders would rather lose the election than lose his integrity. That is why I think it was a good move on his part last night. He just goes to show that he is 100% authentic and that can sway a lot of people's opinions. He really wasn't saying that the whole Hillary email thing should be forgotten, he is just saying that there are much bigger fish to fry and that the countries attention is better off suited somewhere else.

I think there has been some questionable umpiring but not as bad as the TBS box makes it look. It seems like every pitch that is maybe an inch or two off the plate looks like it's 6-8 inches off according to their box. It's almost as if it showing where the catcher catches it as opposed to where it actually crosses the plate.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) I've been making a point to look at the other drivers since our roads have a lotta stop signs and I'm tellin u, they appear flustered n miffed that I'm stopping completely. As far as the other posts, remember I am admitting guilt. I am guilty. I just figured at 1 a.m. with a nice record of no tickets the past year or two I'd deserve a little warning. I'm sort of accusing the cop of wanting to raise $140 for city coffers and get a pat on the back for obtaining such money for the city, cause I think that's true. You keep saying 1 AM. Everyone knows that is the WORST time to break a law. A cop is going to pull you over 100% of the time he sees ou breaking a law then. Once he does its a toss up to whether or not you get a ticket. You're clearly in the wrong. Quit whining and pay the ticket. -
