QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:07 AM) He's the best shortstop in baseball, a superstar, in his prime, on both sides of the ball, with a market-rate contract, putting up a >800 OPS in what's considered a "down season." Yes, there are warts like with anyone else, but you're missing the forest for the trees if you pass on him. I would definitely have taken him and his full contract. It's really not Tulo's production that's ever in question. The question is whether he can stay on the field or not and that's been a big issue for the majority of his career. He's only managed to reach 125 games played in 5 of his 9 full seasons (assuming he gets there this year).

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) that option is sport start anyone is really the sox manager's option. i just think EJ needs to be there for immediate use. just in case..... for the semantic dispute of a 6-man rotation is having a 6th man for a pitching duties,..... doesn't that mean the same as a sport starter???? it has a wide definition of a description that is used. No saying a "6 man rotation" implies 6 starters getting equal amounts of starts more or less. Using a spot starter occasionally is using a 5 man rotation in which that 5th starter could be one of a couple different pitchers.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) I thought this was bigger initially but Latos has been pretty pedestrian to bad this year and Morse has been awful. Yea it's definitely bigger in name that it will be in impact.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) you and others may very well be right. but we are fans...... we are not the pro's nor are we coop and his idea of how to handle the pitching staff. many are making a big assumption. i rather error on the side of pitchers safety instead of overusing him. it doen't hurt to have another option in the rotation, for immediate use. Coop is well known to be more aggressive than conservative. You're right, it doesn't hurt to have another option, but if EJ comes up, that option to spot start should be Danks after a move to the bullpen. There is a big difference is using a spot starter and using a 6 man rotation like you advocated earlier.

LaRoche to sit out first two BOS games

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) His "pride" comment was BS and disappoints me. Dude you couldn't hit water if you fell out of a boat. So, you're sat and you're pride is hurt? Get the f*** over yourself. This isn't little league. Yea, you completely took his quote the wrong way. -
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) I don't think his numbers this year is an accurate window to how good he really is. It's clear he's being chased out and not very well liked in LA. A change of scenery is exactly what this guy needs. I think if he is traded whoever gets him gets a guy with a chip on his shoulder. I think he'll have an impact like Manny did when traded to the Dodgers. As far as Q for Puig, I was all for it a few days ago however losing Q impacts our chances of making a run more than adding Puig. I would love to add him just not sure if Q is something I would part with. I'm not against picking up Puig. The guy is uber talented and maybe a change of scenery is what he needs. What I am against is trading a 5 fWAR pitcher with 5 years of team control left at cheap salary to do so.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) Does that include his minor league innings? He threw just 10 innings in the minors and has thrown 77 through 13 starts and 16 games overall for an average of around 5 1/3 per start. He should have roughly 12 starts left. If he keeps that average the rest the season he would end up at 151. If you bump it up to 6 innings he would end up at 159.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) I want Puig. If that means absolutely have to move Quintana for him, then so be it. We need an impact bat in the worst way. That's not Puig this year. Just a .249/.323/.416 slash overall and an anemic .187/.257/.341 over his last 35 games.
-
No way I'd give up Quintana for Puig. Puig has gotten worse every year and has the maturity of a 10 year old.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) the point is, while we the fans has no knowledge of rodon pitching restrictions, esp in the amount, and well danks is danks. he can provide an alternative in the rotation. if the urgency is to make the most, then why not go on the 4 man rotation. Rodon is only on pace for around 160 innings. He should not be really be too restricted the rest of the way. If we make the playoffs, we have an incredibly strong front 3 and a 4th starter isn't really needed in the playoffs.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) I never get the complaints about the hall of fame voting process. At the end of the day, it's BY FAR the most prestigious and selective hall of fame. The voting has kept it that way. Complain all you want but it's worked. It is the most exclusive but I still think the voting does a fairly poor job. I really need some of these voters to explain to me how John Smoltz is a 1st ballot guy while Mike Mussina can't get 25% of the vote.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) in lieu of no other injuries, i would bring up EJ as a #6 sp.... go with a 6 man rotation. We're battling for a playoff spot and you want to take 8 or so starts away from Sale, Samardzija, Quintana and Rodon and give them to Erik Johnson? Why? If Johnson enters the starting rotation, it's either because Danks was moved out of it or somebody got hurt.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) What are going to do when Rodon hits his innings? He's on pace for around 160 innings. That should be about right where they want him. It shouldn't become an issue as they've done a decent job managing his innings so far.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Tough to project trading Danks by fans since we don't know all the details of his no-trade clause. But I think it is realiistic to assume Toronto is part of the no-trade. Dodgers may be okay. Cot's says there are 6 teams on his no-trade clause. It list Baltimore, Oakland, Toronto and Washington as 4 of the 6. Doesn't list the other two.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) Here goes my buy and sell idea. Package Avi, Montas and some other prospects for CarGo. He's played 88 games and would be the impact bat we could possibly get without giving up Anderson. CarGo has been fairly healthy this season. I'd bring up Trayce Thompson to platoon the outfield and DH with CarGo to give him his off days in the field. I'll probably be tarred and feathered for this idea but here it is. I wouldn't trade pen arms. We need them. I'd keep Shark and waive LaRoche and Bonafacio. Ofcoutse that's me spending their money. If they waived LaRoche, they would have to eat $15-$16 million. Zero chance that happens.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) if you want to think so. Calling someone vanilla has NOTHING to do with race. That's just idiotic to even pretend that it does.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Does Larry King have any connections with the Dodgers front office? Seems pretty randpm to toss out the Sox as a trade partner. Not sure, but at one point I believe he was part of an ownership group that attempted to buy the Dodgers.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) Q is headed South IMO. Just look at his record. He is a mediocre big league starter, which is why he won't get much in a trade. Rodon still walks too many, too often behind in the count....... That right there basically tells me that you have no idea what you are talking about. His FIP this year is 3.25. 18% better than league average. In all 9 of his losses the team has scored 0 or 1 runs. In 7 of those Quintana gave up 3 or less runs. It's not his fault that the Sox play horrible defense and have one of the worst offenses in the league. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:57 AM) Our crime rates have actually been falling steadily for a couple of decades This. It's the combination of the internet and 24 hour news channels that makes it seem like it's continually getting worse.

There was another Frank Thomas one in 2014.

Last night Mark Buehrle set a Blue Jays record with his 9th straight start of 6+ innings pitched allowing 2 or less earned runs. Since the beginning of June he is 5-1, 1.52 ERA, .938 WHIP, 5.7 K/BB. He hasn't walked a batter since June 26, a span of 29 1/3 IP. He's putting together a pretty nice season. 11-5, 3.23 ERA, 1.161 WHIP, 3.20 K/BB. If he decides to keep pitching, he could be setting himself for a pretty nice contract this offseason.

Chris Sale is the most bestest pitcher evar!

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) That's the way it should be. With his talent, age and contract a team would need to send an entire infield of MLB ready prospects/young players for him. No one is totally untouchable. Like JR has said in the past, he's only ever had one player who was untouchable and he played basketball. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) I dont hope this guy rots in our penitentiary system for 60 years. Nobody should have their tax dollars go to supporting this low life They claim it costs way more to execute someone than it does to imprison them for life. Hopefully he just gets a life sentence and an another inmate pulls a Chris Scarver on him.

QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 06:49 PM) I heard both the radio guys (Ed and Darrin) and TV guys (Ken and Steve) are employed by the White Sox. They are not employed by the TV stations. IMO Aaron Rowand isn't a good candidate. Aaron seems like a nice guy, but he did not sound like the best communicator when he was filling in for Steve Stone earlier this season. Is Frank working for Comcast SportsNet in 2015? I don't recall watching him this year on any pre-game or post-game shows. . Frank works for Fox Sports now.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) I'd be OK with all of this if the Sox got reprimanded or fined over this issue. And this exhibition game would be considered way more than that if the Sox made the WS. We'd get the first two games in the great city of Chicago not have to wait. This is brilliant. Penalize a team for not wanting the ace to play in a meaningless exhibition game. Great idea Greg. Why didn't you throw your name into the hat when they were looking for a new commissioner?
