July 15, 201510 yr Given that the Sox have been around for over 100 years, that's quite the embarrassing list.
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) Given that the Sox have been around for over 100 years, that's quite the embarrassing list. Is this list limited to post 1950 guys?
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) Is this list limited to post 1950 guys? Even then it's not close. Aparicio, Fox, Pierce ....... I'm one of Harold's biggest fans but he is not in the top 4, neither is Konerko. Were pitchers not included? Edited July 15, 201510 yr by ptatc
July 15, 201510 yr Thomas, Walsh, Lyons, Appling Just because people weren't there for the past doesn't mean it should be ignored.
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Thomas, Walsh, Lyons, Appling Just because people weren't there for the past doesn't mean it should be ignored. Swap Lyons for Collins and thats my list as well.
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 09:35 PM) Swap Lyons for Collins and thats my list as well. Debated that, but Lyons gets in for the sheer length that he pitched for them.

You've got Thomas, a Hall of Famer. Baines, who was pretty damn good with 2,866 hits, Konerko the Sox all time career home run leader and Minoso, who it goes without saying is the face of our franchise. I like the list. I'm sure the old, old timers who got overlooked would tip their caps to these four as well. Edited July 15, 201510 yr by greg775

July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 06:41 AM) I'm not really sure who the face of the Sox is, but I doubt many would say Minoso. He's Mr. White Sox. He was our treasure ever since he was playing until his death. I think the four who made it are deserving for reasons I listed. How can you argue with a Hall of Famer, Mr. Near 3000 hits; Mr Home Run King and Minnie? Again no offense to the old timers nobody but Sox historian zealots like us have heard of, but I like the more modern foursome that was selected.

Walsh, Lyons and Appling should be on some oldtimers list ballot. No offense but nobody besides Sox fanatics like most of us have ever heard of those guys. We did win a WS in 2005.

I'm sure the old, old timers who got overlooked would tip their caps to these four as well. Konerko is NOT the White Sox all time home run leader. When you look at some of the players the White Sox have had, Konerko and Baines do not belong on this list. Here's a list of the White Sox all time fWAR leaders just to show how far down Baines and Konerko are. There are 10 Hall of Famers ahead of them. How again are they amongst the 4 best players this franchise has had? 1. Luke Appling - 72.7 (HOF) 2. Frank Thomas - 68.1 (HOF) 3. Eddie Collins - 64.6 (HOF) 4. Red Faber - 54.7 (HOF) 5. Ted Lyons - 54.6 (HOF) 6. Billy Pierce - 51.0 7. Ed Walsh - 49.2 (HOF) 8. Nellie Fox - 43.2 (HOF) 9. Minnie Minoso - 41.8 10. Mark Buehrle - 40.1 11. Robin Ventura - 39.2 12. Eddie Cicotte - 38.6 13. Wilbur Wood - 36.6 14. Fielder Jones - 32.3 15. Sherm Lollar - 32.1 16. George Davis - 32.0 (HOF) 17. Luis Aparicio - 32.0 (HOF) 18. Carlton Fisk - 30.1 (HOF) 19. Thornton Lee - 27.7 20. Joe Horlen - 27.3 21. Joe Jackson - 27.0 22. Gary Peters - 26.6 23. Jack McDowell - 26.1 24. Tommy John - 25.1 25. Doc White - 25.0 26. Harold Baines - 24.5 27. Willie Kamm - 23.7 28. Paul Konerko - 23.6

You should only be taking into account their White Sox careers otherwise you open up a huge can of worms by making people like Griffey, Allen and a whole slew of others qualify. So let's get his name right and call him "Mr. 1773 Hits".
July 15, 201510 yr Is this list limited to post 1950 guys? No, but it was voted on almost entirely by people who have only been alive since 1950. This is the kind of stupid list you get when you let fans vote. Harold and Paule are two of my absolute favorite players but neither are nowhere near deserving of this.
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:51 AM) Walsh, Lyons and Appling should be on some oldtimers list ballot. No offense but nobody besides Sox fanatics like most of us have ever heard of those guys. We did win a WS in 2005. Or people who have ever bothered to look at retired numbers, aside from Walsh and he's the best pitcher in team history.
July 15, 201510 yr The White Sox have about a dozen Hall of Famers that spent a good chunk of their career with the team. I love Harold and Paulie, but they absolutely do not belong there.
July 15, 201510 yr Joe Jackson needs more love. Probably the best pure hitter this franchise has ever seen.
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) It turned out to be Thomas, Minoso, Baines, and Konerko. Okay then This is ridiculous .... Baines, Konerko and Minoso shouldn't have even been considered.
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) This is ridiculous .... Baines, Konerko and Minoso shouldn't have even been considered. Minnie was the most popular player for a very long time. Most people older than 60 adored Minnie growing up.
July 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) This is ridiculous .... Baines, Konerko and Minoso shouldn't have even been considered. Disagree strongly on Minnie, who should be in the HOF and should be considered for this, but agree on the other two.
July 15, 201510 yr Why should Konerko not even be considered? He was the face of the franchise for 15+ years and is 2nd to Thomas in almost all the important offensive categories in White Sox history.
July 16, 201510 yr QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) Why should Konerko not even be considered? He was the face of the franchise for 15+ years and is 2nd to Thomas in almost all the important offensive categories in White Sox history. Paul Konerko was the face of the franchise in 2000?
July 16, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) This is ridiculous .... Baines, Konerko and Minoso shouldn't have even been considered. Minoso was an extremely popular player and his importance to the game is immeasurable. He qualifies as a face of the franchise. The other 2 I agree on.
